have knew him best. we get new information from debra villalon. >> reporter: one of those killed was a popular teacher. behind her in the backseat, her mother-in-law. both of them crushed by a driver chp says never touched his brakes. this is 53-year-old music teacher sue hufford last month, conducting her students in chorus. she taught thousands of santa rosa children over the years. >> my goodness goodness did is this woman have patience and nothing ever bothered her. but she always brought out the best in each child. >> reporter: families in her district are reeling at sue's sudden death yesterday in a car crash, as she, her husband, and inlaws were headed to a

restaurant to celebrate sue's birthday. >> i couldn't if i wanted too. >> reporter: jay is bolstered by faith and friends, as he grieves the loss of his wife and mother sharon. half their family is gone. >> it was preventible, and it's so unfair. we don't know how they're going to live without them. >> reporter: the driver who hit them told investigators he didn't see traffic stop because his eyes were on his cell phone. they also smelled, and found evidence he was using marijuana. >> he was looking down at his phone. whether or not he was in the process of texting, that's still being investigated. >> how high was he? >> it's difficult to put, with marijuana, until we get the results of the chemical tests. >> reporter: they have three

children, all in college and all rushing home to be with their dad. they have host their mom and grandmother. these students have lost their teacher. he hopes people put down their phones. >> keep it in your pocket. if it buzzes, ripings, you don't need to get it right now. it can wait. >> reporter: the other driver is out on $100,000 bail, arrested for vehicular manslaughter and dui. sue hufford taught at four schools. the district plans to keep it alive somehow in her name. police say a man was walking in the crosswalk on west texas street near 5th street around 9:40 this morning, when a truck hit him, he died at the hospital.

the truck driver, a 57-year-old fairfield man is cooperating with investigators. police have ruled out chollas a factor in this crash. in san francisco, it's happened again, another person could crossing the street is struck, this time by a tour bus. at 10:30, what the company behind that tour bus told us about the crash. now new developments about a woman in a shooting. an arrest warrant issued for the victim's husband. that suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, and now neighbors fear that he'll return. ktvu's christian captain has more on the desperate search so find this man. >> reporter: the hunt is on for the castro valley father and the neighbors tell me, they're worried he might come back. flowers rest on the front porch of the home that was the scene

of the shooting death. investigators say the 14-year- old daughter found her mother's body. alameda county sheriff's office won't say where she and her 8- year-old sister are now, only that their safe. the suspicion has turned to the victim's husband. >> the fact that he has made no attempt to contact his children, also other evidence at the home have made him now a suspect. >> reporter: deputies say he has two registered farm firearms. one was found in the home. the other is missing. they say there's been no trace of either since friday. >> we've been tracking his cell phone. his cell phone has been off since the day of the homicide. >> and the credit cards haven't

been used either? >> that information has not been released. >> reporter: things have been quiet in the year shapes lived there. while the search continues, neighbors say they're worried he could return. >> what if he just pops out. my thoughts are, what if he puts a gun in my face, i need something from the house, go in and get it. those thoughts are running through my head. >> reporter: investigators say he should be considered armed and dangerous. we're live in san leandro. los angeles police say they are getting lots of calls about the kidnapping of four children in an amber alert. there are two boys. as well as twin 1-year-old girls. police believe they were taken

months or years. >> he believes the black boxes will likely be found. a new study questions whether airport security is cost-effective. it concluded that those measures are not effective, and it may be time to reduce them. the numbers were calculated before a gunman killed two at l.a.x. in november, the studies coauthor said that attack doesn't change his conclusion. it was two years years ago that south bay teenager sierra lamar disappeared, and hasn't been seen since. sierra was honored at one of her favorite spots. ♪ [ music ] >> another sad anniversary.

there were no reports of injuries or damage. the man who founded a controversial anti-gay church is said to be in poor health. fred phelps. the westboro baptist church today said that phelps in a care facility. in spite of the harassment that phelps and his church have given to grieving families. a protest against an anti- gay policy. mayor marty walsh boycotted the parade, because members of gay activists were excluded. the mayor tried to negotiate a

more questions about street safety in san francisco, after a man was struck by a tour bus. today's accident follows a series of clashes involving people walking on the city streets. >> reporter: another pedestrian hit on the streets of san francisco is making crime scenes at intersections an all too familiar sight. police say a men in his 60s was walking across 7th street, when a sight seeing bus hit him. >> i didn't see this happen. it's really chilling.

>> i've also had some really close calls. >> reporter: police say the bus driver had a green light and the pedestrian was in the middle of the crosswalk. they're still trying to figure out what caused the accident. they're using cameras from two federal buildings nearby to get clues. >> we've never had an incident before, ever. >> reporter: he says this is the first pedestrian accident in the company's history. three tourists were transferred to another bus. >> we're very concerned about the locals and the pedestrians. our safety record is impeckably clean and we're proud of that. >> reporter: five people have been killed, most recently a 90- year-old woman who was hit by a cement truck. mayor ed lee announced the city will spend $17 million on pedestrian safety problems. allen welcomes any change. she says tragic accidents like these need to stop. >> it's just kind of beyond

words. you can't really kind of put that. >> reporter: no one has been cited in the incident. but that will change if the victim passes away. at last check, he was in critical condition. napa police say the woman behind the wheel of a stolen suv led them on a chase that ended when that vehicle crashed into a ravine. that pursuit continued until the suv went off morning side drive and into the steep ravine. firefighters used ropes and a basket stretcher to rescue the driver and her female passenger. the two women are expected to tas charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony evasion. it wasn't a vehicle, but a dog that wound up 40 feet down the side of a cliff in sonoma county. they located the black lab

it was a bittersweet goodbye to a beloved gymnasium. today, staff and community members said goodbye. they celebrated the thousands of events there with school tours, a vintage fashion show, and a booth with school memorabilia. the state republican convention wrapped up with speeches from the gop candidates for governor. the crowd favored tim donnelly. who said we would have to quote frack our way to prosperity. the state chair has said the party's focus is on local races. meantime, a new national poll shows republicans are split on just who should run for president. rand paul won the cnn poll.

paul ryan is not far behind. that same poll among democrats found hillary clinton, the overwhelming favorite. the blue angels are back in the skies. the elite flight demonstration team put on their first performance of the year. the u.s.a. navy is sending them to san francisco for fleet week this fall. with shows shows set for october 11 and 12th. they were grounded for much of last year because of budget cuts. a tweeting war has broken out. the two were guests on the jimmy kimmel show. rod ford and his brother were told they could not have their

our north, approaching mendocino. some of this will be approaching the bay area first thing tomorrow morning. as far as tonight, we just have fog trying to redevelop. i suspect that that patching fog will increase in coverage for the overnight hours. oakland, checking in 56. san jose, mostly clear skying, and a temperature of 55 degrees. tomorrow, temperatures on track to reach the upper 60s by about 4:00. we start out the day with clouds, increasing sunshine for the afternoon hours. that will be the forecast for anyone as we head into monday. as far as tomorrow, we do have this mostly clear skies with the expectation of patchy fog near the coastline. here is our live camera. temperatures continue to cool off. we showed you the 50s, most areas on track to reach the 40s tomorrow morning. tomorrow, cooler conditions

expected. gusty winds developing. a sun/cloud mix, really no major storms to talk about in the five to seven-day forecast. overnight lows monday morning, low 40s. san francisco, 50 degrees, san jose, starting out in the upper 40s at 48. there is a weather system to our north, generating rainfall north of mendocino. this will basically fall apart over northern california between now and 10:00 tomorrow morning. for your monday, we are expecting some clouds out there, a cool down, and there is a slight chance we could pick up a few sprinkles in the forecast models hinting at that first thing tomorrow morning. definitely a drop off in the temperatures, the winds increasing 15 to 25 miles per hour. here's a forecast model. a little bit of activity. we hold onto that slight chance of a sprinkle tomorrow morning. then by 9:00, all of that activity, at least the clouds, down in the south bay. and clearing skies with more sunshine into the afternoon hours. forecast highs for tomorrow, numbers really coming down,
