the victim was found dead in this area of the parking lot at the "durango canyon apartments." investigators are relying on witnesses to piece together what happened. but they have an idea what went on moments before the deadly shooting. neighbors told police tuesday night they saw a man and a woman fighting over their child. police say the couple had previously been in a relationship. the argument spilled over to the parking lot of the apartment building. that's when, police say, another man drove up and got involved. at some point, the suspect pulled out a small ((cheyenne osburn heard gunshot: there was like a really loud bang and me and my boyfriend were like what was that? cause the kids were sleeping and it was really quiet. byron bullie saw police investigate deadly shooting: i kinda figured somebody died. it had to have happen because how they cornered it off and everything.)) ((karen castro)) >> the child the man and woman were fighting over was inside a car at the time of a shooting... but was not injured. the suspect was last seen driving away from the apartment complex in a dark-colored sports car, possibly a dodge challenger. police do not know if he lives here.

((paul joncich)) metro police are also investigating another deadly shooting that happened a few hours earlier ... where they say say a father shot and killed his son. police identified the man as he's been booked on one count of murder with a deadly weapon. this happened at an apartment near rainbow and windmill. police were already responding to another call at the complex when they heard gunshots. gardenhire came outside and admitted to the shooting. the victim was in his 20's. no word on a motive for the shooting./// ((christianne klein)) a valleymiddle school teacher who had an affair with a 14 year old student has been sentenced. it's one of a number of recent cases we've seen involving school staff having an inappropriate relationship with

((mauricio marin)) nicole wilfinger a teacher who engaged in inappropriate behavior with a 14 year old student has been senteced to at least two years behind bars. she took full responsibilty but asked the judge for mercy. (( "from the beginning that my lapse in judgement affected so many people and no way make any excuse for my behavior and there's nothing i can say or do that can change what former middle school teacher nicole wilfinger kept a journal of her relationshop according to police reports. everything form first kiss to the first time she had relations with the student. phone records shows she had hundreds of calls between her and the student as well as text messages. the defendant asked for probatiobn but the judge told her that the community entrusted her with their children and she broke it. and good behavior because you're an example to their children." )) prosecutors say although wilfinger was crying in court saying she took responsibilty--- she continued to hit up the students friends through text messages even after she got caught---saying it was the 14 year old responsible for what had happened between them. nevada will be getting a recount in our state's presidential race. the petition was filed by an independent candidate named rocky de la fuente... who received less than 1 percent of the vote. it will be a sample recount... meaning not every ballot will be recounted... and cost him 15-thousand dollars. de la fuente told us it is not about changing the results... instead he wants to make sure every vote is counted as it was cast. he also said he is zeroing in on the silver state because he himself has experienced quote behavior" in the nevada caucus./// ((christianne klein)) president-elect donald trump is getting closer to filling out his cabinet positions. he named wilbur ross, a 79-year-old billionaire to lead the commerce department and steven mnuchin, a former goldman sachs partner to be treasury secretary. mnuchin is expected to play a major role in crafting trump's tax reform plan. the president-elect still needs to select a secretary of state. retired general david petraeus, rudy giuliani and former gop

((kirsten joyce)) but when he was younger his mom heather says he wasn't speaking as early ase so she placed him in a school to address that need. heather raasveld/aok recipient "my little boy was in a preschool where half the children were typically developing and half the children had challenges.. and i witnessed a mother come in one day and give birthday invitations only to the children that had no challenges.. and it broke my heart." ((kirsten joyce)) that was three years ago.. and since then... hudson's birthday party celebrations have grown bigger and better. to families with kids who have down syndrome, autism, and those fighting cancer. she advertised the inclusion party with flyers and through local children's online magazine 'macaroni kid". instead of gifts, the family asked for a charitable donation to the baby's bounty non profit. "my little boy has more blessings than you could ever imagine, and there are children out there less fortunate so having them receive something through charitable contributions is the best gift i can think of." members of lvmpd and medicwest ambulance came to play with the

survived, or not./// ((christianne klein)) sherri papini was found by the side of a major highway on thanksgiving morning. she'd been missing for three weeks. tonight her husband and police are rejecting social media speculation that she was not abducted. investigators are analyzing the clothes sherri papini was wearing when she was found on this northern california highway. (tom bosenko, shasta county sheriff's department) "she was in different clothing than she had been reported missing in.//the eviden contain dna evidence." detectives are now reviewing private security cameras that may have caught papini's abduction. they've served over 20 search warrants on cell phones, cell towers and computers. drivers worried about kids trying to cross the street. demetria obilor reached out to the city to see what's being done about it in today's what's driving you crazy. (( )) demetria obilor: chris asks, "what's the latest on the crosswalk at dorrell and brighton village street? h intersection. kids cross all the time and traffic never stops for them." several months ago, i reached out to the city of las vegas and asked if the dorrell and brighton village street intersection could be made safer. nothing has happened so far, so i reached out again. all of it comes down to funding from my understanding...the city says that the funds for the pedestrian flasher were grouped into a citywide pedestrian flasher project funed by federal transportation
