someone who is trying to break the silence. >> reporter: one of the intended targets of this afternoon's shooting was a 17- year-old but bullets struck innocent victims. one woman gearing young people away from violence says she needs help. young people geared with skateboards hang out. the city didn't get to this point overnight. >> this is a clear sign of larger societal failure here. today police handled two separate shootings the first near 80th around 2:00 this afternoon. police say less than a half hour later a shooter opened fire at 103rd hitting four people including an 8-year-old. including a 12-year-old and 8- year-old -year-old. no one was seriously hurt. simmons point says that drop

out rate approaches 16% where today's shooting occurred. she says investigators will continue putting body line outs at crime scenes until something changes. >> it took courage, it took people who were willing to put themselves in harm's way in order to do the work that needs to be done. invest investigators still don't know if the two shootings are linked. the department's seize fire has been under fire despite arrests and sit downs with alleged gang members. simmons says seize fire or not the violence has to stop. >> all of the policymakers understand that one program isn't going to change anything. >> reporter: simmons says she's working on a public safety plan here with police at headquarters and city leaders. tonight police say they've made no arrests in these shootings.

reporting live in oakland, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. more details on the children in today's shootings are expected to survive. other children in oakland have died this year to violence. on august 7th drew jackson was killed after someone shot through the walls of the house where he was sleeping. his father was also killed. on july 17th, 8-year-old alicia caradene was shot to death during a slumber party when someone outside sprayed the apartment with fire. two other young children were shot and killed in 2011. now to contra costa county where a high profile restaurant was robbed at gunpoint. it happened late last night at walnut creek's popular plaza. >> nobody's lives are lost, thank god. but either way, people's lives are threatened and it's the scariest thing. >> we talked to one of the employees who witnessed that robbery firsthand and she

describes a frightening ordeal as the robbers pointed guns at her and others demanding money. deborah villalon has footage you will only see on ktvu news. >> reporter: that server came up to us and said she wanted to talk to us about it because she opportunity want the robbers get away with it. 20-year-old amanda says the restaurant had just closed saturday evening when two men burst into the back office where she, her manager and a chef had the days receipts out. >> they kept saying, give me the money, where is the safe. we said, here is the money, the safe is open. >> there were guns pointed at our heads. >> we're asking the public to help us out with this. possibly identifying. >> reporter: walnut creek police showeds us police video. this suv leaving and another possibly the same vehicle from

a different angle. >> the vehicle involved we believe is a light colored suv. there's a roof rack on top of it that stand out a little bit. we're looking for any information that anyone might have of the suspects involved in this. >> reporter: it's a reminder for merchants be careful at closing. >> when you have large amounts of min changing hands at night. it's a window of opportunity for those who want to take it. >> do you think that downtown is still safe? >> absolutely. >> i'm shocked actually. walnut creek is usually a very safe place to come down and eat. >> reporter: customers could not believe it but are happy that the robbery did not flow out into the restaurant. >> we didn't even see it. we weren't aware that it was going on. >> reporter: hard to process the day after. >> it's something you see on tv, you don't think it's going to happen to you, and it's really frightening and i don't want that to happen to anyone else.

>> reporter: again the vehicle police are interested in is a cherokee jeep, the two suspects are african american men both under 6'tall with medium builds. in walnut creek, deborah villalon. ktvu channel 2 news. more details now of another broadway plaza heist. they stole jewelry from a display case at tiffany. they were locked out of the back. police have made no arrests in that case. now to developing news, where the rim fire continues to burn out of control. the fire has burned out a size roughly the size of chicago and today moved into the northern section of the yosemite national park. today the rim fire grew to 424 square miles. here are the latest numbers. the fire has burned 143,980 acres. it remains just 7% contained.

it's now the 14th largest fire in california history. firefighters are having to deal with extremely rough terrain and high winds. reporter mallory huff has details on how firefighters are trying to protect homes in the path of the flames. >> reporter: fire tore through the county. fire crews face strong winds making the fight against the blaze in steep rugged terrain even more challenging. >> we're getting really swirling terrible conditions which makings it difficult to get close on a direct attack. the approach is from the air. >> reporter: crews are also monitoring relatively small fires popping up daily. >> what you're looking at here behind me is a spot fire may be the result of ember picked up and drop about a mile away. >> reporter: 3,000 people are now working against the flames, at least one firefighter has

been treated for fire exhaustion, this is due by community show their appreciation. >> a lot of smoke. a lot of smoke, like gagging smoke. but guys doing a good job. >> reporter: evacuations have been lifted, the fire is creeping closer. >> there's concerns about the southeast. they're planning now looking to possibly put some advisories out for evacuations in those communities. >> that was mallory huff reporting. this shot was taken on friday, you can see the smoke visible right there in the middle of your screen. and take a look at this picture, we received this photo from tina pruitt of san ramon, she took this photo while flying to colorado.

and authorities say that the water supply has not been affected, there been some damage to the system of generators and power line that is provide electricity to the city. utility crews return today and started the repairs there. san francisco is buying power to replace the normal supply. a change in weather is making the fire fight more difficult for those battling that fire. today was the winds but mark tamayo joins us now with a potential threat that's now headed their way. the chance of thunderstorms will be increasing over the next couple of days probably not until tuesday. as far as current conditions out there. it is beginning to cool off. temperatures in the 60s. winds have been backing off as well. humidity levels coming up right around 40 to 49 percent. this picture as you can see snapped once again of the fire earlier today. terrain this is a constant extreme. monday temperatures, forecast highs in the 70s. medium humidity level around

19%. and winds tomorrow not as strong as today. here is the wind forecast for tomorrow. tomorrow morning still up there around yosemite valley. 19-miles-an-hour but over all around 10 to 15 miles per hour and the wind could back often a little bit by tomorrow afternoon. as far as the thunderstorms chances in the clear for tomorrow. look at what happens on tuesday. showers to the south of yosemite. and this could trigger a few thunderstorms. the showers would be good, lightning strikes not too good. and we'll be watching out for that on tuesday. we'll have the over all fog forecast. details on the humid conditions here and we'll highlight the warmest day days of the week. crews managed to contain a fast moving brush fire. the empire fire started yesterday and forced evacuations in georgetown until firefighters were able to surround it today. that fire scorched 38 acres it also destroyed one home as well

no one was hurt in the gunfire. >> the gunman was one of three children and had a troubled past. a double killing early this morning. ktvu's alex sadvige talked to neighbors who aren't used to this kind of violence. >> reporter: the union city street corner was closed off by crime scene tape as police investigated a shooting. jorge camacho heard four gunshots then silence. that was around 1:00 in the morning and he couldn't get back to sleep. >> i've been tossing and turning all morning. because you know it's kind of sad to hear someone get murdered like that. it's not right. >> reporter: for camacho this double homicide hits home. he says he survived a bullet to the head as a teenager. >> so i know how it feels. i was lucky to survive. >> reporter: the coroner removeed the body of one of the victims who died here at the scene. the second victim was rushed to

the hospital but died there. investigators are now trying to figure out what led up to the violence. >> at this point we're unsure of the motive. we're actually you know looking into every possible angle but we don't know the motive right now. we're definitely looking for witnesses. >> reporter: police spent the morning interviewing neighbors but tell me they have very few leads to go on as they try to solve what were the first two homicides of the year in union city. police are not sure what if any connection the victims had to this neighborhood. in union city, alex sadvidge. ktvu channel 2 news. am zone web servers experienced an outage. online home rental service, air b & b had problems along with instagram, flip board and vine. the cloud computing provider said on its web page this afternoon's outage lasted about 60 minutes and was due to a

a call of shots fired in san francisco led police to an abandoned party bus. eric rasmussen talked to people who heard the chaos last night but didn't see any suspects or victims. >> reporter: party buses, a common sight on a weekend night in san francisco, but a tragic ride came to a stop suddenly this morning. >> i heard gunshots. >> i heard two like that. >> reporter: other neighbors said they heard more shots than that. teresa came to the gate to find out what was going on. >> i saw a party bus over there. a charter bus. >> reporter: left behind with a trail of blood and what appears to be bullet holes on this brick wall. the crowd quickly spilled on to

the streets. >> there were some people saying, somebody is trying to shoot somebody over there. yeah, so i was afraid. >> reporter: officers detained several people but made no arrests. police say one woman in her early 20s was grazed by a bullet. >> i heard lots of shouts. >> did it sound like men and women or both? >> men and women. mostly women. i heard shouts of women. >> reporter: there's no word on what sparked the shooting. sur ray lance camera outside t he -- surveillance camera outside the hole in the wall bar declined to talk to us. but patrons say this is not anything new in this area. in san francisco, eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. richmond police are asking for the public's help tonight to try to catch a mail thief.

this imagine was caught on surveillance camera. the theft happened on wednesday afternoon on a house on interstate 80. here's another look. anyone with information is asked to call police. the adopted son of jerry sandusky is one of seven victims who agreed to a settlement in a molestation case. sandusky was convicted on 45 counts of sex abuse. his adopted son matt was going to testify in his defense but ended up telling investigators that he too was a victim. he recently filed papers to change his last name. the amount of the settlement was not disclosed. bob filner is stepping down this week and plans for a special election are on the way. he faces a sexual harassment lawsuit and agreed to resign if the city paid his legal fees. council president today --

todd gloria will become interim mayor. the legislation would outlaw the posting of identifiable nude or intimate photos of exlovers as revenge. that behavior would become a misdemeanor that could result in up to a year in jail. the state senate already passed a bill with one vote. senator leland yee rejected it saying he feared it would understood mine first amendment rights. as some students prepare to head back to school so are their teachers. a new law sees many teachers spending more money on their students this year. the school bans parents from paying for supplies, uniforms and equipment. the idea is to make sure all kid have access to the same opportunities. but not everyone agrees the goal will be met. >> reporter: in oakland, the rush is on to get ready for the first day of school.
