same period. last weekend, that county also showed an increase in drunk- driving arrests compared to last year. the 17-year-old victim in the arapahoe high school shooting last week in colorado has died. claire davis has shot in the head by a gunman at her high school in colorado eight days ago. she passed away today, surrounded by her family at a hospital. the arapahoe county sheriff says it appears 18-year-old karl pierson shot her at random. officials believe that pierson was targeting a librarian who disciplined him weeks ago. a heart-wrenching letter from the mother of a 13 -year-old girl has been released. nailah winkfield, the mother of jahi mcmath asked for prayers on behalf of her daughter. the family went to court to keep jahi on life support. yesterday a judge ruled in favor of the family and scheduled a hearing for monday,

the u.s. postal service is partnering with staples to offer services of the protesters say the trend puts workers at-risk, moving them to low-paying jobs from good- paying jobs with benefits. >> a lot of these jobs are held by minority, african-americans, and latino people. working people from all across the country. >> staples did not respond to our calls for comment. recently the berkeley city council restricted the use of the berkeley post office to public uses if it is sold. some east bay children who might not have had a merry christmas got much-needed help from police and fire volunteers today. but as ktvu's allie rasmus explains it was the volunteers who needed help to make it happen. >> reporter: the line stretched outside of the ywca in richmond this morning. bundled up against the cold parents and their kids waited anxiously in line for christmas to come a few days early. >> the toys, to give my kids

some toys and they give out food too, so it helps out a lot- inside the gym, volunteers formed an assembly line, hauling up and handing out bags of gifts the fire departments and police have hosted this event for years. in previous years the organization had given away toys to as much a2,000 families and this year they had to cut the number in half. because until just a few days ago they had say shortage of donations. >> five days ago we put out a request to the public to help us make our goal and $5700 was raised by on-line donation by people giving $20, $30 here and there. >> reporter: another $10,000 came through with chevron offering to match it. this bike raffle provide an extra miracle for some in line. organize only had 400 bikes for
