firefighters and homeowners jump into action tonight as flames spread up the hills across the county. tonight, we learned this fire may have been deliberately set. good evening everyone, i'm heatherrer holmes. >> a few dozen homes were erupted. the fire appeared this afternoon on the east side of martinez near the border of pleasantville. we are live in the neighborhood of what made the difference for

firefighters. deborah? >> reporter: ken wayne, all it took was a firebug as all the ingredients were there. this fire was no accident. police say a woman high on drugs was seen using a lighter to ignite the grass and that she thought was the first officers to arrive. what she unleashed required a 10-engine response and mutual aid almost immediately. >> they were making a good run. >> reporter: more than 20 homes are nestled around this 50-acre hill. >> we're like okay that's it, we're going. >> reporter: they packed their cars in a hurry as the fire seemed to be blowing up. >> it's terrifying. i mean you hear the heat and the crackling of the fire, the ashes that are blowing over. >> the computers, some medications. it's amazing what will go through your minds as they had

relievedresidents breaking out champagne. she is identified as the 48- year-old of concord. reporting live in martinez, ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters were called to another fire, only five miles away as you could see the first fire on the top of the screen and the second fire near the bottom of your screen. they said that the second fire was contained around 7:00 only burning a few acres. live in the boston marathon bombings, where it appeared to pay off. officials are reporting just a handful of their problems at the event. and after the celebrations that they are investigating a serious incident in which a man took a frightening fall from an

apartment building. police say that the man suffered life threatening injuries when he fell several stories from the roof of the building near the panhandle of golden gate park. >> reporter: this house party in san francisco ended in tears this afternoon. those attending were set weeping on the sidewalk after their 20-year-old friend had a fatal fall. >> one man accidentally fell from the roof. fell about three to four stories down to the sidewalk. and he was very seriously injured. >> reporter: police suspect that alcohol played a role in the incident. race participants are now banned from drinking alcohol. but the officers say booze is a big part of the neighborhood parties that take place along the roof. >> a lot of drinking today after the race itself finished. we had a big police presence. >> reporter: we had a number of parties closed down. house parties, street parties. >> reporter: and made several

few unattended bag, including one near the start line, but found nothing suspicious. almost 30,000 runners participated in today's big race. >> yeah! >> reporter: an endlessly of racers hit the 7.5 mile race course. one of the youngest elite racers took first place for men. the 21-year-old of ethiopia finished in just 35 minutes and 1 second. now for the women, the woman took the prize. of course any costumes for runners and walkers did not seem to care, but just how long it took them to find the finish line. once they all cleared the course, the clean up job began as it was a lot of races. the people that helped with the clean up before say that it was not as bad as in years past. in fact most of the race will not go to races because it is recyclable. today's race was not all about

fun though, but also about honoring those affected in bostons. coming up in 25 minutes, the tribute to the boston marathon bombings. people want to know who is responsible for killing one man early morning. eric reports that it happened in an area where they have been trying a new approach in fighting crime. the blown out windows and the bullet holes that appear to come from the inside out of the blue honda are evidence of the violent confrontation about an hour before they came up in oakland. >> there is a series of a good 15 shots here at first. >> reporter: the shooting happened right outside the window on 92nd avenue and international boulevard. while his children took cover, he and his wife tried to help two men in the car who had been shot. >> i mean just hang in there, man. i'm like we are just looking for people to call 911.

and west streets around 6:30 p.m. the investigators have not offered any other details about what happened, but a woman at the scene identified herself as the victim's cousins, saying she lives with him. the victim was 19 and says that she thought he was playing with a gun at a friend's house. sheriff officials are investigating the weekend shooting death of a 10-year-old girl. around 10:30 last night two gunmen opened fire in the community of north highlands, killing the girl and wounding her parents. the sheriff department spokesman said that the men walked up into the front door and started shooting, firing at least a dozen rounds. >> we think that this home was specifically targeted. the family inside, they were specifically targeted. >> and the girls parents are expected to survive their injuries. this shooting was not random as they have yet to release any information about a possible motive. the mother of the missing

teenager who disappeared three days ago is calling on the public tonight to help find her son. police say the 17-year-old brian daniel hall left home around 11:30 on thursday morning. he is described as 5-10 about 120 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. you can see a picture of him there. the phone has been shut off and he's considered a runaway. the teen may be upset about a fight he had with his father who lives in washington and about a recent cent breakup. they are searching to make sure that everyone will escape that two-alarm fire, which started shortly after 1:30 this morning near velencia street. five people were left homeless by the fire as it appears that the fire started at a restaurant called we be sushi, but no official word of the cause. a small group of the farm activists that have reoccupied a plot of land in albany shared a sunset meal tonight as they returned to the track this

weekend. and to replant the cross of the university plows under them last week. one protester said that other than right now there are no plans to spend the night as they want that land to be used as an urban farm instead of the senior housing project and market expected for this side. uc berkeley officials have warned the protesters that they are trespassing and continue to monitor the situation. the largest ever, the power ball jackpot is going to a ticketholder in florida as it will be worth more than $590 million. but there are two lucky winners winners including here in the bay area. two tickets with five of the matching numbers were purchased at 7-elevens in san jose. they are each worth about $2.3 million. the clerk at the san jose store at the expressway talked about a customer's reaction when he found out he was a winner. >> i think that he made a beacon and i put it in the machine. when i heard the ticket, i said you're a winner. he said yes.

the cremated remains of the 35 bay area military veterans are set to arrive at their final resting place tomorrow. the ashes of the veterans have been at the memorial park for as long as 52 years, unclaimed by the family or the friends. a volunteer from the recovery group was missing in america and they researched the remains, finding that they were eligible for burial in a national cemetery. plans call for the remains to be taken from monday at the national cemetery. and with the military honors. tonight they are looking into a small plane crash of the sierra foothills that killed a man from lake county. that plane went down around 9:15 this morning last night. it's about 35 miles northeast of sacramento. and in all the fire department spokesman said that they were trying to land before the crash as they were alerted to the wreck after the emergency beacon on board the aircraft started sending out a signal. police are looking for the

person that shot a teenager twice in a drive-by shooting. officers say that the 17-year- old was shot twice in the foot and expected to survive. and las vegas police announced two arrests in the case of the teenage boy killed for his ipad. which comes just after yesterday's vigil for the 15- year-old who died on thursday. police say that they stopped, trying to grab the ipad who would not let go. the teen was dragged down the streets, eventually falling underneath the vehicle. two men, an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old were arrested on charges, including murder and robbery. and now for the continuing coverage of the irs scandal. a top white house advisor said today that president obama is taking steps to address the issue. now earlier this month they admitted that they delayed the processing of the tax exempt status application of the conservative groups with the tea parties and other related

terms of their names. >> that's why that the president has asked for the resignation of the -- recognition of the acting irs service members. and asking them to go in as the acting commissioner to make sure that it never happens again. those who did were held accountable. >> the president had no prior knowledge that the irs was targeting the conservative groups until they learned about the ongoing investigation. and republicans, they are accusing the president of using the irs to attack the political enemies. those overseeing the construction of the bay bridge are disputing a new report that claims they used faulty data and the wrong tests when the steel tendons used in the skyway portion of the new bridge. the steel tendons would support that skyway. in 2006, they raised concerns that the steel was uncovered and corroding. they tested the tendons, determining that the corrosion was insignificant. however they now say that their report was based on the faulty
