5:30 pm
this special post debate edition of politics now. >> let's get right in to this joining us for this show our radio host alan stock and executive direct your worship annette magnus and fernando romero and they have the field narrowed down to six candidates they began by commenting on a developing topics. supreme court justice died at the age of 79 during a visit to texas. he was the longest service justice that put the spotlight on an issue that was not widely addressed in this campaign and nom initing supreme court justices, he was a launch originalalist in a conservative as a justice and probably the most provocative member of the high court. here is what tet cruz said. >> we're not going to give up the u.s. supreme court by allowing obama to make one more liberal a point tee.
5:31 pm
tonight so let's start the discussion with justices. >> let's start the discussion over justice. the question do you think he is right should obama wait to do an appointment? we'll start with you? >> personally i would like to see him wait and i would hope whoa wait. we've had a discussion about this in the studio during the debate and before the president has the right to nominate anyone he wants to at any point. the senate does the confirmation and they can row jekt or accept it. i don't think that the president this president, is going to nominate a person to pass the 60-vote threshold and that's what we'll see is a battle over the next several months. right. it is right and i think he should do it and take his
5:32 pm
definitely beyond a doubt he has favorable candidates in mind he can name? >> what do you think? >> i think he should absolutely exercise his right and i was going through twitter during the debate and there was a video i found of ronald regan doing the exact same thing he nominated kennedy before an election and president obama has that right to nominate someone and he absolutely should do that. justice condition wait for the senate to get their act and they've been oxist on federal courts for a long time now and we need to a point someone so we can hear these important case that's about to come up over the next six months. >> it's whether or not he will get 60 votes and yes he can nominate anyone that he choses to nominate absolutely the case butat the senate will look at this with a sure yews eye and we've seen the democrats went ahead with harry reid and obama and the rest of them and they changed the way we nominate appellate judges down to a
5:33 pm
that is certainly something that now is going to come back and bite the democrats because they wouldn't rollover with 60 votes. >> let me ask this, the immediately after the death of justice announced mitch maconal was saying this president should wait and do a sight unseen. we do know, he could nominate everybody loves and he could nominate a liberal judge and run in to trouble in the senate but shouldn't we wait to find out before we declear this president should not do it? >> no, again, he can go ahead and do it. if i were him i would wait because he won't get anything through that's a liberal judge. >> are you not pre judging what is going on? >> i like this this guy and the last seven years in office and his history and the books he has written and the life he came from and people who are his mentors he is a far left-wing socialist and he is going to a
5:34 pm
winger and he is not going to -- >> youu' can say it's likely he might do that and you might say for sure. >> the two people the appointments and that voted left wing on every single issue and left wing on every issue what makes you think he will change. >> i think he voted and they have voted and take ep his side ander not as left wing as perhaps you may want to make them be. >> they're disappointed. >> every single one and give me one vote that voted one. >> i don't think so being pro -- >> one that was middle or conservative. >> i don't think being pro human being and being pro family and pro want to go make sure that justice is served for people and they're not ruling against people because they have a buy as personally and i don't think it's the left wing extremist and
5:35 pm
thought mr. maconal did was cal beat. as soon as he found out scolia passed away he put out a statement weern going to nominate anything and why not let a day and let us process what happened and ies just think it was the wrong time to do it. >> politics come again and there was plenty of arguments over some of these other issues patrick, what's next on the rub down here? >> well perhaps its deja vu all over again, trump continuing his attack on jeb bush and how to deal with isis and over all the middle-east. >> jeb is so wrong, obviously
5:36 pm
mistake and talking about iraq and how does jeb look in this back and fourth it's continuingw after nine debates. >> absolutely. the answer trump was right -- i'm kidding. i'm not here to answer these questions. what do you think? first of all who is right on that? i was surprised to right see gone ald trump say george w. bush lied about eye scprak should have been impeached. that's shocked me. did it shock you? >> it didn't shock me coming from him. this was like watching kids in a playground arguing about was it a slam dunk or wasn't it and it's very bother some to me to know there's a person running
5:37 pm
country who has that approach that any time that we've all agreed to that is amazing about donald trump more than anything at all is this guy has more teflon than anyone i've seen. i knew bill clinton had testify ron. he could say anything and lie to the people. and he had teflon but nothing paramedic compared to what donald trump has. >> what do you think?
5:38 pm
actually agreed with donald trump on something. i agree we never should have been in iraq, and i agree that you know there was no weapons of mass destruction there and i agree gob should have been impeached for all that. i fwrooe with donald trump which is surprising for me. however the exchange between him and jeb or cruz and rub row i think is incredibly juvenile and i feel like they're just dumbing down politics. they're dumbing down our democracy and i don't think it's healthy for the republican aert. i think that kind of debate and that level of debate is just uncalled for. >> but you know two things, one, we're not going to get to this by debateing about weapons of mass destruction again. but saddam hussein wanted us to believe that they were are the there because he

that were win of b flores: i was raised by my father. my mother left my family when i was 9 years old. things really went from bad to worse for me. this isn't just about numbers, this is about real lives. this is a system that isn't working for the everyday person. it's one of the reasons why i decided to endorse bernie sanders.

narrator: for speaking truth to power in china... women's rights are human rights. narrator: and having the fortitude to keep government out of women's personal healthcare decisions. planned parenthood action fund endorses hillary clinton. just like the league of conservation voters for her bold plan to attack climate change. and the human rights campaign fund... because hillary believes only love should decide which two people can marry. not just a progressive. a progressive who gets results. i'm hillary clinton, and i approve this message. >> welcome back to "politics now." >> welcome back, immigration has been front and centre today. john kasich came out as the more mod are the of the group.
5:42 pm
today? >> let's start there. of all the plans john kasich, very moderate but george -- i'm sorry, jeb bush also had a fairly moderate plan. so who came out on top? er if than do? >> i thought rubio came out on top but kasich is all supportive and governor of ohio, he is daning the right way. he's proven he wants to do it and best of all, he's proven that it can be done. obviously trump and ted cruz are very negative in their aspect and they're not being sensitized by anybody. and they are not sensitive at all to the issue of just throwing out 12 million people from this country without taking regard anything else. contributions, et cetera that the immigrants have
5:43 pm
>> just a quick follow-up before we get to another panelist, you mentioned rubio you thought he did the best. seems to me when he talks about his plan, that he is sim pa netic to the people who are already here and finding a solution to the deal with them. that it doesn't involve deportations. but he tiptoes around it. >> i think he tiptoes because of the abuse the if you will that came from his own republican cohorts. if you stop and think this his contribution to the gang of eight were very valued and good, and he contributed to what's accepted in the past because it did pass. someone said that the bill did not pass. it did pass, unfortunately it only passed. >> but that was his contribution. >> alan, what do you think. >> rubio said clearly that we should not be rewarding people who break the law. he said that very, very clearly tonight. and we all heard him say that. and we should not be
5:44 pm
are we going to take 11.5 million people and send them out? the chance are probably not. eisenhower had a plan and got rid of hundreds of thousands as a matter of fact millions of illegals back in the early 50s. and worked back then and should we be deporting people who are criminals? yes. should we up the borders? yes. i think rubio came across well, problem with trump not cruz, he says things in a way to attract headlines to make people feel like you know, they've got to react to him. so. >> all right, we've got more coming up. let's find out from papa trick. what's next for us some. >> next we'll talk about the economy, and tax plans including whos they're one of the wall street banks that triggered the financial meltdown -- goldman sachs. just settled with authorities r their part in the crisis that put seven million out of work

5:47 pm
tonight. >> i'm going to have a tax plan that is pro family because the family is the most important institution in society. >> rubio hit on the family angle and there were differences including ted cruz pitching what is close to a flat tax, so the question on this part, who comes out on top and is it donald trump? >> it's a good question. and let's start with you. of all the tax plans, ted cruz, that's 15% kind of surprised me . but what do you think? whose tax plan has the most chance of appealing to the broad middle? >> that's a great question, steve. and i wish i knew the answer to that. when i was listening to these folks tonight, they were all over the place frankly on this particular issue. and specifically i felt like cruz, he wants to just get rid of all the taxes. let's just get rid of all the taxes. but there's never an answer. how are we going to pay for
5:48 pm
how are we going to to have a great society? how are we going to have great citiess if we just do away with all the taxs? i mean that sounds like utopia but it's just not going to work. so i want to see real specifics because they will ask them these questions about taxes is say the typical republican talking point and then they stop talking. and the moderator tried to get more out of them and he was pushing them and it wasn't coming out. so i want more. >> alan seals to have found his tax plan. >> well you know, i said the great society. started. that's when we went to hell in a handbasket. that's when we started to say to people, if there's no man in a house we will pay you more for each child you have as long as the man stays out of the house. i'm not so sure about all these taxes and the government doing it for us. flat tax, yes, getting rid of waste and all the other problems, absolutely right. i also was a little bit amazed that trump was
5:49 pm
going to you know fix the economy and bring businesses back. but when he was asked specifically about how he was going to pay for the sff he never quite had the answer. but again, he's got teflon. so he comes off looking good. >> he never answers any question properly. and with any deep support. but i kind of appreciated what rubio was saying that it's got to be friendly to the family. and of course if the family has money in their pocket, they're going to spend. and spending obviously the economy is going to grow. and it's unfortunate where we have these debates where they're giving with one minute to answer a question. >> i agree. >> but i would like to know, go deeper into that. let me find out more. however what he did say was very interesting. >> i have a problem with marco rub yi's plan, actually. i have a problem with the way he started this whole thing. this pro family tax plan.
5:50 pm
what about people who can't have children. what can does the family mean to him. it may seem. >> he never defined family. >> on twitter he can defined it all night long. >> that's the one thing that he retweeted. >> can't talk over each other. we're not a republican debate crowd. >> we is still like each other. >> let's find out what we have coming up, patrick? >> patrick: we've been holding this part out but
5:52 pm
we'll talk about who won the narrator: for speaking truth to power in china... women's rights are human rights. narrator: and having the fortitude to keep government out of women's personal healthcare decisions. planned parenthood action fund endorses hillary clinton. just like the league of conservation voters for her bold plan to attack climate change. and the human rights campaign fund... because hillary believes only love should decide which two people can marry. not just a progressive. a progressive who gets results. i'm hillary clinton, and i approve this message. > >> announcer: you're watching "politics now." >> patrick: welcome back, the big question of the night so far, steve, did rubio have a comeback performance here? >> steve: that is a great question who won? start with fernando. >> i think rubio won and he can did come back from that slap in the face he got last
5:53 pm
i think there's some insecurity on immigration, on above at thety, on taxes, we're all right on. and i feel if we did have more time with him he can go more in depth and give a good feeling but what i heard from him i liked him and i liked him on all those issues. >> the format was kind of constraining. who won this one some. >> if there's going to be an honest headline will be rubio redeemed. he came across looking very good. i think the bush didn't look too bad tonight and i think can kasich is taking the kristi votes and owning them, and i think he's going to begin to grow more. he has in the numbers anyway. he's second in the south carolina right now. so, trump somehow is going to be trump doing his thing, but the others are starting you see movement coming on. >> what do you think? >> kasich was the least offenceive, i think.
5:54 pm
was in his robot self tonight, he proved that he was incredibly insensitive on immigration as a latino. and ted cruz the same thing. ted cruz and marco rubio as latinos don't have more compassion for the people dealing with the immigration system in this country. >> no one mentioned dr. carson. if he doesn't do well in south carolina and maybe here in nevada, he's going to have to drop out, right some. >> he said i'm not a politician. i never aspired to be one and he's right. and he's a nice guy and maybe one of these guys will be elected god willing this coming november, maybe he will become the next surgeon of the united states. he probably would be a great one. but nice guy. i've talked to him, but he's not a presidential candidate. i'm sorry, that's how it is. >> steve: so we have the republican caucus coming up on the 23rd.
5:55 pm
is going to win the democratic caucus. who is going to win the republican caucus? fernando no don't be surprised if bernie sanders wins the democrat. >> i love it. >> he's a good man. i think rubio will jump. >> last poll i saw today is that hillary and bernie are tied. it was 45-45. so, i'm agreeing. i think bernie may end up taking it. which will be embarrassing for hillary. on the republican side i think it's going to be somewhere it's going to be between rubio kasich and trump. i know i'm hedging it. >> definitely. >> that's what i see. one of those three because trump still has that teflon, but rubio is rising and kasich has his own constituency. >> i think it's going to be hillary in nevada. i think she's had a very strong can campaign. i think bernie is rising and it will be a close one
5:56 pm
and i think donald trump is going to win. >> wow. trumpmentum. >> even though it seemslike jeb bush. governor bush i'm going to say. seems like he landed a blow on trump and trump with just went in to orbit. >> here's the thing with jeb and we talked about this on an earlier show, and i talked about o'malley getting out of the race. i talked about other people getting out of the race. i think jeb is on the can cusp and i think he's about to leave the race. if he doesn't do well. >> if he does get out i think his votes go to kasich. >> and if he keeps defending his brother as much as he is, he's definitely going to be out. >> steve: i want to thank you guys for lening your perspectives. definitely. back over to our master of ceremonies patrick walker. >> patrick: all right, steve and again also i want to

we'll see you next week. there are those who say we cannot defeat a corrupt political system and fix a rigged economy. but i believe we need to lift our vision above the obstacles in place and look to the american horizon. to a nation where every child can not only dream of going to college, but attend one. where quality healthcare will be a birthright of every citizen. where a good job is not a wish, but a reality. where women receive equal pay and a living wage is paid to all. an america where after a lifetime of labor, there is time for rest and grandchildren. a nation that defends our people and our values, but no longer carries so much of that burden alone. i know we can create that america if we listen to our conscience and our hearts and not to the pundits and the naysayers. i'm bernie sanders. i approve this message,
