the building. >> mcmath has been hooked to machines since he was declared brain dead back on december 12th following tonsil surgery. patti lee is at the home in the law office in san francisco where the family attorney was expected to talk about what will happen next with jahi. p atti can you tell us what happened there. >> reporter: christopher dolman has started speaking. he says that luck is not on her side but at least she has a better chance. she will be given a feeding tube before she gets to the facility where she has been treated. they say she has not had a feeding tube for the last 20

days. i'll have details why they say this transfer was more difficult than expected. >> we know that news conference is still going on. we'll hear from you in a little bit. more details now, this gut wrenching case began on december 9 when jahi went in for surgery. on december 30th an order was extended until january 7th to give the family time to move jahi. and this evening, jahi mcmath was moved from the hospital and released to the coroner who reportedly then released her body to her mother. >> now to the deep freeze gripping much of the country tonight. factoring in the windchill today it was minus 54 degrees in park rapids minnesota. tomorrow it's forecasted to be 15 below in chicago.

here's what it looked like today in situit. homes and mailboxes are covered with a salty sandy layer of ice. >> icy roads made for slick treacherous driving conditions. people were trying to make their way ever so slowly through s t. louis. to the south, a crash involving seven tractor trailers left drivers and passengers stranded in single digit temperatures. that is the sound of wind whipping through elk grove o.k. where a windchill advisory is in effect. part of the punishing cold is blamed on the polar vortex from the arctic. schools are cancelled for the entire state of minnesota tomorrow. the danger from the cold deemed to dangerous for children.

and this plane skidded off of the runway. that led to major disruptions in service. only adding to the very long list of cancelled and delayed flights from severe weather and other parts of the country. >> we have team coverage tonight. mark tamayo is tracking that winter storm. >> first we want to get more on the travel nightmare from christien kafton. he's live now at sfo after talking to some passengers stranded by this deep freeze. >> reporter: despite the mild weather we're having here, weather is causing travel nightmares. a two hour lay over in new york from germany turned into -- >> two days, i was able to get home with a stand by flight. >> reporter: weather has stalled travel in the midwest. eventually told she would fly

out tuesday she took her chances and flew to jfk where she took the first flight out. >> we were sitting on the plane for a little while too. there were ice chips falling. >> reporter: so far winter weather has cancelled 48 flights in bound to sfo and 48 departing flights. that means planes and crews can't get where their needed meaning more delays throughout the system. linda mctilley tracked her plane's rout online until it landed in san francisco. >> i know the plane is here. i don't understand the delay. maybe they're using our play for another flight or something like that. >> reporter: like other passengers, she pent a lot of

time trying to figure out what is next. switchboards are backlogged with callers. all of this means there's a lot of delays across the board. delays here at sfo are averaging between one and three hours. but delays of up to five hours aren't unusual. as for oakland we've heard there have been two outbound flights cancelled there and one inbound flight and at least two cancelled flights from san jose. we're live at sfo, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. thank you. we want to check in with mark. you say this could be one of the coldest systems in decades. >> that's the headlines heather. the coldest is heading in now. get ready for significant drop off in temperatures. as you can see the over all weather pattern, basely right now monday and tuesday. a wide area of very cold temperatures and dangerous windchills as well. diving to the south encompassing a good portion of

big win. >> reporter: the 49ers stated goal was simple, get back to the super bowl. but because they're a wild card team they know the majority or all of the play off heavy lifting will have to be done in the -- done on the road. they took care of that today. the temperature was reported as start of game at five below, to end at 15 below by the end of the game. dawson closer to field goal range. then on the game's final play, dawson kicked a 33-yard field goal to can give the niners a 23-20 win. >> i've waited a long time to win a play off game.

facility she will be moved to. a customer at a big box store says his identity has been stolen and he says he is not the only one that has been victimized. that customer was shopping at a best buy where his information was stolen from a smart phone purchase. >> he was pretty good. >> reporter: jesse diaz loves to shop at the best buy in vallejo, but recently he's been having second thoughts. >> i went in, paid for my phone with my best buy credit card. >> reporter: jesse went in a few weeks later but his card got declined. >> i said how did it get declined there's no way it

could get declined. >> reporter: someone had used his credit card to buy three tablets. the man used his social security to get into his account. the store's general manager told him he's not alone. >> he informed me i was not the only case. he says there's several other cases. pinning the same associate. >> reporter: vallejo police are looking into the case. >> we have the name of the employee that was involved in this, allegedly involved in this. and at some point, if best buy comes forward with addition information we may be able to put together a package for prosecution. best buy is keeping quiet only saying quote. we are working with local law enforcement. we cannot comment tpáurt -- further since there's an ongoing investigation. jesse is warning others so the same thing does not happen to them. >> of course i'm going to trust

sent to us by a passenger from inside the secure waiting area at the kansas airport. passenger mcdonald told ktvu buses carryed the 227 passengers and crew to an isolated terminal. >> there was only one entrance and one exit. there were a couple of different chaperones here that look like they work for the airport. there's some police officers here. captains, captains also grounded. the captains are not allowed to leave this area. and then they had fbi agents come and talk to every single one of us. >> there's no word of any injuries, damage or arrests in this incident. flight 24 arrived at logan international airport about 8:15 p.m. tonight pacific time. that's about 13 hours after it took off from sfo. there's no word on why the flight was rerouted to boston. petaluma police are searching for the person who stabbed a man as he sat in this car. it happened around 4:30 this morning at a parking lot in

petaluma parking lot near highway 101. the 33-year-old driver said his window was rolled down while she waited for his windows to defrost. a man in his 20s approached the vehicle, started yelling and stabbed him several times. the attacker is described as white, 6'tall, thin with a short buzz cut. the victim drove himself to a hospital with wounds to his upper chest and upper arm. he is expected to survive. democratic leader nancy pelosi spoke at her national -- today. >> we have a moral responsibility, we take an oath to protect and defend the american people and protecting and defending them means we must reduce gun violence. >> pelosi says more needs to be done to create jobs, and

new york city fire crews are looking for the cause of a fire that sparked right in midtown manhattan. the man who died got trapped in

a stairwell. he was identified as 27-year- old play wright daniel mcclong who was recently married. seven others were injured. the apartment was empty at the time the fire broke out. thousands of people are fleeing the iraqi city of belusia. as militants fight those mill -- militants that took over the city. which has gained control and other major areas. u.s. secretary of state john kerry said the u.s. will help the government but will not send troops. >> we have an interest in helping the legitimate and elected government. be able to push back against the terrorists. this is a fight that is bigger

updating our breaking news that we told you about at the top of this newscast. the family of mcmath, she's a 13-year-old who was declared brain dead at tonsil surgery announced that she was moved tonight from children's hospital. this all happened around 8:00. they are not disclosing the facility where the teen will be going to. we're expecting to hear more from the family as well as their attorney at a news conference that's taking place right now in san francisco. our patti lee is at this news conference and will join us a little later to tell us what the family is saying about the removal of mcmath from oakland's children's hospital. people throughout most of the northeast struggle with cool weather. ktvu's john fowler reports on some who believe this is all because of global warming. another weird day, some

henry urged people to get out. it's not sure what the port plans to do with the property. the driver of an suv lost control on interstate 880 and ended up in the water today. the female driver apparently lost control around 3:00 this afternoon. the vehicle went over a high rail and into the water. the suv was submerged but the driver did get out. it's not clear how badly she was injured. a five year parcel tax is on tomorrow's ageneral -- agenda for tomorrow's contra costa city council meeting. officials will recommend a tax that starts at $98 a year and grows 3% per year. the meeting will be held in oakley. the zoo has been working toward a new exhibit involving

back to the breaking news we're following in san francisco. a news conference has just wrapped up in the case of mcmath. >> that happened about two

hours ago but we don't know where she was taken. >> patti lee joins us now live with what will happen next. you were inside that news conference. let us know what the latest is patti. >> reporter: we just came down from that press conference. the photographer and i were at oakland children's hospital around 8:00 tonight and we did see the caravan go by. it consisted of an ambulance, a private ambulance with a medical team, sheriff's deputies and of course the family in separate cars. what we've learned is this was a very tricky transfer. it involved the sheriff deputies signing off on jahi's body. this is because on friday, last friday the alameda coroner declared jahi dead and had issued a death certificate for the little girl. she is with her family now. we don't know where she has been taken. but we are told that she will be getting a feeding tube before she's transferred to a

permanent facility. a facility that will stay private because according to her lawyer, her family's lawyer is for her protection. because this situation has pushed so many buttons and is raising so many strong emotions in the community. >> it's brought out the best in people and the worse in people. we've had people make threats from around the country. it's sad that people act that way. so for jahi's safety and those around her we will not be saying where she went or where she is. >> we're very grateful, very proud. we want to thank everyone that supported us. everybody that stood in our corner. everybody that prayed for us. everyone that donated to make this happen. i'm very grateful for this man right here. >> that is jahi mcmath's uncle. he tells us he's hoping for a 100% recovery. but because jahi mcmath has been treated as a dead person, that it is going to be a very

long road to recovery. now meantime the hospital spokesperson is taking issue with all of this. he says it is unfair to characterize the hospital as unfeeling and insensitive. john singer told us that the hospital along with the medical community has considered jahi mcmath to be a deceased person since december 12th. and that that is where it stands and that wherever she is taken is not going to make a difference. reporting live in san francisco, patti lee. >> such an emotional case for everyone involved. let's check in with mark tamayo to talk about the workweek forecast. >> not much changed except for a few high clouds for your monday and later in the week. a few very light showers but there's not too much -- not a lot of confidence with that shower threat. right now the records from today, looking out toward san francisco bay. san rafael 66 degrees.

that was a record. sfo66. a couple more to report as well for oakland and the oakland airport. on storm tracker, high clouds are approaching the area. current temperatures, now are in the 30s and 40s. so pretty chilly out there. santa rosa, napa, 38 degrees. san francisco 54 and san jose right now at 50 degrees. for tonight we do have this mostly clear skies tomorrow cold start and then the extended more clouds. we could be tracking a few showers to the north of the bay area. overnight lows first thing tomorrow will be pretty cold in santa rosa, napa 20s. san francisco 42 and san jose in the upper 30s at 37 degrees. once again the high clouds approaching the region. then later in the week, a sun- cloud mix and a cooling trend by thursday. there's a chance of a few showers primarily for the north
