the death of 17-year-old teenager trayvon martin. now we want to show you a live picture in san francisco's mission district. you can see police vehicles lined up in the streets, a large crowd is gathered at 24/7 and valencia and on mission street from 16th to cesar chavez, which was closed by protesters tonight, anger at the verdict. police on standby, monitoring the situation. so far, things have been peaceful. >> earlier tonight protesters began gathering outside of the florida courtroom. civil rights groups have had a close eye on this case from the very beginning saying there were racial undertones in the shooting of the unarmed black teen by the volunteer neighborhood watchman. the family of trayvon martin was not in the courtroom when the verdict was read on advice of their attorneys. >> they have sat here for four weeks and i don't know how harder step of the way, what

they had to endure, the pain of hearing gunshot after gunshot after gunshot, same call, faces of the son in the morgue, time and time again. >> the attorney says the family is at an undisclosed location tonight. we have team coverage. ktvu's jade hernandez is live in san francisco with local reaction and we begin with debora villalon. >> we're at frank ogawa plaza, where you can see people are gathered here, this protest starting to grow in just the last half-hour. many people are wearing hoodies and some carrying signs and protesters outraged that martin's shooting was seen bit jurors as justifiable self- defense. >> we the jury find george zimmerman not guilty. 2-year-old george zimmerman heard the verdict with little emotion after 16 hours' of

deliberation, the jury cleared him of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year- old trayvon martian. >> obviously , we are ecstatic with the results. >> reporter: the prosecution admits that the case was difficult. >> what we always believed was that this was a case of details that had to be analyzed very, very carefully. >> reporter: the shooting happened in february last year. in the small town of sanford, outside of orlando. with screams recorded on the now infamous 911 call. the mother of george zimmerman said it was her son's voice. the mother of trayvon martin says the scream came from her son. >> for whatever reason the defense decided it was necessary to make trayvon to be

cars and just park here at 24th and valencia, you can see what is just behind this bus, seven san francisco police vans and a squad car. these police officers have been following protesters throughout the mission tonight. the protesters' signs have said "the whole system is racist and the people say guilty." these protesters chant, our son, your son, we are all trayvon." rally-goers say trayvon martin demanded justice. >> reporter: the last-minute protest began at 24th and mission around 8:00 tonight the rally turned into a march at 9:00, 30 minutes later, hundreds gathered for this relatively peaceful. promptu rally march in the mission district. >> we're here tonight because this verdict in sanford,

florida is an injustice. george zimmerman murdered trayvon martin. >> reporter: we watched at least squad cars follow protesters as they continue marching towards valencia street 45 minutes ago and protesters are still on the move. throughout this entire rally, san francisco police, i want to bring you back out live to 4th and valencia, have been out in full force. they have gathered and monitored crowds as drivers tried to get around sign- holders who took to the streets. we have got seven san francisco police vans out here, very heavy police presence tonight, but all has been pretty peaceful. reporting live from san francisco, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. jade, can you give us an idea where the crowd is at this moment? >> reporter: i have to tell you i spoke to one of the organizers and

giving us updates from spot to. so we're at 24th and valencia and protesters are actually just past or van about two and a half blocks. we have tried to keep up with them all night, but it's just a fluid movement. as soon as they get to one spot, they were supposed to stay at 24th and valencia and they have rallied the crowd and continued to march on. so we have just followed them for the past couple of hours. >> we can see some banners about a block away. you did mention 24th and mission, 16 and mission which are bart stations. has this affected bart service at all? >> reporter: as far as bart service, we copyright be sure. we have stayed above ground. we have marched with the protesters a couple of blocks and had to move our van. it's difficult in the mission to grab a parking spot. so as soon as we got to a spot, we jumped back in and move with protesters as they moved towards 4th and valencia, so i'm not sure how long they will march, but we'll continue to

lined 3rd street and evans avenue while responders evaluated them. eventually loading up 19 patients to be checked out at various hospitals. michelle howard says she has on board with her young daughter when the crash happened. >> where that glass fell in at. >> reporter: she says she scrambled to protect her daughter. >> i had to cover my baby so the glass wouldn't hit her. >> reporter: police say the muni light-rail vehicle and van were heading towards the downtown, that the van tried to make a left turn in front of the light-rail vehicle and that is what caused the accident. >> there has been some talk about a pedestrian that may have been in the crosswalk and that was causing one of the drivers to pause in the queue and that may have been an associated factor to the accident. >> reporter: police say that the driver of white van has been cooperative with investigators and taken to the hospital. muni got the line cleared and

service restored by 4:15 this afternoon. san francisco, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. and take a look at the damage, earlier today after a san francisco city van slammed into several parked cars in pacific heights. one car actually was wedged under another, leaving one vehicle with two wheels on hood. this all happened this morning on california street near bake are tv police say appears that the van driving was going about 45 miles per hour and may have fallen asleep at the wheel. >> that is what we heard as well, that he actually went through the red light and he was asleep. so that is why we heard no brake or screech. he just went full force. >> fortunately the vap was empty except for the driver, who was taken to the hospital with injuries to his arm, hip and back. that shuttle is part of a city homeless outreach program. now to our coverage of the crash of flight 214. flights out of san francisco

airport went smoothly today. the first full day of operations since the crash. the sfo duty manager told us this afternoon that the airport experienced a few delays, but there was good weather. runway 28 left re-open after clean-up and repair work, putting all four of the airport's runways now back in service. a somber group gathered if burlingame to honor the victims. flight 214 and the families of two teenaged who died received an outpouring of support. >> reporter: more than 100 people gathered in burlingame just across from san francisco international airport to honor the victims of asiana flight 214. >> on the shoreline of san francisco bay, a very, very special place. >> reporter: it was organized by the buddhist

we will catch these monsters. >> we just hope his memory doesn't die, and the whole event just isn't forgotten by anyone. >> in san francisco, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. so far the reward in this case has reached $35,000 and tonight's fundraiser already has raised at least $6,000. san josi police are trying to find the gunman involved in a deadly shooting. a police spokesman says officers got a report around 9:had a last night of a shooting on state and archer streets. investigators say the 32-year- old victim was talking to someone on the sidewalk when the gunman walked up and shot him. the man was rushed to the hospital where he later died. this is san josi's 27m homicide of the year. san francisco police have identified the suspects gunman in yesterday's jewelry store killings and say he is 23- year-old barry white of antoff, booked on suspicion of two count counts of murder and serv

counts of attempted murder. police say he shot and killed another fale employee and stabbed the other to death and shot and stabbed the store's owner. that male victim remains in critical condition tonight. it's now been more than three days since the disappearance of an oakland toddler and police say they have no new information to share on her whereabouts. the father of 21-month-old daphne voila webb says he left his daughter and mother in a car on international boulevard wednesday morning while he went into a market. when he returned he says the little girl was gone. the father, 49-year-old john webb was taken into custody, accused of child endangerment, but released last night without any charges being filed. chefs at a poplar restaurant chain held a demonstration for better pay on the peninsula. more than a dozen workers held up signs outside of benihana restaurant in burlingame this morning. they say $8 an hour is not enough for a family to live on in the bay area. they loss claimed that the restaurant has changed the tipping system, so that they

. emotional reaction in florida tonight to the george zimmerman verdict, late tonight the jury of six women found zimmerman not guilty of second- degree murder. although they asked the court about manslaughter earlier in the day they apparently rejected that charge as well. the sanford, florida neighborhood watchman maintained he shot trayvon martin in self-defense.

garrett tenney joins us live from sanford, florida. >> reporter: ken, i will tell you what, that crowd outside of the courthouse was building throughout the day as was the anticipation of this verdict and what that verdict did come down, that emotion kind of outpoured through the entire crowd here. many of the people that were here were supporters of trayvon martin and they were visibly upset. there were tears and chants for "we want justice." in the courtroom as well. the family of george zimmerman, lots of emotion from them, you can image his wife was crying and his parents who were also sitting right behind him were giving hugs to the defense team as well as pretty much anyone around them. so at this time tonight, george zimmerman is a free man. >> the state of it florida vs. george zimmerman, verdict, we the jury find george zimmerman not guilty. say we all. >> reporter: at least 14 hours' of deliberations in central florida and the six women of the jury say george zimmerman
