of their fans. the 49er faithful have invaded the land of the 12th man. they showed their pride at a huge rally in the emerald city. in fact, one fan describing it like game day. >> excitement is building for the battle of the nfc titans tomorrow. >> ktvu's julie hayne and sports director mark ibañez have been in seattle since thursday and join us live. >> hello and welcome from a chilly seattle, but it's dry and you can just feel the excitement building as we are now just less than 24 hours away from that big game tomorrow. >> i don't think any question that they are the 49er faithful. i'm always amazed at how many people take the time, the effort and the money to come on up and support their team and at one point today it was truly amazing. the 49ers took over about a city block. 49er fans were out there, loud, vocal and if there was any

hesitation about showing their colors, didn't see any of that at all. they were loud. they were boisterous and they were red and gold, big time. >> 49ers! >> all right, this rally took place in pioneer square, the historic neighborhood in downtown seattle. one of the resonance revivals. it was hot and rocking and there were so many people there, all excited about tomorrow's game. i met people from walnut creek, from danville, [ laughter ] and orinda who said this is great and so exciting we can feel the 49er fever and there is no place they said they would rather be. >> they are telling us that they should have brought our earplugs, but at the end of the day, they are going to be quiet. we have five ring and they have no rings. we're going all the way, baby!

let's go niners? >> we are treated very well and as a matter of fact we went out for breakfast kind of late and the server -- what did he write? go seahawks on our receipt and later she says we should have left $0.49 as a tip [ laughter ] >> we have been hearing a lot about the 12th man, but the 49ers have a whole lot of men and women up here, supporting the red and gold and i'm truly surprised -- maybe i shouldn't be at how many made the trek to the great northwest. with 49ers tomorrow, i don't know how many tickets they wound up getting whether that ticket hoarding by the seattle organization was going to come true, but i can tell you there will be some noise made by 49er fans in the stadium tomorrow. you know, you never know, they might drown out a few of those loud and rowdy seahawk fans. >> they were saying dish was

talking to them about the loudness factor and said you can count on us to be loud tomorrow. >> they will be heard. >> we both have had a chance to meet people and talk to people from the bay area and i had a chance to meet one young bay area and a wish has come true for this young bay area man. he gets to see the 49ers right here in seattle. for brian rosale, it's especially meaningful because it comes as he faces terminal cancer and has been given only months to live. as they stroll through seattle's pike street mark, taking in the sights and sounds the rosale familiful palo alto says this is a trip they will never forget. >> my parents have been amazing and decided to come up to seattle and they said fine, let's turn it into an adventure and we brought the whole family and rented a van and left thursday morning and here we are in seattle on saturday ready for the game tomorrow. >> reporter: he will be going to that game with words of encouragement

from the 49ers themselves. >> anytime you have a young man, who is suffering from cancer, and he is still willing to travel all across world just to see us play, that tells us a lot about his integrity. >> reporter: the team got winston cup that brian and his family would be making the trip to seattle and sent him an unexpected e-mail. >> it means a lot and you wake up on tuesday and your biggest heroes, sports heroes send you an e-mail acknowledging the fact that you are supporting them and acknowledging you, it means a lot. >> reporter: from the lobiv his hotel, brian showed us the inspirational message, cheering him on and telling him not to quit fighting and the whole time he beamed with pride as he read the name of some of his favorite plays. >> best regards patrick willis, vernon davis, colin kaepernick, coach jim harbaugh. >> reporter:

pretty cool. >> brian's dad says the message really lifted his spirit. >> he had been down, but when he saw this he was psyched up. >> reporter: he says it's been a roller coaster ever since. he has undergone two major surgeries and now in his second round of chemotherapy and brian says doctors delivered devastating news back in november, saying that the cancer has spread. >> it was kind of the worst- case scenario type of thing, you know? terminal, you have months to live and it's always just a shock to hear that. >> reporter: but brian says he is finding strength from moments, such as this, to stay upbeat and positive. >> hopefully this is the year of miracles for myself as well as the niners and other people as well. >> reporter: right now, for the rosale family, it's all about living for the moment and making each moment count. >> bring the family and having brian on our road-trip is everything. >> reporter: they say they have been wanting

to visit centurylink field for the past couple of seasons and as soon as they heard the nfc championship game was going to happen here, brian says he knew they had to go. >> i wanted to be there for the atmosphere and to hear the noise and give the 12th man a little taste of niner nation ourselves. >> reporter: and brian is just a remarkable young man. he turns 29 years old at the end of this month. and he says even though it's been an incredibly rough year and a half, he says it's also been an amazing year and a half and just going to the game tomorrow is just going to be one more highlight and he is just so excited. i'm just so glad he get a chance go to the game. he is just one of the many special people i have met as we all get ready for the big game tomorrow. >> we have met great people on both sides. the seahawk fans have been very hospitable for the most part and had that confirmed from 49er fans visiting. we want to talk football and

it's not as green as normal, and it's unfortunate. you look at alpine dam and the water levels are pretty low. >> it's a real hazard and pel need to be careful. anything will start off a fire. >> reporter: someone started a fire in the remote part of the watershed and investigators are trying to figure out if it was an accident or intentional? crews used chain saws and tools to cut through the woods and hiked hundreds of feet of hose to the flames all for a fire just over one acre. battalion chief per share says moisturure in the area is at a record-low and so dry that conditions looks like a day in august. >> if we get the right conditions with a little bit of low humidity and any type of wind, we're certainly at arisk of having a major wildland fire in any warm front these areas. >> governor jerry brown dreyered a drought emergency on friday, encouraging folks to

conserve during this unusual dry spell. >> this happens every year and right now because of the drought, it's very scary. >> we went down and adjusted the sprinklers for our landscaping and do what you can. we need rain bad. >> until mother nature brings that ring, marin county will stay under a burn ban. ktvu channel 2 news. ahead at 10:30, preparing for a busy fire season in the middle of winter. drastic actions being taken ahead of a possibly dangerous season. in the south bay a four- alarm fire caused least $1 million damage to a coffee shop. san josi fire crews say the fire started in the kitchen, of flames coffee ship at 6:30 this morning, yes, "flames" "is the name of the restaurant that burned. workers who were getting ready to open up saw the fire and rabto a nearby fire department for help. crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring businesses and no one was hurt. the man accused of setting

more than a dozen fires in downtown san josi has allegedly confessed to all of them a police report filed by the district attorney said brennan took police on i tour of the fire sites and explained how -- how he ignited each fire report says brennan took respot for the arsons and said he knew people were in danger. brennan was arraigned yesterday and is being held without bail. there were angry protests in southern california just days after orange county jury acquitted two former police officers of all charges in connection with the beating death of a schizophrenic homeless man. about 200 protesters gathered to demand what they called justice for kelly thomas. the 2011

but harmless. about a dozen people were arrested for blocking streets and public intoxication. >> we don't want any disorderly conduct. we're not going to toll rate any type of violence or vandalism. >> reporter: keeping streets clear for emergencies and transit, also a big priority. so an eight-block street of mission street will be tow-away and cars kept out from keeping people from congregate. >> hopefully the niners win, but bottom line we want everybody to be safe. >> reporter: after the world series win, dozens of garbage cans became bonfires. so learning from that, customers are being urged to bring their trash cans in. now ironically the trouble is a lot more likely if the niners win. you will recall last year's super bowl loss the streets were relatively quiet because the steam went out of everyone.

historic district, which could discourage private buyers. the university of california is seeing a record number of undergrad applications for the tenth year in a year. uc reported that applications jumped lpm 5% since last year. the increase comes completely from out of state applicants, which may boost coffers if those students pay for tuition. csu says applications are up at a record pace, close to 10% since 2012. after several months' of wrangling, researchers at uc berkeley say they will hand over a list of 75 concrete building in los angeles that might collapse should a major earthquake strike. the university announced the decision on the 20th anniversary of the deadly northridge quake that claimed the lives of 5 people. the researchers initially refused to hand over the list, saying that to do so would expose the researchers to legal

bucket they may not be able to use in locations used in. >> pat: >> reporter: the state fire emergency requires more manpower on the front line and on monday 125 seasonal firefighters start work for calfire that will be months ahead of schedule. reporting live in santa rosa, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters in southern california fought the flames of a destructive fire in los angeles county. at last check the colby fire is 60% contained with the last of the mandatory evacuation orders lifted at about 6:00 this evening. that fire destroyed five homes and 17 outbuildings and burned 1900 acres. firefighters say three men apparently started the fire with an illegal carnfirement all three were arrested. >> central valley farmers are hoping yesterday's drought declaration by the governor will get them through the dry winter. some farmers and ranchers are saying this drought is the worse that they have seen in

. well, the weather forecast is getting very old, once again we're talking about lots of sunshine and warm temperatures out there. possibly the long-range, not in our five-day, but beyond the five day we would be could be talking about a change. you can see upper 60s to low 70s, even a few mid-70s towards morgan hill, livermore and oakland, oakland 72 was a record. we'll bring you the records for you. this is day 6 in a row of records to report in the bay area. richmond at 71. oakland the lower 80s and the oakland airport breaking the old record of 66. right now we have mostly clear skies and like the past few nights temperatures cooling off

rapidly. napa 39, and santa rosa mostly clear skies and 51 degrees. in the pacific there is a weather system, but no threat of rain for us. a few high clouds approaching camp mendocino and quick update on the seattle weather. right now it's 40 degrees and here is the forecast model. put this into motion for tomorrow metro for the nfc championship. no rain threat and we'll take a closer inspection with temperatures mainly in the 40s. 1st quarter 47 degrees and by 4th quarter wrapping up the game down to the lower 40s, partly to mostly cloudy skies, but no rain threatening the forecast and even the winds calm as well. in the bay area for tonight, here is our live camera. looking out towards san francisco, the bay bridge. 7:00 tomorrow morning, 46 degrees. next week still that dry

weather pattern, but minor changes developing offshore. first thing tomorrow morning, lower 30s for santa rosa, napa and fairfield. with that just a little bit cooler, but still lots of sunshine. there is a weather system moving in at least approaching from the north and we're going to cal things off a little bit by tuesday, wednesday and thursday. and as this system tracks to the east of the bay area, this will generate some winds that could increase the fire danger by thursday night and into friday and possibly some more red-flag warnings kicking in for that timeframe. so we'll have to keep an eye on that. rainfall potential, dry. into tuesday, wednesday a few extra clouds on wednesday. have there have a slight chance of sprinkle. stale dry into next weekend, but beyond next weekend there is a chance we could talk about a change in the overall weather pattern that could boost the

thursday and he joins us live and the the old line familiarity breeds contempt really rings true in this case, doesn't it? >> reporter: sure, we were standing outside of the 49ers hotel about this time last night and one niner was out for a late-night stroll and told me, saying that he didn't want to be mentioned by name, but that he expects tomorrow's game to be as physical as any the 49ers have played in several years. as you mentioned it's the third meeting between the two. the first-round of the three- round bout didn't go too well with the 49ers. one of the keys was their inability to stop marshawn lynch, who scored a couple of touchdowns and the 49ers have been to play from behind, well, you know that did not work out well particularly in the great northwest. on the seahawk's home-field. however, things changed a little bit, not only this year, but last year. the 49ers able to handle the

seahawks in a couple of close games at candlestick park. the 49ers all in all have split four games in last two years. this is the deciderpt and you had a feeling it would come down to this from the very beginning of the season. super bowl for the winner and this is just the game that coach harbaugh says his players love to be part of. >> players love to play in these kind of games you know? big games, a lots on the line, stakes are high and competition is keen. so who want to play in that as applier doesn't get better than that. >> you can call it what you want, we're doing what we have to do to try to go win this game. this is what you play for. you play to make it to the super bowl and this is the next step for us to get there. >> i was saying when i was in

baltimore playing against pittsburgh, you respect each other as foes, but there is really a dislike. >> at the end of the day you have to play football. you can do all the talking and rah-rahs that you want to. you can come into the game, being chippy and hitting guys late and doing the bad stuff, when all of that emotion wears off, you are still left with playing football and that is when the real guys show up. >> i think there is something about the underdog mentality, it's always that kind of stick it to them kind of factor and it's kind of fun when you are an underdog, because you know no one wants you to win. i feel like when you are the favorite, you feel a little more pressure. everybody is expecting us to win if you are an underdog, nobody wants us to lynn and let's go in and have fun and play football. >> i'm sure you are all like me, you just want the hype to
