is left out of an invitation... for a birthday gathering. one las vegas mother's acts of kindness makes sure every special -needs child feels included. ((kirsten joyce)) hudson raasveld is a talkative ((kirsten joyce)) but when he was younger his mom heather says he wasn't speaking as early as she would have liked... so she placed him in a school to address that need. heather raasveld/aok recipient my little boy was in a preschool where half the children were typically developing and half the children had challenges.. and i witnessed a mother come in one day and give birthday invitations only to the children that had no challenges.. and it broke my heart. :24 ((kirsten joyce)) so instead of being exclusive.. heather says she planned an inclusive birthday party for
6:22 am
his entire class.. but to the entire valley. we sent out fliers to all the different special- ed classrooms, therapy centers, and doctors offices anyplace we could find.. looking for any children that may be left out:34 ((kirsten joyce)) she called it his inclusion party... and it was a widespread success... a party where everybody gets invited.. the parents they make me want to cry, they followed their children around, taking pictures. many of them , they were overjoyed saying they've never been invited to parties before, outside of their family... :27 ((kirsten joyce)) that was three years ago.. and since then... hudson's birthday party celebrations have grown bigger and better. this year, heather reached out to families with kids who have down syndrome, autism, and those fighting cancer. she advertised the inclusion party with flyers and through local children's online magazine 'macaroni kid". instead of gifts, the family asked for a charitable donation to the baby's bounty non profit. my little boy has more blessings than you could ever imagine, and there are children
6:23 am
through charitable contributions is the best gift i can think of : 59 members of lvmpd and medicwest ambulance came to play with the kids and let them check out the ambulance and police cars/motorcycle. after the big party, and all the children laughing and playing, hudson said to me.. this was the best "five" ever we love what you are doing. you get our aok award, really.. i wasn't expecting this.. i just.. wanted to get the word out to people..do you know how much we can do for the next party, and how many kids we can include wi its very special what you are doing.. thank you... i have to hug you... ((kirsten joyce)) >> heather plans to keep the acts of kindness birthday party tradition going.. with hudson's younger sister as well.

.. just head to las vegas now dot com... click on "sections" in the upper left corner .. and acts of kindness will be under the "community" tab. or send us an email... acts of kindness at las vegas now dot com./// demetria, what's driving people crazy? driving people crazy? demetria obilor chris asks, "wh dorrell and brighton village street? there's still no pedestrian flasher at this intersection. kids cross all the time and traffic never stops for them." several months ago, i reached out to the city of las vegas and asked if the dorrell and brighton village street intersection could be made safer. nothing has happened so far, so i reached out again.
6:25 am
from my understanding... the city says that the funds for the pedestrian flasher were grouped into a citywide pedestrian flasher project funed by federal transportation alternative funds. the funds only became available october 1. thing is, federal funds come with numerous restrictions related to bidding and construction, which would delay construction of this flasher for another six months. because question 5 passed on this last ballot, the city says it can now use that additional gas tax ve the city will use those local funds and its own staff to build the flasher over the next 60 days. if you feel unsafe crossing at dorrell and brighton village, the city recommends you walking down to the shaumber/dorrell or egan crest/dorrell intersections. what's driving you crazy? remember, you can write me at. traffic 8 at las vegas now dot com. we'll be right back.///
