martin and they marched from frank ogawa plaza to lake merritt. ers were followed by a heavy police presence graham johnson a live look at a quiet downtown oakland as you can see here, a different scene than just a few hours ago. oakland police tell ktvu there were no arrested during today's protest. security remained tight around each rally and march planned in oakland. >> ktvu's jade hender questions about live near lake merritts a new amphitheater, where a candlelight vigil wrapped up just about an hour ago. >> reporter: heather, tonight, began much as it began very peacefully. dozens of people gathered as the sunset. >> peace and love is the way forward for us and that is how we actually achieve justice. >> tonight candles burnedded for young people who lost their lives to gun violence and for trayvon martin, one man is disappointed by florida

hovering police, one protester told us kept her from marching. >> i don't want to be labeled as someone who thinks that breaking windows is going to solve anything in this society. and like the last couple of marches, all this week have been riddled with police and like i don't see how that is helping our community. >> reporter: as we mentioned earlier today the vigil was peaceful. those who gathered signed a banner and lit candles. oakland police increased this weekend's staffing and pulling in help from other law enforcement agencies and as we mentioned earlier, there were no arrests. reporting live in oakland, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. there were concerns ahead of today's day of action that there might be a repeat of the violence from earlier this week. one oakland city willsman says he believes that the city is seeing violent outburst during protests because city leaders have created an atmosphere that allows such incidents to happen. >> they can break in my house and shoot up my neighborhood,

they can vandalize international and sometimes we don't respond with the law enforcement. people call, call and nobody shows up. >> the interim oakland police chief says his department is trying to respond efficiently to calls while dealing with a severe understaffing problem. >> 100 cities hold rallies across the nation, 3,000 people demonstrated in downtown atlanta. family members of dr. martin luther king who based his civil rights movement in atlanta says his work remains you been finished. >> people in a small quiet crowd carried pictures of trayvon martin through the streets of sanford, florida. that is martin's hometown and the place he was killed. hundreds marched in los angeles at the federal courthouse there and speakers said that the system is broken and that no one should be racially profiled. >> in oakland, one polarizing

three kids rushed to it a barrage of bullets ripped through it. bia's daughter was shot in the shoulder and a friend grazed in the stomach and their grandmother wounded too. but the gurnthat caught-year- old alaysha carradine killed her. >> i loved that girl like she was my own. her and my daughter would play together, do things together. >> reporter: alaisha and amara were best friends attending the same school and their classmates sent the messages since the shooting. the two girls were inseparable. >> it was okay for him to come. it has was like her second home. >> reporter: colbert says she feels terrible for alaysha's mother who was out of town when she got the urgent call to come home. >> it was like, ladybug is dead. >> ladybug, alaysha's nickname since she was a baby. she and her mom had talked ton

the phone the day she died. >> she was like i'm having lots of fun. she is so square feet. that little girl is so sweet. i don't know how somebody could take her life. i just want to get justice for her death. i don't feel like the person that took her life should be able to just roam the streets and be free, when i don't get to spend my more days with my baby. >> reporter: colbert says she has no idea why some would target her household. >> she hopes that the killer is caught, but relatives say they will never return to live here. >> someone that they don't know shot up the house and everybody is feeling fearful until that person is caught. >> reporter: the two wounded kids ages 4 and 7 are out of the hospital now, and recovering. >> it took a couple of days to explain to my child that her left friend is gone. >> reporter: alaisha is the youngest of seven children shot to death in

oakland this year, all of others were teenagers. we checked with oakland police tonight, nothing new on this investigation, but there is a $35,000 reward for information leading to her killer. reporting live in oakland, debora villalon, ktvu channel 2 news. now to our coverage of the crash of flight 214 and the families of three victims killed by the asiana plane crash and it's aftermath have hired a law firm. chronicle reports that they are represented by an attorney from a new york-based aviation law fiscal year and today asiana airlines hired disaster response company dsm global to handle the return of personal effects from the crash. there was a big fix it job in foreman after a large sinkhole opened up in the city's mission district. according to san francisco public works, the sinkhole on

treat street near 20th was about 3' deep and several feet wide. crews patch up the sinkhole to make it safe to drive on and they say sinkholes are not concommon in the city. it's just part of having an ongoing aging infrastructure. new details about a body found floating yesterday in an east bait lake. police say the body is that of a man believed to be a concord resident, who witnesses say fell into ellis lake. police haven't yet released his name or cause of death and say at is this point the death apartners accidental. body of a missing woman was located in a car found at the bottom of a steep ravine in orinda. family members say 92-year-old mary farrelly garvey went missing on thursday. there was no word yet on what might have caused the accident. helping veterans from world war ii all way to iraq and afghanistan.

veterans got much-needed help to start working. >> reporter: a sunny day in pleasanton was the perfect backdrop for dozens of veterans to find much-needed assistance. >> we're not looking for handouts we're looking for opportunities. >> reporter: this veteran's resource fair brought in vets from world war ii to the nation's most recent conflicts in iraq and afghanistan. i'm currently work and looking to maybe go back to school and i was interested in some of the benefits to go back to school. >> i have a vaclaim many and i wanted to talk to one representatives to see at what point my claim was and it was a goodvation. >> the vets will prevent conversations with veterans administrations officials and that was only the beginning, offering information about health care, education and job fair and how to avoid being foreclosed on and defrauded. >> there are people that set themselves up as some sort of counselor that will help the veterans access their veterans benefits and sometimes they

charge them, you know, hundreds and even thousands of dollars. >> reporter: services the government provides for free. >> one of the more unusual organizations here, the vets and vines foundation. it helps vets with jobs in the wine industry. >> when they get out of the military to help them with that transition. >> reporter: organizers say they will hold more of these events because the need is so great here in the bay area. in pleasanton, i'm john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. volunteers in san francisco honored congresswoman nancy pelosi for her efforts in the fight against aid. >> the nancy pelosi leadership walkway was officially opened to the public at the national aids memorial grove in golden gate park. representative pelosi's young grandchildren were among dozens of volunteers who helped to plant flowers and shrubs. >> these kids will say when

they go to a museum someplace, there used to be this thing called aids. >> the san francisco congresswoman sponsored legislation that created the grove as a place where people can gather to reflect and draw hope. meantime tomorrow marks the 2th annual san francisco aids walk, organizers say donations this year are on track to top $2 million. that offset raises money for the san francisco aids foundation and other bay area hiv/aids programs and services. sign-up for the 10k event that starts at 9:00 tomorrow morning and sharon meadows in golden gate park and the walk kicks off at 10:30. >> new developments tonight in the dog poisoning case in san francisco. a $5,000 reward is now being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever left poisoned meatballs in the diamond heights and twin peaks neighborhoods earlier this month. a dachshund died after eating those meatballs and the police

say they contained strychnine and blethey were left out to kill dogs. two fairfield officers tried to stop a hummer for a traffic violation at grand central and east tabor avenue last night. the officers pursued the hummer until it got stuck on an embankment. police say the driver opened fire and officers returned fire and fatally shot the man. in southern california the mountain fire has destroyed almost 20 homes and buildings and still theaterrens two communities. it has burned more than 27,000 acres. on the western slopes of mountain san jacinto it's 49% contained. fire officials say the weather forecast is a mixed blessing. >> we do have some thunderstorms coming in, cooling temperatures, a chance of precipitation that will help the firefighters out on the ground. however, they still need to keep a head's up on the

lightning associated with those thunderstorms. >> these a the fire was started by a person, but it's not clear if it was deliberate or accidental. >> the u.s. air force is considering a plan for offshore exploration. according to the l.a. times the proposed wells would be drilled on the base in santa barbara county. they would end to offshore deposits by the use of slant wells deep underground. valentinal groups say the wells would still pose a threat to wildlife along the central coast. the investigation into a roller coaster fatality is now focusing on the seat restraint that witnesses say gave way. six flag has closed the texas giant giant roller coaster at the

us as a community. >> the trial for the accused gunman james holmeses is scheduled to be begin in february. in news of the world tonight, seven car bombs exploded in shi'ite areas of baghdad today, part of an eruption of violence that began at the start of ramadan. so far at least 250 people have been killed in iraq since july 10th. breakfast and attacks today claimed the lives of 46 people. there was no immediate claim of responsibility for today's attacks, but coordinated bombings against shi'ites suggest it was the work of al- qaeda's iraq blanch. in italy five people pleaded guilty in crimes kicked to the deady wreck of the costa concordia. four crew member and an employee with the cruise company that operated the vessel received prison terms for manslaughter. the ship's captain is on trial, accused cowardice and incompetentence and he faced up to 20 years in prison. and in dubai, lose your weight in gold.

just coming into the ktvu newsroom, it's happening in san francisco at this hour. where police right now on the scene of what appears to be a double shooting. initial reports indicate that at least one person is dead, and another person was wounded. this all happened just a little bit after 10:00 at intersection of larkin and ofarrell streets and we'll update you with any new information on the double shooting in san francisco's tenderloin district as soon as it becomes available. dogs are cleaning up their act this weekend to benefit other canines. doesn't look too happy with that. pet food express stores are making donations to the foundation in the hopes of raising funds to buy bulletproof vests and temperature alarms in police cars and trauma kits for k-9

. severe thunderstorms hit parts of nevada and causing damage in las vegas. rain hit sin city, and cars drove through hubcap high water and widespread outstandings kept par parts of vegas dark for hours last night. >> mark tamayo in the weather center. >> we're watching that activity in las vegas, because it could be approaching parts of the state including the bay area and, in fact, it shows it nicely on the raid on live stormtracker 2. the reds around las vegas. you can see a good reflection of the thunderstorms in the area, and some of this moisture will be moving in from the

south, approaching the central portions of the state over the next 48 hours or 48-72 hours. right now we have the fog showing up coastside already, pushing back into the bay. and a bit of a breeze especially outside towards fairfield, winds out the west, sustained at 23 miles per hour. i suspect throughout the day tomorrow we're still going to have gusty winds. time-lapse from today, you can see the fog heading the coastline. this was the time-lapse during the:00 hour. the 3:00 hour. highs from today as adverting we're talking about 90s inland, but the other end of the temperature range pretty chilly 6in san francisco, eh degrees. forecast headlines, fog will be increasing, tomorrow morning cloud cover and then monday and tuesday, high clouds and it could feel a bit muggy out there for both monday and into tuesday. overnight lows will be pretty

chilly, low 50s towards santa rosa and napa. areas of fog especially near the bay and along the coast and i suspect we'll have patchy drizzle returning to the shoreline tomorrow. here is the key change tomorrow. we're watching the moisture to our south, buttor former, high pressure begins to back off and the cooling trend kicks in. inland neighborhoods, lower 90s. as the high goes away it will set up the circulation and all the move moisture moving in from the south. as far as thunderstorms, we do bring in the slight chance of a few isolated thunderstorms approaching the bay area as we head into monday and tuesday. in fact, here is our forecast model increasing the clouds throughout the day on monday, monday afternoon at 5:00 and the cloud cover moves in by
