((christianne klein)) >> the nevada state gaming control board reported an 11 percent increase in gaming revenue this october over last year.. bringing in a total statewide of more than 986 million dollars.. while the strip saw a 14 percent increase to just more than 560 million dollars.. some areas like north las vegas and downtown las vegas saw gains year to year of more than 29 percent.. so what's driving this increase... i talked with gaming expert dave schwartz who said an increasn slot holds was a big factor.. and like vegas itself.. much of the win increase just comes down to luck.. ((david g schwartz/ unlv director center for gaminig research : it's not necessarily new people gambling a lot of it is the casinos were luckier this month in october than they were in october 2015.. so the slot machine hold was a lot higher than it was back in 2015 so the casinos kept more money even though there was some more money gambled a lot of was because the casinos kept more money : )) ((christianne klein)) >> mccarran airport also saw
5:08 pm
passengers... that marks it's 6 consecutive month.. mccarran also took in more than 10 percent more international travellers this october over last year... las vegas has been focusing attention on the asian tourist market for several years.. and with the opening of lucky dragon casino and new non-stop flights from beijing slated to begin this week, we are seeing that trend continue.. schwartz said while it's tempting to just look at increased tourism as a major factor, it really just comes down to that slot hold and we shouldn't necessarily look at these numbers as a sign come. ((christianne klein)) >> of course an increase in gaming revenue also means good news for our state coffers.. tax collections were also up- to more than 59 million last month.
