age of 90 .. castro had been in poor health since he nearly died of an intestinal illness about a decade ago. >> 8 news now reporter nia wong joins us in studio with a look at the reaction to castro's passing. nia? ((nia wong)) >> brian and kirsten. today schools and government offices in cuba are closed. but depending on where you go....reactions about the cuban leader are mixed. >> we're told there's going to be an major outpouring today in havana's revolution plaza to pay tribute to fidel castro. it's there were people can sign a book of condolences. planned in the square on tuesday. after fidel took control in 1959...he gained many critics throughout the world and thousands of cubans fled to miami. in little havana...there were different emotions this weekend. more remorseful than reverant. many in miami considered fidel a brutal dictator. now that he's gone...cuban-ame ricans are hopeful for the future. ((kirsten joyce)) >> the school announced they are mutually parting ways with brian polian. he's been with the team for 4 seasons .. and still had one more year left on his initial 5 year contract. polian had a 23-27 overall record and never finished above 500 in the mountain west conference. the wolfpack finished 5 and 7 this season.. polian replaced hall of fame coach chris ault who returned after the 2012 season./// ((brian loftus)) that surprise announcement came just one day after the big rivalry game, in wh unlv 45 to 10. the two went head to head saturday at sam boyd stadium .. this was unlv's second largest submission to the wolf pack in the past 2 decades. the fremont canon now up in reno .. the reno gazette journal posted these photos of the unr seniors painting blue over the rebel red yesterday. the fremont cannon is 46 years old .. and college football's largest and most expensive trophy. it weighs 545 pounds and cost about 10 grand to build.///

((brian loftus)) >> consumer advocate michelle mortensen tells us how a cyber security threat almost cost a man his home. ((bill -- i just want to be let off the merry go round )) ((michelle mortensen)) a merry-go-round. that's how bill marshall describes the cyber security fraud that plagued him for more than a year. in july 2015 ... someone gained access to his checking and home equity account numbers ... and created an online profile for both. something bill says he

((bill: i like my paper statements )) ((michelle mortensen)) but all of a sudden bill's paper statements stopped... and because he didn't use the accounts .. he didn't think it was odd. that's why bill claims he never knew someone took 86 thousand dollars from his home equity line of credit. he discovered it 91 days after the money was taken .. and immediately reported it to his bank expecting to be made whole. but wasn't. ((bill: it was kinda like getting punched in the stomach. )) ((michelle mortensen)) state and federal law report fraud within 60 days to not be liable for the charges. bill reported it 31 days too late. he was on the hook for it all. ((bill: it makes you feel violated .. id' rather have someone break in through my door at least then you have a fighting chance. )) ((michelle mortensen)) bill did fight back as best he could. he turned to metro and the f-b-i ... but for months nothing happend and cases were close. so on a wing and a prayer he turned to 8 on your side ((bill:i was praying every day. ))

turns out all 86 thousand dollars were used by a man in california to buy bars of gold. but even with that evidence ... the bank told me repeatedly ... they weren't going to make any refunds. but then out-of-the-blue ... days after my conversations with the bank p-r team ... everything changed. the bank refunded him every dime stolen from him. ((bill: i owe nothing -- you owe nothing -- my line of credit is back where it was at -- you own this house again -- yes. )) ((michelle mortensen)) why the change of heart? the bank sent me this explanation ... ... and they just chose to write it off. it wasn't much of an answer ... but it was an answer bill was very satisfied with. nighlty lane restrictions are slated to begin tonight along i-15, in both directions, between craig and speedway. it's all for the state's i-15 north widening project. work will take

fidel's brother raul announced fidel's body was cremated on saturday. his ashes will be laid to rest this sunday in santiago. that's the same city fidel launched in revolution back in 1959. >> fidel castro's brother raul has been acting as president for the last decade. even though he's upheld many of fidel's ideologies....we have seen change under him. it's under raul where we've seen relations warm between america and the island nation just 90 miles south of florida. while cuba observes 9 days of -americans are celebrating. the latest u-s census says there are 20-thousand cuban americans in the valley. fidel romero was one of them at the florida cafe cuban bar and grill... watching news of fidel's death this weekend. we spoke to in the valley. some say they're open to traveling to the country. a public rally is scheduled this wednesday in havana's revolution square for those mourning fidel's death. that hang out around the trash cans waiting for a cigarette butt or a half of beer in a cup? looks really bad for the city." mayor carolyn goodman: we're doing our best all the time. the reality is with the buskers and those who are performing, we have a lot of first ammendment rights. we've tried it in years past. this is a problem all over the country. and especially in the west but we're doing our best. we have cleanup all the time but more importantly we have metro staff are on as well. and so it's looking up but i can't tell you everything is going to be perfect but we're working on it all the time. everyone is working so hard. we also have a stand down twice a year at cashman center, where we try to get our homeless placed and get them food, get them back into training, getting them back into a positive life. as you know, we are the second city in the country to have functional zero for our veterans which meant every veteran that wanted a bed and place to be, we had it. of course, we had some that still don't want to ce volunteer staff that's out there all the time working so hard to help the homeless get a life. system. but the reality is i think we're in pretty good shape, the head of the water district has said with our storage and our backup and the adjoining states owe us that we share the colorado river with- that we are in good shape. the building is part of becoming a vibrant, world class city and we have to do it carefully and we have to make sure that the builders and developers are good job. easily. pest control, our health dept certainly a couple of areas i would call, if you don't have pest control, i would make sure you sign up for it. we have traps on our property and we've lived in the same place 40 years now. they come in with the palm trees and the new growth.
