big emoments that happened during the debate tonight we will get into some vof them we check in again we will send it back over to you in studio. speaking we will get back to you and those results but in the meantime we have somebody standing by. >> reporter: date and christianne klein we talk to catherine cortez masto. we're now joined by doctor joe heck but i will ask you the same nkquestion i asked her. do you think debate? >> rep. heck: i am not sure about that but i was looking your coverage and many in the focus group that i want so i was glad about that. >> reporter: when you talk about you and the difference between you and catherine cortez masto what you think the big differences? >> rep. heck: i have real-world experience to the issues that matter to nevadans. we traveled around the state as what is most important job, security, national security, i have been a business owner and served for 26 years.
8:09 pm
on education i have been to an education and served on the education. i have had three kids that are gone through clark county, and gone to three separate colleges here in nevada. i've been able to identify the problem, come up with a solution and get that bill passed in a bipartisan way and he divided congress. >> reporter: there were several allegations when it came to the government shutdown for example. what is your response to to imply we voted to shut down or was never a vote to shut down the government. i voted repeatedly to put the government back on full tilt. we voted to make sure everyone who made up lost pay due to that temporary shutdown got their full pay.look, we don't want to shut down the government. it is unfortunate the instruction is from harry reid and those in the senate, it was
8:10 pm
i would expect the same type of behavior from her in washington d.c. >> reporter: i mentioned before this is a huge debate for many residents in nevada. this is the first time seeing you and catherine cortez masto out of the aspen what are you hoping voters took away tonight? >> rep. heck: they were able to see side-by-side who is better experienced, better prepared, and who wants to go to washington to work for them on iss t most part i think after tonight, hopefully i will be able to earn their boat again on issues was critical to them i have lived in them, worked in the entire professional career. and been successful in getting legislation passed in washington to address those issues. >> reporter: thank you so much for joining us for that is all we have for right snow we will send it back to you in studio. >> christianne: thank you. we have heard annfrom both candidates we have also heard

it welcome back to our lives postdebate show for tonight senate debate. you are now looking at a life look at canyon springs high school >> chrisne one and only debate they have agreed to. this was their napfat chance to square off and see how they would go under pressure. >> reporter: joining me to help break down the sodebate are battle born annette magnus and ellen stock. this was pretty spirited, a lot of meat on the bones. i guess i could guess how you

allen? >> male: the panel most of them agree with me he won 75-25. she went on the attack tried to go on the attack and didn't quite work. because when they said raise your hand if you would be for voting for the government shutdown he said they wouldn't do it then she tried to say he didn't vote for it, he never did vote for it. i think her ego was defense for most, not all but most of the debate.>> i think catherine run:1. she was calm he seemed nervous he was fidgeting with his band the entire time. blinking incessantly i think she was more points and she did much better. i think her answers were more substantive and he has been in washington d.c. he is my congressman. when i think about his record i have a real problem with his

other than shut down the government. and i did research during the debate. 16 times he said i am not going to do anything, i am not going to negotiate with the democrats on these bills to restart the government again. and he said, he was quoted in the sun october 9, 2013 that he was sticking to his guns on the government shutdown. >> male: whether there is a down.ti >> male: he never voted on it. >> reporter: one of the heated exchanges was on immigration let's take an excerpt of that exchange. >> female: we have 21st century technology whether it is drones, satellites, the technology we can use now can help us address of the border issue. we have put funding into the issue for bodies and resources and we want to continue to do so.

legal system we will continue to have the problems we face today. the fact is when somebody comes through that the key channels of because a permanent channel or get citizenship they shouldn't have to wait 10-12 years to bring their spouse or family over. let's talk about fixing the legal immigration system as well. let's develop a robust guestworker that meets the end demand here in the united states while not disenfranchising unemployed americans. >> reporter: what did about exchange? >> female: this is an issue i have a problem with joe heck but his immigration stance is abysmal he has done nothing to address the problem in washington. he came up with a safe cockamamie else that would've addressed one piece of it and it went nowhere. he never did anything with it. he promised are dreamers here in las vegas a whole slew of policy solutions and never took action on them. actually voted the opposite way several times so these are the

heck because he says one things and did another. >> male: the lines got blurts there is little bit. >> male: she was nervous she did not look comfortable. but certainly in that she didn't look comfortable at all. he is poised, he has been a congressman he does have to be able to talk about the issues that have been facing the representatives in dc. he did talk specifically about the points he would like to put across and she was vague about it. so on that point alone to me that is a 90-10 in hiav automatically. >> reporter: didn't hear anything about the wall. >> male: not at all. although they will build part of a wall with the whole thing is not based.>> female: i don't think he wants to touch donald while at this point. he has disavowed his loyalty to mr. job at this point. >> male: and that is what he has tried to stay away from the whole trump thing. i think that could have heard them but after his performance tonight band say it is a win fo him. >> k wreporter: he is an emerge

a surgeon to separate himself. back to you we will be around all this our. >> christianne: thank you, guys. you heard the panel. of course we of patrick walker city by you sitting with a panel of 14 nevada voters. patrick stepped out to the voters.) >> reporter: we had some pretty memorable moments we have been monitoring our focus groups. we saw that most of us will spice of opinion when we talked about gun violence and not answering questions. so moment when both candidates talked about gun violence. >> female: make sure we pass a law so that those on no-fly list or no terrorists can buy a gun. congressman heck of posted he wouldn't even vote for that to reduce gun violence in the country. >> male: will we do by trying to pass this legislation has been a band-aid on it without introducing the root cause for the second mental health in the state and this country to provide resources to those

the numbers on the screen republicans and democrats generally split. during catherine cortez masto answer and joe heck all of the numbers were relatively high. with joe heck i want to ask you do you have doing better with the gun control question one debate? >> male: absolutely had to go with ms. cortez masto she is at least in favor of the bill. typical of republicans want to put it up on something else and not go for action. i want to see action something needs to che. in my lifetime it has gone from gun violence not being a big deal and a rare occurrence. now i see gun violence everyday and he to see that.i think any action is good action at this point. >> reporter: doug how did you score the gun debate? >> male: i was a joe heck. i think she was a little too cut and dry with the issue maybe it could be a good idea to vote on one when joe heck had a complex understanding of it may be understood and more. i thought it was respectable
8:21 pm
>> reporter: i want to go back to you heather. how did you feel about both candidates answer the question:?speaker4? heavenly cited with joe heck on this one. any action is better than no action is not a very good statement but i think we need to enforce the laws we have and focus on terminals. as law-abiding citizens do not go to mike law abiding her more law-abiding than police officers and other people that carry gun every day. we take our second amendment rights seriously and it is crimal black market or other gang members but they are the real problem maybe if we enforce the laws we currently have and get rid of gun free zones we would see a reduction in gun violence. >> threporter: we were promisin we would get to the not answering the question portion we will hold that for the next time you come back together and talk. we saw .. an interesting spike there we would like to talk about that. send it back to you in studio.

the lead, catherine cortez masto has a rslight lead of 5.4 percent to joe heck 35 percent for that is just outside the margin of error of four percent. it is the first time we are seeing catherine cortez masto on top. a gnc polling took the full of 600 likely voters for the sake a deeper look driving past for catherine w tocortez masto, is t percent ecwith 30 percent undecided. that was joe heck going for him. catherine cortez masto has a lead in also in clark county but joe heck is ahead 62-36 percent in the rest of the state rural counties. of course we will have a lot more of these bowls in the coming days and on las vegas now.com. let's look at our panel of experts to weigh in on this poll. i need to mention this poll was making monday through wednesday

trump and we have watched those numbers flip. how much is this hurting him? >> male: it is damned if you do down if you don't. do you go with this guy? for him making this decision may have heard him. >> male: i absolutely agree, on monday i did a whole show on it. i said this is not going to farewell with repu having him backslide like this. i supported him, don't misunderstand me but nine out of 10 of my callers, conservatives were saying i am not voting for him. i was, i will not vote for her but i won't vote for him because he should not have taken his support away from trump. he should have shut up he did not have taken his support away. i think he hurt himself. >> the phrase was a point of personal honor or a personal

the clip and get your response. >> rep. heck: as an emergency room doctor i have taken care of too many women who have been the victim of domestic violence or sexual violence but i have had great empathy of anyone who has had such a tragedy.my wife was a victim of domestic abuse and a prior relationship. the decision i made was extremely personal decision. >> female: it is astonishing to me that for eight, nine months he was donald trumps when donald trump was making fun of the disabled, attacking mexicans calling them rapists and murderers, calling women names. >> they both have the same problem they are both tied to the standardbearers. they are both avatars or proxies to candidates who are in the eyes of a big chunk of the electorate equally flawed. >> christianne: but hillary clinton didn't talk about
8:29 pm
so should have joe heck. this looks to a lack of decision-making. he should have known donald trump was toxic from the beginning because he is. the things that come out of donald trump's mouth are disgusting from the disabled, to mexican, that came off the day he started running. we know he has things that come out of his mouth that are disgusting so why did it take this long for joe disavow him? and if he didn't have problems with any of those other things what makes this one the catalyst for him to jump ship? it is because donald trump's campaign is thinking and he wants off the ship just like catherine cortez masto said. >> would it have been better if he does about him from the beginning and struck out on his own? >> male: absolutely not. i think donald trump statements have all been taken out of context. >> female: no.
8:30 pm
know it. >> female: no, i don't know that. >> male: i could go on point by point and put you down on each one of these. i know it and you know it because the mainstream democrat media is definitely in the hit pocket of hillary clinton without a doubt. >> of the ground the genitals? >> male: locker room talk. >> female: this is not locker room talk. >> male: this goes on among men and women both. she talked about the military and how you want to uphold the envy of the honor of the military. w the military. i was in with all the guys i know how guys talk. >> female: did talk about sexual assault? >> will be back after break. with more good stuff. thank george and our analyst. we will go and talk to the moderators of tonight debate when we come back after this
