5:33 pm
those are the questions that the fbi needs to answer and it probably needs to answer relatively quickly, this really could affect the results of the election. >> donald trump did correct one mistake he made on a previous visit here and that's pronouncin correctly. las vegas, nevada. everybody in new york says it the other way. and i did that once and i will never do it again. >> i'll never do it again, believe me he says. the latest poll has this race at a --

here a presidential candidate says because he is famous he can grope any women and they let him do it. that's a textbook definition of sexual assault. >> the e-mail news coming out friday. is this the october, maybe even november surprise? >> i would be surprised if he brought it up at all except to as maybe as many democrats to call on the fbi to information. clinton herself has done that. so at this point anything that really can affect the election results you can consider an october surprise. we've only got nine days to go. >> latino voters account for at least 20%. with tight races up and down the ballot, it is a growing voting

((steve sebelius)) with less than two weeks until the votes are counted... the race for congressional di >>s welcome back to "politics now." >> with less than two weeks until the votes are counted. the race for congress district 3 is turning into a battle. >> both released polls showing their candidate with the lead. we sat down with tarkanian to talk about a host of issues, including and social security. >> this is the congressional race, so if you're elected what's the top thing that your's looking at to get done on capitol hill. >> there's three major things that i see talking with constituents. they want to get our economy going again. we need to get back to having reasonable regulations, we need to have a fair tax system. we need to allow the banking
5:42 pm
people with large amounts of money, they get loans anytime they want. we need to be able to get the banking institution to the people. we need to do a better job protecting our citizens both in the united states and abroad from terrorism and people are upset with washington, d.c., they want to see change and see someone who is going to fight for the middle class. >> when you mentioned that disfunction in washington, we have heard talks about shutting down the government and we have seen instances where that has happened. is there a vote out there that you can take that's ever acceptable to put a halt on the government. >> shutdown the government is one of the last things that could happen. >> we should get there and do our job. get there, negotiate and
5:43 pm
consensus. >> i think both sides are partially responsible if they ever got to that point. >> what is the biggest threat to the u.s. in your opinion, what is the biggest concern? you mentioned terrorism or outside threats and security being one of your top priorities. >> what's the biggest threat in your opinion? trying to get it going in the right direction. >> when you're talking about terrorism, you're talking about taking the lives of innocent people. a lot more severe than maybe having a longer and more significant economy. i think if you look at it, we got to get our economy going full throttle again. we need to protect the citizens of our country. represent the constituent first and foremost and get away from the interest of the special interest groups and the status
5:44 pm
>> are you willing to work for a bipartisan solution? >> i don't believe the democrats want to pass comprehensive immigration reform. they want to use this as a campaign issue every election. if they really wanted to pass it, president obama promised when he first ran for office that he would pass comprehensive immigration reform. he had the house, the senate and democrats. >> i would somebody that would want to see comprehensive immigration reform passed. we need to revise immigration laws. the right way, the legal way to get in here quicker and easier. we need to enforce the laws that we have and then when you come to the 11 million people that are here legally.
5:45 pm
get rid of them and get them out of the country. the people who haven't committed a crime, i think you got to find a legal status where they can stay here legally without being deported. >> would there be any points that you would be willing to compromise if there was a serious bill that came forward to try and accomplish this. >> i don't agree with the senator on very many things. he made a statement that legislation is the art of i'm not going to get everything i want and you got to work on getting the best one possible with what your beliefs are. >> let's look at social security. >> what is your vision ever where social security goes? >> first of all, it is going to go bankrupt in 18 years. i have stated over and over again. the government has made a promise to the workers of this country that when you pay into social security.
5:46 pm
security benefits. anybody close to retiring or on social security. we cannot touch those benefits. we should see a higher cost of living increase, they are getting such a small amount and it is not even close to what the actual inflation rate is. i also would not vote for anything that would increase the cost of people to put in a social security getting close to it. for the younger people that are further away. i think a social security, it is less than it is now. we should tell young kids, look, you're going to live at least 19 years longer than when this bill was passed. we're going to raise the age limit maybe two years or so from what it is now so it gets closer to the life expectancy, i think most reasonable people would agree with that. my opponent is trying to make that a political issue that i

getting social security right now and i have said i would not. >> more from that interview online. include tarkanians thoughts on the background check. we also have our entire interview with his opponent jacky rosen. >> what jumped out at you from that interview and it has been a tight race, who do you think has the advantage? >> i obvio polls that come from campaigns at this point. i know that it is very difficult to poll a congressional district because the population size is so small. it is really difficult to know who is really heading in a race like that. >> the government shutdown has become a thing so to speak. we have been asking the candidates a lot about this.
5:48 pm
that as well. what did you think of the answer there. >> no, i think he gave the absolutely -- the correct answer. you know, he said, look, this should be the last thing that happens. he's totally against government shutdown. they have got to go and do their jobs and negotiate and find some kind of a compromise, and if it actually happens, both parties are at fault. i think that's the perfect answer to this question. and in washington, d.c. has some sense of what tarkanian said there and really works to avoid that kind of thing. it is a disaster. >> he allowed for the possibility that it would happen. >> i would hope that there would be people so committed to making sure that it doesn't happen. look, i'm not quibble, he gave a really good answer on that. >> up next, battling out in a
