emergency respondsers rush to a bay area home after frantic calls of a little baby in the water. the efforts to try to get that child to safety. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken yne. on this mother's day a concord family deals with a frightening life of death ordeal after their young child was pulled from their backyard swimming pool. ktvu's debora villalon joins us live from concord with the efforts to rescue that infant.

>> reporter: this was a 1-year- old boy who was revived and we're told is in stable condition right now. take a look at video from about 90 minutes ago of the baby being put into an ambulance to be transferred to children's hospital in oakland. there was a helicopter on stand by to air lift him but the decision was made to take him and his mother by ground. this transfer came after the boy had been revived and stabilized which took a few hours. the actual 911 call came in about 6:15 that an infant had drowned in a backyard pool. concord police arrived to find the boy lifeless and family members trying frankicly to find him. those officers took over cpr until fire paramedics got there. they rushed to a near by park where a medivac met them and he ended up going to john concord campus with a police escort that time. all of this very traumatic very

everyone in the cul-de-sac where this family lives. but the outcome tonight not as bleak as first thought. this is a near drowning. and this 1-year-old boy is in stable condition. debora villalon, ktvu channel 2 news. now to the south bay, and a busy day and busy night for firefighters in san jose. by 4:00 this afternoon, crews there had already responded to nine srepblg tear -- to nine vegetation fires then came the call of a huge fire. here we have six hours later and they remain there in the scene and will be through the night. azmith smith joins us the fire fighting challenges and there were many. >> reporter: yeah there were heather. luckily this wind has died down so firefighters have been able to get a handle on it.

i want to show you what's burning behind me. imagine piles and piles of these woodchips, add the high winds, warm temperatures, dry conditions. all making it difficult for firefighters. what started at woodchips on fire send huge plumes of smoke in south jose. firefighters trying to get ahead of it which is why firefighters started fires below. >> the smoke is very thick. it's going to take us a while to get to the source of the fire. we have some workers on sight they're using bulldozers to push around the material to get us better access to it. >> reporter: to make matters worse, fie fighters had no water at the top of the hill the closest water source a hydrant nearly 2 miles away.

and taking public transportation. officials suggest you do all your athletic activity early in the morning. san jose police are investigating an officer involving shooting that injured a teenage suspect. shortly before midnight. officers spotted a suspected stolen car on storey road and jackson avenue and followed it to mccre ery avenue. the driver rammed two patrol cars after police tried to stop him. one woman feared for her life. >> an officer fired her firearm because she was in fear of her life. >> a passenger who was a juvenile was not hurt. the officer who shot the suspect and her partner are now on routine investigative leave.

authorities are investigating a shooting that left a victim dead. the pilot of a small plane is safe after making an emergency landing in livermore but where he landed put him in handcuffs. he landed around 3:30 in a field belonging to san dian national laboratory. that's a high security area. we want to show you some pictures taken by neighbors shows the pilot being taken away in handcuffs. then you see officers with guns drawn. they searched the plane and found nothing suspicious. after the pilot was released he returned to his home in yuba city and we spoke to him tonight but he declined to comment on tonight's event.

and a long stretch of highway 31 is now closed in sonoma county. the closure began an hour ago between highways 21 and 121 and will last until 5:00 tomorrow morning. tonight is the first of a night stretch closures. the highway is being closed so that crews can pave and do maintenance work. the clippers owners apologized for racist remarks caught on tape for the first time. sterling said i'm a good member of the nba. who made a mistake. the apology comes almost two weeks after the nba banned sterling for remarks to his girlfriend telling her not to

men who drowned was suspended because of high winds. parishioners at a church in davis say they are shocked and heartbroken after a popular priest is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl and arrested. police arrested 45-year-old father hector correa on friday. he became involved with a 16- year-old girl last year. father coria has been placed on administrative leave. trial begins in redwood city for a billionaire venture capitalist being sued for access to martin's beach. it was then that the identity of the person who bought the beach was disclosed.

ktvu news. great america played host today to a special day of free fun free on cancer patients and their families. >> as many as 600 kids with cancer and family members enjoyed the day at santa clara amusement park all for mother's day. and everything from admission to food to rides and games they were all free. and designed to give young patients and their families a day away from cancer. >> obviously the cancer is in these people's lives 24 hours a day. what it does is gives them a fun place that they couldn't come to other wise because of the disability of a child. organizers said they had a more successful outcome. a twister leaves destruction. >> the one thing that helped people in the tornadoes path

new information tonight on the deadly hot air balloon accident in virginia that claimed three lives. today authorities found the remains of the third person who was in the balloon when it burst into flames and exploded after hitting a power line friday night. two members of the university of richmond's women's basketball team were killed along with the balloon pilot. the pilot's father said his son was a 66-year-old army veteran who had been piloting balloons for more than 30 years. an early morning crash

killed five people today in san bernardino county among the dead three children. investigators say it appears the van crossed over into the wrong lane hitting a sedan that was stopped at a stoplight. the man driving the van was treated at the scene with injuries. it's not clear why he lost control of that van. tornado sirens gave people in missouri just enough time to run for cover as a huge twister came their way. >> large tornado on the ground causing damage. >> reporter: someone took video of that large tornado as it tore up homes east of kansas city yesterday. the tornado caused a lot of damage to buildings, trees and also power lines. but authorities say there were no injuries or deaths. the tornado was part of a line of storms that rolled through missouri during the evening hours last night. it is a perfect match for a deaf pit bull who's settling into a new home with a very

special family. rosie captures the hearts of volunteers at a shelter in nebraska who thought her sign language. they say she blossomed when she learned how to communicate. then came the best news of all. a woman who was deaf met up with rosie and immediately wanted to take her home. >> i'm going to teach her my sign language. she's my dog. she can pick up that. >> it's what i hoped would eventually happen and she couldn't have gone to a nicer family. >> cindy koch says she understands how rosie feels and always wanted to adopt a deaf dog. people at the adoption center says it was a bittersweet moment. trying to get a head start on the season. >> and you don't have to wait for george lucas to see an amazing star wars exhibit. it's already here in the bay

retriever and a pit mix attacked a neighbor. the dog's owner has decided to put down the dogs and said the owner is doing the right thing. on this mother's day dozens of korean and korean americans marched in the south bay to show their solidarity with the mothers who lost children when that south korean ferry sank. the demonstrators say the government's response was chaotic, negligence and contributed to the high death toll. they accuse the government of censoring the media in the wake of the disaster. the official death toll stands at 275 with 29 people still listed as missing. the majority of those killed were high school students who were on a field trip when that ferry went down. the bay area had already perfect weather for mother's day today. many moms and their families headed out to jack london square along with the traditional brunch, some enjoyed wiffle ball and did

lots of sunshine for all the moms out there today. probably the only complaint the winds. once again those pesky winds around 20 to 25 miles per hour. over the last few hours the winds have been backing up. the warmest locations topped out in the lower 80s out toward fairfield. on the satellite a few high clouds approaching the bay area. here is the wider perspective and mostly clear skies across a good portion of the state. we're expecting lots of sunshine over the next few days. here is our live camera looking out toward san francisco and san francisco in the clear. in fact, it is relatively mild out there with those winds up all afternoon into the evening hours. still holding on to a few more

60s. downtown san francisco 56. here's the headline a big warming trend over the next few days it started today and kicks in monday, tuesday and wednesday. by tuesday and wednesday. that's with temperatures easily back into the 20s. a few locations could be approaching 100 degrees. this is closer to the tuesday and wednesday time frame for most of the area. temperatures are right around the 90s warmest spots will be right around 100 degrees. so definitely try to stay cool. it's going to be a challenge out there and also drink lots of water over the next few days because the warning trend will only be going up. overnight lows, lots of low 50s out there. santa rosa 48, and san jose 52 degrees with mostly clear skies. we'll continue to warm things up for tomorrow easily a good four to 8 degrees over today's highs because this guy, high pressure offshore. building and moving into northern california. the key here is wind direction,
