they were going up. if you look at where 10 year treasury and long bond is trading they are down in yield and up nicely in price from the beginning of the year. >>should investors be concerned about the way they invest in a low interest rate market vs. a rising interest rate market? >>absolutely. maybe too much information here but if you look at where bonds are trading today we're probably 80 to 90 basis points higher in yield than we were a year ago. the important thing that you just mentioned is we're still in a low rate environment and we're still 100 to 150 basis points lower than where we were before the fed started buying all of these mortage backed securities and all these treasuries. so it's definitely a time to be careful. >>thank you for that jim. in our cover story, the bureau of labor statistics has revised its list of occupations it

aluminum. joining us now from the auto show-- the ford chief operating officer mark fields. good morning and why the change to aluminum from steel? >>first off, we listened to customers and what customers told us is they actually want more capability in their trucks and they want greater fuel efficiency. so in our next generation f series, which we are basically reinventing america's favorite truck, we have a high strength steel framewhich is the spine of the truck. then the body is a groundbreaking use of high strength aluminum alloy and that allows the vehicle to shed about 700 pounds. that allows customers to tow more, to haul more, to accelerate faster, to stop shorter, and get great fuel economy. >>what will be the biggest growth area for ford this year. what can investors really count on for 2014 for the company? >>overall we're very optimistic about 2014. we're coming off an outstanding 2013 in terms of our financial performance. also, it's the 4th year in a row

and providing those products to our customers. >>alright, that was a nice no comment. thanks for being on our show today. >>thanks angela. coming up...why the hack attacks at target and neiman marcus may be worse than suspected...bill moller brings us the details.and bank check.two financial firms that could come out with upside surprises this earnings season. we'll be right back.

there is no doubt the hackers are getting more sophisticated. the latest security breaches at target and neimens rattle all of us. so why can't systems be developed to protect us. it seems the bad guys are always ahead of the game. let's talk with jerry irvine. he is the cio with prescient solutions. you've just learned some new details about these latest hacks. what do we now know? >>there's suggestion now that based on the amount of information and the different categories of information from user id's, passwords, social security numbers, all of that
4:22 am
information that it was not just a point of sale system but potentially the back end servers as well. >>so much more deeply integrated. it's scary. do we need to get used to these kinds of headlines? >>unfortunately i think we do. the problem that we have is the hackers have the ability to share information openly without thought or fear of retribution. the individual companies if they share information they could be held liable. >>what percentage of retailers would you say have experienced a hack? >>truthfully i would guess most if not all companies have had some type of breach. whether they were minor breaches, denial of service attacks or something like that, all the way up to full breaches of personally identifiable. >>how fast do these bad guys operate? how quickly do they break through a security system once it's been put in place? >>some of these events are long term persistent threats which could take years to get in. the important part is once they've
4:23 am
found out how to do it they recreate that incident across multiple facilities. so it could be days or weeks or hours in some cases where they hit another facility. >>so what do we do? it makes me feel like i want to go all cash and forget credit cards altogether. what kinds of proactive steps do consumers need to be responsible for doing? >>not a bad idea but nobody can get rid of all of their credit cards. having credit cards that you use online that have lower limits so that if it is breached information isn't stolen. creating separate user id's and passwords across all of your individual accounts. don't have the same one everywhere because as soon as they hack it once, they can use that information to go somewhere else. >>one more thing. >>antivirus on your machines and don't use publicly accessible wifi. >>jerry irvine with prescient solutions thanks so much. >>thank you. thank you bill...just ahead why

it's a big week for the banks. joining us now is matt shapiro president of mws capital. he's not here to talk about the big guns thoughthe jp morgan's and citigroups of the world. he's watching some of the lesser talked about banks and glad to have you do so on the show today. what are you looking at? >>thanks angie. obviously jp morgan, citigroup, bank of america has the headlines. those conglomerate, supermarket big box banks. but my major bank holdings are in northern trust and us bank corp. they are a little smaller, a little
4:28 am
under the radar and i think they have a little bit more profits. none of these banks had the huge write downs or the legal fees of the financial crisis so you have a little bit more clarity. i think they appeal to slightly more conservative investors that don't want to be in the headlines. >>let's break it down. what do you expect performance wise from northern trust? >>it's coming out with earnings next week. the stock hit an all time high around 61. what happens when interest rates short term start to go up that plays actually right into northern trust's hands because it's the second largest custody bank after bank of new york mellon in the united states. so that's one of the big factors about why i like it as an investment. >>what do you expect from us bank corp? what do you see in the charts? >>again, us bank corp has hit a
4:29 am
high. all the banks are acting well. the conomy with gdp being revised, with employment doing pretty well, i think things are looking bright especially with the housing market and the real estate. so i expect good things out of all of the banks. of course i play a little bit more into northern trust than the us bank corp side rather than jp morgan or bank of america. >>these are long term holds for you correct? >>yes. i've owned both for many years. >>thank you for being on the show matt. >>you're welcome angie. that's it for today.coming up tomorrow...it's never too late to start saving for retirment.we'll have tips for those over the age of 50 on our show wednesday.from all of us at first business... it's going to be a great day!
