take a look as flames tear through an abandoned building. a building where homeless people had sought shelter. >> we saw the smoke and everybody just panicked. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. the building a former tv station was abandoned and apparently taken over by transients. the building erupted into flames at around two o -- 2:00

at what used to be the home of kntv. there were some tense moments for firefighters, debora villalon has the story. >> reporter: two firefighters suffered minor burns and heat exhaustion here. take a look here. it's just a charred ruin now. the two story building being fenced off. this was a difficult and dangerous fire fight with the possibility that people were trapped inside. >> we can't dell you whether or not there were people in there. we had a major collapse. >> reporter: firefighters had to pull out everyone though they knew homeless people may have been inside. >> this is a big fire for us. everything has been big about this fire since we showed up. >> reporter: this woman says about she and 30 other people lived in the building but she doesn't think a cooking fire got out of control. like others who fled she says it was a good place to live.

preserve the scene. the fire department definitely wants to hear from anyone who saw the early moments of this fire. reporting live in san jose, debora villalon, ktvu channel 2 news. now to the investigation into yesterday another massive five alarm fire that has firefighters scrambling. last night crews in berkeley raced to put out this fire near interstate 80. it burned for hours destroying a number of businesses causing millions in damage. we get new details tonight from ktvu's christien kafton, he went inside the building to see the damage there firsthand. >> reporter: firefighters are still on scene. this is the building in question. you can get a pretty good look and see how much damage there's inside there. there's so much ash and debris inside that's impossible to put out any small smoldering fires that are going on. so they're waiting for fires to put themselves out. firefighters say they don't want to go inside that building

until it's absolutely necessary because what's left of the roof could collapse at any time. from the rooftop you can see how the fire burned through and gutted several of the ten in -- tenants of the warehouse. last night the fire raced through the building. >> they shorted a power line to drop across our battalion chief's car and danced in the middle of street. >> reporter: despite losing $1 million in inventory, a 4.6- foot wall helped save their workshop. the owners say they're hoping to reopen by midweek. others weren't so lucky.

yesterday. it's available on our video player. authorities at l.a.x. says he became belligerent at the security gate when he was randomly selected at the gate. this is video from tmz. the team's general manager released a statement saying we're disappointed on hearing the incident about aldon smith. the linebacker was arrested on a drunk driving charge back in 2012 and illegal weapons possession last year. prosecutors held a status hearing in san jose on friday for both of those cases. smith previously placed a not guilty plea to all the charges. the parents of a man shot by san francisco police say they will place a claim against

authorities. nieto was shot and killed. police were responding to a 911 call about a man with a gun inside the park and said when they asked nieto to show his hand he drew a taser. officers fired when they saw what they called black weapon. the results of an autopsy on the hiker who's body was found yesterday may be available as soon as tomorrow. 23-year-old magdalena gronkowski had been missing. it was found in a ravine after a hiker recalls seeing a woman with her same description. and the ntsb said that

there's no evidence that a fed ex truck was on fire before the crash. >> there's no evidence of preimpact fire located at the accident scene. on the median or on the highway. >> reporter: the ntsb is carefully locating at both tkraoáefrs final hours including cell phone records to find any signs of fatigue or distraction. investigators are also trying to find out if the bus passengers were asked to wear seat belts. we'll have more on the victim's families as they try to make sense of this tragedy. australian authorities announced they plan to deploy an underwater vehicle it's called the blue fin 21 in the southern indian ocean as soon as possible. they say it will begin exploring the sea for where pings were detected last week. however the news came with a caveat. >> i would caution you against raising hopes that the

deployment of the atonomous underwater vehicle will result in the detection of the aircraft wreckage. it may not. however this is the best lead we have and it must be pursued. >> in addition an oil slick was discovered today in the area where the pings are believed to have been initialized. there are reports of more problems on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. including rust. the sacramento bee says rust has been found on steel trans and rods that connect to the lone suspension cable that wraps around the bridge. the paper describes independent engineers as being alarmed at the discovery. the chamber is supposed to keep out water in the salty marine air. officials say there's no

concern about corrosion. the designer of the span reportedly warned caltrans that some welds could crack. sections of the deck made in china did not fit precisely together once they were delivered here. the san francisco chronicle reports caltrans allows crews to meet lower safety standards to weld those sections together. while design engineers were not worried about a catastrophic failure they were concerned about quake damage and frequently of repairs. caltrans told the chronicle that the risk of cracking is remove. loved one waited for the straton. crews disrupted the sales of more than 4,700 pounds of cocaine.

along with it ismael's told me in spanish a part of her died too. 10 lives lost and so many others changed forever. >> a part of me has left with him. i don't know what to do. >> that was gigi graciette reporting for us. the fed ex driver who died in the crash was from the sacramento area. tim evans lived in the bay area, he is survived by his wife and daughter. we put the latest information on that deadly cash crash. that includes today's updates from the ntsb. just look under hot topics. a man tried to open a plane door in mid-flight. a sacramento based television producer was on board today's flight and took video of the man being removed from the plane in omaha nebraska. witnesses say they heard screaming from the back of the plane while it was on its way from chicago to sacramento. producers saw what the man was

think about sandy hook thinking about this. these really young children, i was really scared. >> reporter: two of the victims were a 14-year-old boy and his grandfather. third person killed was a female. a rabbi said if shooter asked people if they were jewish but they opened fire. the shooting comes a day before the jewish celebration of pass over begins. the jewish center in the bay area says they have taken precautions after the incident. -- she is charged with six murders because one of the babies was stillborn. her husband used to live in the home with her now estranged husband but he apparently lived some time away from the home

while he was in prison. a family member found the first baby while cleaning out the garage. she says she birthed the children within 10 years. open enrollment through the state's insurance exchange ends tuesday. that deadline was extended to march 31st. the next open enrollment period begins this fall. meantime outgoing health and human services kathleen sebelius admitted that the federal website performed badly at first. >> the launch of the website was terribly flawed and terribly difficult. the good news was that we said it would be fixed in eight week. it was fixed in eight weeks. >> sebelius resigned friday. she says the obama administration reached its target of 7.5 billion sign ups and that americans are better off with a more competitive

a massive fire in chile forces thousands from their homes. 16 people were killed in the fire but now say one family was mistakingly counted twice. the fire started yesterday in the hills above the town and the wind driven flames quickly spread. about 100 homes have been destroyed and the chilean government has sent people out of area to prevent looting.

much when i cross the finish line. >> reporter: it's the human race coming together. hundreds of people from the bay area have qualified to run this year's boston marathon. >> reporter: noelle walker, ktvu news. pleasanton police have reported an arrest in the stabbing of a fast food worker this morning. they say they received a panic alarm from the jack-in-the-box. they found male employees stabbed several times in the back of the neck. witnessed identified the suspect as jasmine vasquez. they arrested vasquez around five clock -- five -- 5:00 this evening at a relative's home. the los angeles times confirm that is the fbi and department of justice are investigating the company herbal life. the investigation has not resulted in arrests at this

point. herbal life says it does not know of a criminal probe. but the l.a. company has admitted that the securities and exchange commission is looking at its business. shares of herbal life fell friday by 14%. google is gearing up to get its glass out to users. anyone who wants to buy one will be able to buy a pair for $1,600. supply is limited and it's not clear how many are available. so far more than 10,000 people have them but they've only been sold to developers, contest winners and other invitees. twitter appears to have a huge number of users who have done rig more than just sign on. according to top charts, 45% of twitter users have never even tweeted. another 30% have sent between one and 10 tweets while 13% have tweeted more than 100 times. twitter says it has about 214

patchy clouds. probably just a few clouds. always an exciting event before an eclipse. the earth shadow casted on the moon that's our eclipse. that's monday night into tuesday evening. here is our time line as you can see the eclipse starts at 11:00. 10:58, totality just after midnight. that will be lasting 78 minutes with the totality of that. as far as the forecast, here's the forecast for tomorrow night. we are not completely clear. some of the fog hugging at least parts of the forecast. we're watching out for that. hopefully the clouds move in after the eclipse because that always is a beautiful sight. tomorrow we'll be watching out for that. as far as the fog, here's the latest. fog just offshore. a few patches already sneaking into the bay. also fog out toward monterey bay as well. a closer look at the overcast

closer to half-moon bay. this will increase in coverage over the next four to eight hours out there. as far as temperatures from the afternoon. they range from the lower 60s in pacifica. lots of 70s around the bay for santa rosa, oakland, san jose 75. a few 80s to report out toward livermore and antioch. a good five to 10 degrees over yesterday's highs. today we do have this partly cloudy skies. some coastal fog. here is a live camera looking out toward the bridge. a moon out there and mars showing up nicely near the bridge. if you look up you see it's out there with mars. mostly sunny skies and the extended forecast, a sun cloud mix and it will be dry. no real storms to talk about in the long range. overnight lows to start out your sunday morning. lots of 40s out there with santa rosa, napa, san francisco 51 and san jose 50 degrees. high pressure returned today. a little bit more of a northernly wind. that was responsible for the warm up. not a big change for tomorrow.

temperatures inland tomorrow near 80 degrees. around the bay the 70s and the beaches in the mid-60s. fog in the morning. breaking up into the afternoon hours. by tuesday. there's a weather system moving in from the north. it's going to shave off a few degrees on tuesday and wednesday as we increase the low clouds out there. the fog is regrouping overnight. here we are at 7:00. pushing back into the bay. then we could have a few left over patches. the yellows 70s. warmest locations inland. right around 80 degrees tomorrow afternoon. oakland 72. a string of lower 80s out toward livermore. brentwood and antioch. san jose in the upper 70s. lower 60s toward pacifica and daly city. here's your look ahead. a little bit cooler for tuesday. no major changes for wednesday, thursday or friday. a little bit cooler, a little bit warmer. and the weekends we're still tracking 60s and 70s. it would be nice to add some
