with the latest on that. good morning, don. >> reporter: good morning. meeting in geneva yesterday, the u.n. health agency made clear its concerns that warns if not contained, there could be 4 million cases of the zika virus over the next year. >> it is now spreading explosively. as of today, cases have been reported in 23 countries and territories in the region. the level of alarm is extremely high. >> reporter: the zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and may cause birth defects. until last year when the virus was discovered in brazil, it had not been a threat to the western hemisphere. >> you have multiple countries in south america and in the caribbeans, so by anybody's definition, that would be considered a pandemic. >> reporter: so far, the disease has not spread in the u.s. and officials here say, for now, americans who do not travel

least 31 americans who have been to the caribbean or latin america have been infected. it is such a concern in el salvador they are advising women not to become pregnant until 2018 and even more concern this year where the olympic games will be held in rio de janeiro. for now no treatment or vaccine, but scientists in the u.s. and canada say a vaccine could be available for emergency use by the end of the year. >> that would certainly be good news. don champion here in new york, thanks a lot, don. three dangerous inmates who escaped from a california jail remain on the run, but a teacher who allegedly helped them escape is now under arrest. nooshafarrin ravaghi taught english at the orange county jail. officials say she developed a relationship with nayeri, the alleged mastermind of the escape. >> there is no confirmation that she brought tools into the jail.

the tools, but what we do know is that she provided google maps, those type of things, to prepare for the escape. >> the three inmates broke out of jail a week ago. so far, there have been ten arrests in connection with the escape. ethan couch, the american teenager who used a so-called affluenza defense, is due to appear in a texas court today. couch arrived in ft. worth yesterday from mexico where he and his mother had fled in december. couch was on probation following a drunken driving conviction. four people were killed in that crash. coming up on the morning news now, disturbing allegations in the flint water crisis. state workers may have gotten help a year before residents, as contaminated water flowed from the tap. this is the "cbs morning news." let's review: heat, plus relief, plus healing, equals thermacare.

flint residents who were worried about lead contamination. the site says leaked e-mails show government employees were quietly provided water in coolers last january and that was the same time the residents were told that their tap water was safe. courier-post say the navy is taking responsibility for booms that were felt on thursday. people up and down the jersey shore and as far as away as new york's long island felt the boom thursday. some callers to 911 thought they were earthquakes. >> it was scary. you hear noises and not know what is going on. >> the house was shaking. >> the navy says fighter jets were conducting routine tests over the atlantic. the booms are caused when the jets break the sound barrier. still to come, barbie gets a makeover. the doll is now available in different shapes and skin tones, but not everyone is happy.

physique being unattainable and being a false image for young girls. barbie is now available in three new body types -- kendall, kylie and chloe, i think. on the cbs "moneywatch," critics are shaming the new barbie and shares of amazon take a hit. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> reporter: good morning. the price of oil rose for the third day in a row, that sent stocks on wall street higher. the dow gained 125 points and s&p picked up 10 and nasdaq rose 38. disappointing fourth quarter results sent shares of e-commerce giant amazon into a tailspin. they fell in 14% in after hours trading. amazon made a huge profit during the holiday shopping season but less than analysts expected, in part, because shipping costs were so high. so far this year, amazon shares have lost 6% of their value. new york's attorney general says sales of concert and sporting events tickets are rigged. a just released report found that more than half of the tickets many events are likely

otherwise, unavailable to the public. third-party brokers resell those tickets on sites like stubhub at average margins of 49% above face value! and sometimes more than ten times the price. a former google employee found a glitch that allowed him to buy the google.com domain. he owned it for about a minute. he realized because of an online error, google.com was available. he paid $12 on his credit card. he was notified that he owned the domain. he quickly got a cancellation order. google gave him 6,006.13 for a reward. the reward was later doubled because he was donating that money to charity. not everyone is happy with barbie's new look. mattel announced yesterday that barbie has three new body types, curvy, tall, and petite and seven skin tones and 24 hairstyles. this follows years of criticism of her unrealistic body types,

the world health organization will hold a special session monday to decide whether to declare the spread of the zika virus a public health emergency. the u.n. agency says the virus is spreading explosively and there could be 4 million cases in the next year. front-runner donald trump made good on his word to boycott last night's republican debate. instead, trump attended an event to raise money for veterans. trump was mocked at the debate by his opponents. the iowa caucuses are just four days away. well, before tonight's republican debate "face the nation" moderator john dickerson dropped by the late show with stephen colbert. he was asked if trump's antics have any chance of paying off. >> just very quickly. do you think trump hurt himself or helped himself by saying, bye-bye, i'm not showing up for your debate? >> we will know when they start voting. i think, though, he is running a campaign on strength, and he has all of hi opponents to bite on that territory and this is about him showing strength and
