. this is the "cbs weekend news." >> ninan: goods evening, i'm reena ninan with the western edition of the broadcast. would the deadly friday night shooting spree in a mall in washington an act of terror. officials are checking into that following the arrest of the suspected gunman. a 20 year old born in turkey. he was captured late last night in the town of oakharbor. tony dome pil has the latest. >> the sheriff lieutenant mike wl the suspect when he says he spotted the real thing. >> i did an abrupt you u-turn, and took the individual into custody. >> the individual was 20 year old arcancetin. born in turkey, now a legal u.s. resident. fbi agent says it's too early to say if it was terrorism. >> i cannot discounted it. >> he was found unarmed carrying a laptop and a leather bag. >> he said nothing. he was kind of zombie like.

show him on a killing spree using a rifle to mow down shoppers. julie was there with her husband joe. >> i heard a boom, boom, boom. that is how hard it sounded. >> it looked like he was a gang-- he was just targeting people. >> reporter: the carnage left five dead, four women and one man. ranging from a 16 year old cancer survivor to a senior citizen. mount vernon police lieutenant. >> i don't know what his va what his motivation was to do this, or to continue. i don't know what his motivation was to stop. >> now authorities are probing his troubled past. a fascination with fire arms. apparent in these myspace photos and a criminal record. including three domestic violence charges. whatever the motive, the mourning continues. here's governor jay inslee. >> i know that there are 7 million pairs of arms that would want to embrace the families in their losses. >> and the suspect was arrested

prayer vigil had begun for his five victims. he is now expected in court tomorrow and that is also the same time as a coroner is expected to identify those victims. reena. >> ninan: thank you, tony. well, a tragic loss for major league baseball. miami marlin ace pitcher jose fernandez has been killed along with two friends in a boating accident off miami. fernandez survived a harrowing journey from the u.s. from cuba to become one of the game's bestment his manager paid tribute to his >> i see such a little boy. and when-- the way he played. when you watch kids play little league, or something like that, that is the joy that jose played with. and the passion he felt about playing. that is what i think about. >> ninan: the marlins cancelled sunday's home game against the atlanta braves. the cause of the accident is under investigation.

>> well, it was a tense football sunday in charlotte, north carolina after police released video of a fatal shooting that has the entire city on edge. errol barnett is there. >> reporter: at the bank of america stadium it was football business as usual for the carolina panthers and the minnesota vikings. outside police in riot gear and national guard troops surrounded the stadium. the city declared sunday's game a quote extraordinary event, fearing protestors would disrupt >> what do we want. >> the chants were mostly upbeat, a stark change from previous days. demonstrators angered by the shooting death of 43 year old on tuesday have taken to the street every night since pressuring the the police department to release footage of the incident. on saturday t did. >> the police chief says officers ordered scott out of his vehicle when they saw him with marijuana and a fire arm.

seen exiting his vehicle and slowly backing away. officers surrounding him shout drop the weapon. then gunshots. body camera footage shows another angle that has no audio until officers are standing over the dying man. it is not clear if scott was holding a gub gun. >> don't shoot him. >> on friday the family released cell phone footage of the shooting they say was recorded by scott's wife. >> did you shoot him? >> the police chief says the department's footage along with evidence from the scene prove scott was an eminent threat. police say this is scott's gun, and marijuana blunt. >> is it your expectation that the release of this footage will calm the city of charlotte? >> the footage itself will not create in anyone's mind absolute serntd as to what this case represents and what the outcome should be. >> reporter: scott's family

>> what we do know is that the moment mr. scott is shot, it appears as though he's not aggressively moving towards law enforcement, he is actually doing the opposite. he is passively stepping back. >> reporter: protestors here have pledged to continue their demonstration. the state of emergency remains in effect as does the midnight curfew. reena. >> ninan: errol barnett, thank you. >> terence crutcher has been laid to rest in tulsa. was unarmed when he was shot and killed by a police officer on september 16th. that officer bete shelby has been charged with first degree manslaughter. crutcher's family says they're determined to fet justice. with the election six weeks away, a "washington post" abc news poll out today has hillary clinton and donald trump virtually tied. 46-44% among likely voters. a new cbs poll shows clinton holding her lead in virginia. and colorado. two key battleground state

((mauricio marin)) >> it was a chaotic scene at this strip mall behind me earlier today. metro police were trying to find a shooter who tried hiding within the crowd of people inside a starbucks. police say the suspect went as far as calling in a fake suspect description to 9-1-1 to try and throw off officers arriving to the scene. >> that prompted police to initially treat the incident like a barricade or hostage the immediate threat could be. police shut down warm springs and rainbow and secured the strip mall. we saw people coming out of the coffee shop with their hands up. and captured video of the victim being taken to the hospital where he later died. witnesses in the area tell us they saw the commotion and saw a frantic employee running out of starbucks after hearing shots fired.
