i served alongside national guard while i was in the marine corps reserves, so we salute all of our national guard members. thank you. (audience cheering) the next soldier served in the us army, third ranger battalion. his platoon went to somalia in 1993 to assist the un forces in mogadishu, and as all you know, not all of his fellow soldiers came home after one of the army's helicopters was shot down. another seven years. people who haven't served could never know what those 18 hours in mogadishu were like.
