ten women and a fire. deborah villalon is live where she talked with one of the survivors. >> reporter: she is the one they were all gathered for. seven elderly women and three care givers in this limo that caught fire. on the street you can still see the scorch mark left behind. >> a memorable birthday. now i have all this business to remember, bad enough i'm 90 years old. >> reporter: she had her friends and care givers packed into this limo headed to her party at her daughter's house. they are grateful it wasn't moving or on the freeway but idling on the curb where the driver started shouting, smoke, get out. >> there was smoke and ladies were coming out of the back of the car. and i was telling them, hurry up, hurry up and i helped one lady out because she uses a

walker -pl . as i was moving down the cul-de-sac. flames from the area came from a 1/3 of the car. >> reporter: that fire similar to the one that broke out on the golden gate bridge. and afterward, they went on to celebrate elane's birthday. >> no limo for me ever. >> reporter: they went by private car on to the party leaving behind handbags, even birthday cards scorched by the fire. everyone marveling at their luck. walnut creek police plan to follow up and they've also alerted the chp about this close call. reporting live in rosmore,

deborah villalon, ktvu news. today's fire comes a little more than a month after that deadly limo fire that claimed the lives of five women. that fire broke out on may 4th on the san mateo bridge. the driver of the lincoln town car limo was able to pull over and he and four other women managed to escape. the five women who died were trapped inside that burning car. the highway patrol has not yet finished their investigation into that accident. police in pleasanton are investigating deadly accident involving two bicyclists and teenage driver. the 18-year-old struck the husband and wife as they drove their bike. new at 10:00 tonight, jade hernandez in pleasanton where she spoke to investigators who told her as of now that young driver is not facing charges in this crash. >> reporter: the couple not from pleasanton was riding

through an upscale suburban area. >> i just couldn't believe that she could hear that bang all the way on the other side of our development here. >> reporter: dave caldwell's wife heard the crash but did not know -- the drive's 2004 dodge caliber continued a bit farther sheering off a light pole and no parking sign. the couple wasn't from the area but the driver is. the teenage driver waited for police to arrive. >> an off duty doctor, nurse and emt happened upon scene just before ems got there and attempted life saving efforts. >> reporter: the 50-year-old's wife who was wearing a helmet died where she was thrown from the accident. the driver hurt his leg and was taken to the hospital but later released. >> there's a lot of bicyclists on this road right here. they come whizzing through here

a lot. >> reporter: michael swizer who walked his family across the street agrees. >> this is a very popular road for bicyclists. >> sharing the road is not working all the time, huh. >> reporter: the driver was interviewed by police and released for now. we're live at pleasanton police headquarters tonight. the special operations unit here has yet to determine if speed or drugs played a factor in this deadly accident. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. the roll over crash in south san francisco left one person dead. the car overturned and landed off the freeway in the area of cerra and west bureau boulevard. when officers arrived they say that car was already in flames. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. a winter with little rain and several days of high temperatures have firefighters on alert with much of the bay area very dry. firefighters in berkeley told

ktvu the area is drier than usual at this time of year with grasses turning brown sooner than normal. in addition they say even when it cools down the winds in berkeley can spread flames quickly. >> calfire fighters also on alert. they tweeted this photo of a firefighters flame at the ready in grass valley. a red flag warning remaining in effect for parts of california including grass valley. while there was a cooldown in the bay area today. the fire danger still a concern tonight. >> our meteorologist mark tamayo joining us now to explain why. >> tonight we're tracking thunderstorms and potential lightning strikes. as a result red flag fire warnings posted out toward lake county and for a good portion of northern and eastern california. especially out toward the sierra. that's the place right now until 5:00 monday morning. this is the loop over the past few hours. few showers most of them not reaching the ground. lightning strikes detected. closing in on modesto and the

one had the young child. the fresno bee reports a man from the bay area who was visiting friends across the street was one of the first person on the scene that tried to perform cpr on the toddler. they are calling the death a tragic accident. we have new developments in that mass shooting at santa monica college. a fifth victim has died from her injuries. marcela franco was on an suv. he was a long time employee of the college. police identified the suspected gunman as 23-year-old john swaree. a total of six people died in that shooting rampage including the shooter. meantime students and friends gathered to remember those killed in the shootings. the chief of campus police say he is beefing up patrols starting tomorrow morning. he also says counseling will be available for anyone who needs it tomorrow and throughout the week.

a vigil is planned for tomorrow on campus. sunny vale police are investigating that city's first homicide of the year. as ktvu's alex sadvige reports, a man was shot and killed outside of a hip hop club. >> reporter: this shooting around 1:00 this morning sent people inside running for cover. >> people rushing in and people kind of hitting the deck kind of thing just like you see in the movies. >> reporter: dean garrett was at this bar watching a coworker perform during a hip hop show that featured artists from around the bay area. he gave us this photo from the event. after the shooting, garrett went outside and told me he saw a man laying on the parking lot. >> it was kind of a fun energizing night and just went tragic in the end. >> reporter: sunny vale police aren't sure what prompted the shooter to start firing. >> some kind of altercation

occurred and resulted in the shooting. >> reporter: police are checking surveillance footage from this strip mall that might show what happened right outside the peacock lounge before the shooting happened. they're talking to people who might have useful information to help solve sunny vale's first homicide of the year. alex sadvige. we're learning more tonight about the man shot by police in windsor after he allegedly stabbed the mother of his son. police say they had forcibly removed 48-year-old irvana morena morales from her home. he posted bail and returned to the woman's home where he was removed again and released. the suspect has been targeting a group of women and the incidents do not follow a pattern. >> the most recent was the fifth of june. >> reporter: the suspect is sometimes on foot, sometimes on a bmx style bike. >> as he approaches women on

the trail usually women by themselves, he's exposing himself to them. he's not saying anything. there's no violence involved. >> investigators worry his behavior could escalate and are warning women to use the buddy system. >> what it's done is it's heightened my awareness so i really need to pay more attention to who's around me. >> reporter: they are telling women to call police to call

police immediately. investigators say the gunman is latino, they say he fled the area in a gray sedan. b.a.r.t., highest paid employee in 2012 never worked a single day for the entire year. former general manager dorothy dugger retired under pressure more than a year ago. for the year she collected a paycheck. she's been cashing in on almost 80 weeks of unused vacation time. her benefits also continued and she earned an additional two months of vacation. b.a.r.t. had already paid her $920,000 to remove herself from the board.

el portal drive. you see a lot of people came to the aid of the people inside al white suv. the highway patrol says no one suffered major injuries in this crash. all lanes are now open. although three were closed at this time. it's not clear what caused the driver to lose control. the highway patrol is investigating. continuing coverage of a security controversy. this man has come forward about the source of a security program. the white house has come under fire. a 29-year-old edward snowden says he is the whistle-blower. he says he left his job at the nis job in hawaii several weeks ago. snowden is now in hiding. >> reporter: the 29-year-old american who reportedly leaked the classified information, edward snowden says americans

the increased fire danger around the bay area prompted redwood city to use a herd of sheep to help with fire prevention. about 200 animals are on farm hill boulevard including some cute little ones. city officials say for the next two weeks the area will be temporarily fenced with low voltage electric fire while the goats do their thing eating away at poison oak and other plants to provide fuel for grass fires. >> we were talking about the warm temperatures but today quite a shift. let's check in now with our meteorologist mark tamayo. i'm looking at the radar and there was no green on the radar yesterday. >> yesterday we were talking about the heat and right now we're tracking a few thunderstorms and showers out there approaching the bay area. so a changing weather pattern for tonight that could change your monday morning commute. look into the right into the east of the bay area. lightning strikes dissipating outside the modesto area but

closer inspection here of the radar. you can see some activity. a lot of this not reaching the ground but about 45 minutes ago reports of thunder heard in pacifica with that system looking out to the west. so moving from east to west. here's a closer inspection of the radar right now as we take a zoom in a little tighter. you can see to the east of concord. a lot of it not reaching the ground. this is moisture in the upper levels but this is unstable so it can still produce some lightning strikes and you might hear some thunder as well. thunderstorms in the forecast with at least a chance in the next 10 hours. watching out for that. as far as the winds. it is basically a wind machine out toward fairfield all day long. right now sustained winds 30 miles per hour. oakland 15 miles per hour. not so bad in santa rosa out of the southwest. and some more neighborhoods. more wind reports. mountain view calm but half- moon bay at -- the major cooling. remember yesterday we were topping 100 degrees. temperatures today coming down a good 28 to 32 degrees.
