5:30 pm
>> the former c.e.o. held two events in southern nevada one at the pepper mill and we sat down with her to talk about her chances. >> thank you so much for sitting down with us. let's begin here in nevada unlike the other three early states nevada has a latino population, you have said that you are against the pathway to citizenship for those who came here illegally and that doesn't always play well with the latino vote, how do you go after that community and earn their vote? >> i know a lot of latinos who have done it the right way and stood in line, raised their hand, who took the oath and immigration is an important part of our economy and we condition become a nation where there is no consequence for breaking the rules and there's no reward for playing by the rules and so we have to fix our legal immigration system first and for most because it's not working for this nation. the system of politics isn't working and government isn't working anymore and that's why i'm running.
5:31 pm
nevada put a judge on hold in an education spending account and the child's credit they would get in public school -- >> i'm well familiar with the plan and i think it's a great innovation. >> bush has endorsed it would you like to see a model like that with other states or is that a federal model you'd like to see. >> no, it's not a federal model it ought to be a state model. we've been spending more money on the department of education for 40 years under republicans and democrats and the quality of our education deteriorates which if you are logical, money in the department of education doesn't help the quality of education. what sheep's to give every parent a choice, what helps is a great teacher in front of the classroom and therefore, we need to put more money in the hands of states and communities and give parents more choices. and that is what governor sandoval's program does, it's a great innovation and example of states being lab ra tories of democracy so let's put more
5:32 pm
hands of parents. >> are you concerned at all with the nevada constitutional provision related to e.f.a.s let's say state money cannot be used for secretary an purpose and under e.f.a.'s tuition and private schools including religious schools would be covered, does that concern you at all? >> it does not. first of all, let's face it. religious liberty is under assault in this country and we also know that per parochial schools are a fine education. there are the a lot of people who aren't interested in religion but quality of education. my view is parents should make the decision about how to best educate their child and not some bureaucrats sitting in washington d.c. >> she's lost a lot of her momentum from the first debate and she's lagging in the polls. >> we also asked her about whether president obama should get any credit for the iran deal. >> no, not particularly.
5:33 pm
this iran deal the worse it gets. first of all, of course we heaved a sigh of relief our prayers were answered when our americans came home. secondly, we're all relieved that those sailors were released but this deal is a terrible deal. we have capitulated on everything. and the truth is that iran has provoked us over and over again and there has been no consequence so they've launched two ballistic tests in district violation of the deal they passed, there was no consequence, they showed our sailor's faces and video taped them on their knees with their hands behind their backs tharks is not the action of a friend. it is an action of an adversary and of course, the more we learn the worse it gets so yesterday president barack obama has to go on television and say what's one more things, we owe them $1.7 billion. this is a terrible deal and i will cut a new deal with iran. >> so even though this deal was
5:34 pm
are several other significantatories to it and they have complied to the conditions, you still don't think. >> first of all they haven't complied with what the conditions were but let me say first, you are right, p5 plus one the chinese, russians, europeans signed up for this deal too. let's be clear knows all of these countries and their leaders we just mentioned, russia and china a have never been on our side of the table, they are on their side of the table and they wanted to open the iranian economy for a long time. europeans don't negotiate on our behalf they want the iranian economy home and this is a bad deal and iran will use the hundreds of billions of dollars as a result of this deal to fund the terrorism and nuclear buildup which is not peaceful. russia is in iran's selling selling their nuclear capability and they have put so many constraints around the
5:35 pm
clear what we know. >> again, when you speak of nuclear weapons you talk about north korea doing testing, they say it's a hydrogen bomb we think otherwise but when you look at that this is u.n. action does go far enough as president how would you address that? >> it doesn't. look, we have never had a successful deal to curtail north korea's am missions, bill clinton struck the first deal it didn't work, george bush struck a deal it didn't work. but let's start with the basics, when there's no response to provocation you will get more bad behavior, north dakota attacked sony pictures in a purposeful cyber attack and there was no response. so when there is no response, we're going to get more bad behavior from north korea. when iran watches launches two missiles and there's no response, north north korea says me too. this is what is going on and hillary clinton has gotten every
5:36 pm
and this administration has never responded to a provocation including a purposeful terrorist attack on our embassy in benghazi and when you do not respond, you are going to get more bad behavior and that is why the world is becoming a very dangerous place. >> you campaigned in ira and iowa and here and nevada and the argument have been made that iowa and new ham phampshire, do you think nevada ought to be moved up in the primary process or do you think it should stay in the third position? >> you know, nevada has very important role to play. because it is a very diverse state and because it's representative of so many of the issues but i must say it's also true that iowa and new ham p new hampshire have a cere confidence in vetting candidates and they spend a lot of time doing it.
5:37 pm
politics, you know, think about an issue that americans are wrestling with those issues exist in iowa and new hampshire. drug addiction, poverty, the stagnation of middle-class income and the deterioration and quality of education and crime and gun violence, all those issues ern in america is concerned about and exist in iowa and new hampshire as well. >> thank you very much, we appreciate your time. >> of course you hear hillary clinton's name and george bush and republicans and democrats to blame with education so that's one of the take aways i had was carlie spreading the blame across both sides. >> absolutely. one thing i heard her talk about was how big business and big government partner with each other to crush small competitors and usually you don't hear something like that from someone who has been in the suite of a major company. >> anti terror money battle. >> you can't every year beg for
5:38 pm
>> what she says the department of homeland security is getting all wrong about our city. >> they're not doing that that's the point. >> they shouldn't be they should focus on the basics when the recession hit -- >> it's a terrible way to be. >> a ballot initiative to raise

panel talks about its chances. you know the basic bargain of america is if you work hard, and you do your part, you should be able to get ead and stay ahead. but so many families don't feel like their hard work pays off. that's not the way america is supposed to operate. i want to go to bat for them every single day. get incomes rising... get equal pay for women... cut the cost of health care and child care so people can actually get ahead. hillary clinton, she has what it takes to get things done.
5:40 pm
it took joel silverman years to become a master dog trainer. but only a few commands to master depositing checks at chase atms. technology designed for you. so you can easily master the way you bank. >> a trap proposal leaves also vegas off the list. >> well for the last several years, local and state officials have said las vegas just doesn't get its fair share of anti-terror funding and we talked with dina titus how to fix this. >> you wrote a letter to the secretary of homeland security inviting him to our community here to discuss something called the urban area security initiative grant, to fight
5:41 pm
is nevada not getting enough? what do you think he is going to learn by visiting here that he doesn't already know? >> well every year we made the argument we don't get our share because most of that money is based on pop population and that doesn't take in to account all our visitors on any given day we could have a million people here from all over the country all around the world who don't have any idea how to get around or what to do in the case of an emergency. that money and that formula don't take in to account the military bases around here where people live in las vegas even if they work elsewhere. so every year we argue for more money and we got it up from 1 million to 3 last year but i asked look mr. secretary, come out to las vegas and see for yourself why this formula is inadequate. >> what would you did i think would be a fair number in terms of dollars for us to get. >> i want the formula changed.
5:42 pm
but i would work with our experts, metro, the sheriff's office the state division that oversees this to see what would be adequate but you can't just every year beg for a little bit more money you need to change the formula. >> they would count for nus that formula and they were taking consideration and air force base. >> they would look at our convention business and we've got three or four convention center statered around town that all gets lumped in to one factor in the formula that exists now, it's not factor it's another so just everything about the formula needs to be revisited because we are unique place and we could be a target. >> this is a two-inch sword because on one hand you argue look, las vegas is vulnerable to terrorist attacks and it's a target and we need money to harden that target and if we don't get that money we're in trouble and yet on the other
5:43 pm
toze come here so we're arguing to under cut the marketing to bring people here which says las vegas, are you worried about the inner play between those two. >> i don't want to scare people to not have them come here but it hasn't been in the past and look how many came from new year's eve and a lot of people want to come so i don't want to say don't come here it's a scary place but you have to be practical and prepared and people will respect that and appreciate that. >> the top 25 cities on homeland security list get terror funding, less las vegas was dropped to 29 this year. raising the minimum wage in nevada. >> there's no compromise and it will go on the ballot and it's find and i will do everything i can to defeat it. >> our face-off panel weighs in on the ballot initiative that would do just that next.
5:44 pm
is going to pay for the wall? mexico. 100%. >> donald trump pitches his immigration plan at the south
5:45 pm
stay with us. >> welcome back, this is the race now where we recap the big stories of the week candidate donald trump made a thursday stop at south point hotel and casino. >> they'll make cars and sell them to us no tax just bring them across the bor border, might as well you can have the illegal buy the car because you can get it inexpensively. >> trump spent his time talking about immigration and he called out na nabisco and ford motor company for doing the same thing. trump talked about making mexico pay for the wall and he also promise today blast isis off the face of the earth former presidential bill clinton in town thursday night shopping for
5:46 pm
>> the real issue in this election is who can maximize the positive things that are in this country and in our future. and minimize the problems so they no longer dog the american people. >> bill clinton keep the tone positive highlighting his wife's record. clinton spoke for about 45 minutes. >> >> it's time for face-off and we hear from the last and the rift, joining us now and radio host and adrian a mar martinez for better education today and a campaign manager and this beak's topic a judge up holding a challenge to a ballot initiative that would raise the minimum wage to $13 an hour.
5:47 pm
rather have afirmd the minimum wage ballot initiative to go onto the ballot and i think we might get to a disagreement on this one, do you think it's a good idea? >> absolutely. it will give the public a chance to decipher what they want to do and we have a lot of working men and women in this city that requires that i mean we have to have a minimum livable wage and the raising the mib minimum wage is a good idea. i don't know how much, i also consider the small mom and pop shops that would break so there has to be a compromise. >> there's no compromise and in fact it will go on the ballot and that's mine i'll make sure i can dovering can i to defeat it because it's a dumb idea. in terms of a livable wage, it's not a livable wage and what it's doing is it's taking away jobs that kids can have on school and i mean i had a lot of jobs when
5:48 pm
and if to pay kids in high school out of high school 10, 12, $15, in order to be able to do a job they're not going to higher these people and it will hurt the mom and pops and again people are not going to be quote-unquote lifted out of poverty by a small increase it's going to hurt mom and pops and the cost of services and goods is going to up across the board. >> do you think it's going to pass? >> absolutely not. >> you don't think it will pass? >> i think it has a good chance. now keep in mind you go in to the fast food places and there aren't high school kids like when we were high school kids and we worked at mcdonald's, it's not that. you look at older folks, you look at folks my age and this is what i see, i see may behind the counter so those are single parents who need this job to exist so it's important and it's
5:49 pm
working class families. >> it will provide so little for the people it's not going to help them with a sustainable type of a lively hood and number two the cost burgers and shakes and fries and everything else they're going to go up because they're going to have to compensate for the increased wages which means people will be paying more across the board, everything will go up. >> it's not enough to be sustainable. some of these folks are living off that alone and they're sustaining themselves in a very horrible way because they don't have enough money to go to a concert or enough money for all of the extras. >> they shouldn't be going to the concerts and the basics are the things they should be doing. >> they're not doing that that's the point. >> they shouldn't be, they should focus on the basics when the recession really hit. >> that's a terrible way to be, this is america, should you have that. >> we'll give free tickets to concerts now.
