we have updated numbers tonight showing that the rim fire near yosemite has now grown to more than 60,000 acres. good evening everyone i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. so far there is no stopping it. an out of control forest fire has now grown to 60,000 acres while containment has dropped to just 1%. the fire is burning east of groveland just south of

yosemite national park. governor brown declared a state of emergency bringing up money and fire fighting resources. we get the developing news from robert handa. he's live in groveland where he's been talking to people who evacuated and many worry they may not have a home to return to, robert. >> reporter: we're at the calfire command center. nighttime is a chance for firefighters to make some progress. the fire shows the beautiful cascade through the fire. >> we fought it aggressive. very aggressively all day long. >> reporter: at night what's the strategy. >> we have crews out there, hopefully we can get some containment that way. because that gives us a chance while it lays down at night.

fire grew. it grew quite a bit today from yesterday, about three times its size. we were able to see it from the ghost satellite. the red flag warning has been dropped for the sierra nevada. that's good news but there are warm conditions in the forecast for the fire area again tomorrow. temperatures in the fire zone will be back in the upper 80s to low 90s. when i come back in 10 minutes we're going to be talking about the fog. we're going to be talking about the area forecast, we'll see you back here in about 10 minutes. summer vacation plans are being disrupted by the rim fire. in the park officials have closed the campground that is closest to the fire line. hodgson meadow is near the fire line. it's been evacuated and all evacuations have been cancelled. two groves of giant sequoia's

outburst. >> reporter: tonight alana pound on the glass and said he is not guilty. even in his red jail jump suit, alana comes along as very charismatic. we spent an hour with him. no cameras, i was only allowed to take these notes and at one point alana asked me to stop writing. randy alana has been locked up for 16 days on a parol violation. he has yet to be charged in the death of his one time girlfriend sandra koch. when i asked him about it he said, they haven't named me a suspect but they're treating me like it. jail restrictions only allowed me to bring a pen and paper. alana says he went to church with sandra koch on sunday august 4th she disappeared that night. police arrested alana two days later. while he would not fill in the

gaps at that time, alana says he was calling alana's number from jail. when i asked alana if he was responsible for koch's death he paused and replied i am completely innocent of any improprieties to do with this situation. alana says he dated koch for 11 years but the relationship ended 10 years ago. about koch alana said she was like an angel that floated out of heaven. a frequent inmate, koch went to great lengths to hide his criminal history from her family. he says they've made me out to be an expletive monster, when i see that i don't even like myself. we reached out to sandra koch's

new video tonight of s.w.a.t. team officers in vallejo as they surround a house where a homicide suspect was thought to be hold up. just about an hour ago, the s.w.a.t. team entered that house but there was no sign of the man they were looking for. the ordeal started about 6:00 this evening when police confronted two men inside a parked car near pacheco drive. officers arrested one man who is a suspect in a recent shooting. the other man took off and ran into that near by house. he is still at large tonight.

tonight a south bay veteran is mourning the loss of his beloved service dog who went missing earlier this week. maureen naylor live in san jose with a new source of comfort arriving at a crucial time of grief. >> reporter: the dog, the service dog was found not far from this area where tonight volunteers took these lost dog fliers down. this as we learned about some unique support that arrived today for the owner. they were a pair with a traumatic past. but for iraq war veteran luke wilson his service dog brought him love and peace. until today's devastating news. >> he broke down and we just gave him time to grieve. >> reporter: tonight we spoke to a nonprofit who was with wilson when he received the news that lobo had been found. >> he still had his collar and

something to focus on. something to pet, stroke, feed. >> reporter: and the organization says the outpouring of support on their facebook page for both wilson and his wife has been tremendous. reporting live tonight in san jose, maureen naylor. concord shop owners may breathe a little easier. a pet food express on ignacio valley road were robbed. police say they arrested 57- year-old richard fringe at his home today. they said they found evidence that linked charles curry who was also arrested. police say they also found the gun used in those robberies. the burning manifest value starts on monday and there's word attendees should expect a large police presence this year. tens of thousands of people are expected for the counter culture festival.

a few people who have arrived early report that police are already out in force handing out tickets for minor infractions. the fog is moving into the bay area right now as you would expect. as it did last night. there's a lot of fog tomorrow morning. you can already see it in the marin county area along the coastline. you can't see it really well but it's already in the east bay hill. you wake up for you friday morning and there's fog. here's what's not around anymore that red flag warning, they're all up here in eastern oregon, eastern washington and parts of idaho. that's where that weather system went. where that system went is where the bay area whether be seeing. we really dodged a bullet. as that system moving through we had all those lightning strikes, many offshore. if those occurred in the east bay hill with the heat we've been having it would be really bad news. we're very lucky that stuff has moved on.
