results had a surprise encounter with hillary and bill clinton. margot gerster was on a miking trail about 40 miles north of new york city yesterday where the clintons have a home. she said all of a sudden there were the clintons, walking their dogs. she said as soon as she got over the shock, she said hello. >> i told her something along the lines of, you know, all i wanted to do all day yesterday was hug you and tell you how proud i was to bring my daughter and when i told her that she, you know, she seemed very happy and we hugged and just sort of had a nice very pleasant, very casual exchange. >> gerster said it was a special moment and that president clinton took the picture. coming up on the "morning news" bridgegate showdown. new calls to impeach the governor of new jersey. and we remember influential singer leonard cohen. this is the "cbs morning news."

"the washington post" reports that donald trump's lawyers want to delay his fraud case until after his swearing-in. they say the president-elect is too busy to take part in the trump university case. the decision is up to the san diego judge who trump accused of bias because of his mexican heritage. the chicago tribune reports that trump has blocked reporters during the first day of his transition to the white house. he was entirely out of sight wednesday and turned down joli washington meetings yesterday. that breaks a long-standing practice for incoming u.s. presidents. slate says facebook founder doesn't think fake news stories that were spread on the popular site affected the election. mark zuckerberg said voters make their decisions on lived experience. he noted that fabricated stories could be shared by either side. the oregonian reports the submission of a ballot question

election and other issues in saying oregon no longer shares values with the rest of the u.s. they need 1,000 signatures to draft the proposal. the ashbury park press says a new jersey lawmaker wants to impeach chris christie. the democratic senator claims the governor knew all along about bridgegate. a christie spokesman called it ridiculous. two former christie aides were convicted last week of causing the traffic jam to punish a christie foe. and the detroit free press says michigan officials have been ordered to deliver bottled water to some flint residents. a federal judge says any home lacking a working water filter must receive regular deliveries. flint's water became tainted with lead two years ago while the city was under state management. still to come, following in the footsteps at the white house a look ahead to how melania trump will carry on the job of

macy's is considering closing another 50 stores. macy's has already said it's closing 100 stores next year, balls of declining sales. so it's now struck a deal with a private investment firm to consider redeveloping at least 50 more stores. mostly in malls, not controlled by major property owners. macy's reported a third quarter sales drop of 4.2%. the new volkswagen golf will have gesture control. it is an option previously only available on high-end cars. gesture control allows drivers to control the infotainment system with the swipe of a hand, change the radio station, run through the play list without touching a button. it's pretty much a germophobe's dream. and it's veterans day and this is the day the country honors the men and women who served in the armed forces. it's also a time when major retailers like sears and macy's offer big sales on home goods,

here's another look at this morning's top stories. demonstrations, protesting donald trump's election turned violent overnight in portland. police say they escalated into riots, and that eventually anarchists hijacked the anti-trump protests. there were also demonstrations in denver and oakland. and trump met with president yesterday to discuss the transition. they talked for 90 minutes. the president said he'll do whatever he can to help trump succeed. trump called the president a good man. later trump met with speaker of the house paul ryan and senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. well, some people from mexico and central america, who are living here in this country, are deeply worried over the future, their future, under the trump presidency. carter evans has more.

president-elect trump from following through on his campaign threat to deport millions, like yamilex rustriam. >> if i get deported tomorrow, i have nowhere to go. i have nowhere -- i obviously have family but i would feel lost. >> reporter: she's afraid her family will be ripped apart as so many were the last two times the u.s. government forced out immigrants en masse. >> it's a tough feeling not to know the person that is your father. this is my father. >> reporter: former u.s. congressman esteban torres' father was one of an estimated 2 million immigrants who were shipped out of the country as part of a government campaign to save american jobs during the great depression. it was called mexican repatriation. so they just rounded them all up? >> rounded them all up and shipped them back to their home country. >> reporter: just three years old, torres was allowed to stay in the u.s. with his mother, because he was born here.
