pressure to run... after house majority leader kevin mccarthy dropped his bid earlier this month. c - b - s news correspondent brook silva - braga is in new york. i came to the conclusion that this is a very dire moment, not just for congress, not just for the republican party, but for our country. the announcement came after ryan spoke to house republicans in a closed-door meeting tuesday setting several conditions for taking the job... he wants to change house rules to make it harder to be removed as speaker and spend much less time fundraising than boehner has. (sot rep. paul ryan/ r-wisconsin) i cannot and i will not give up my family time. i may not be on the road as much as previous speakers but i pledge to make up for it with more time communicating our vision, our message. house oversight committee chairman jason chaffetz is among those already rallying behind

resulting in bodily harm. as part of the plea bargain... williams - mccarthy was sentenced to 25 years in prison. those charges came after her 2 - month - old son leonard died *last* april. leonard's father michael williams was sentenced last month in this case. he also pleaded guilty to child endangerment resulting in bodily harm... and also got a 25 - year sentence. williams - mccarthy was facing up to 85 years in prison if convicted at trial. under this 25 year sentence... she could serve less than half of that time depending on good behavior. jake>> the state of nebraska is taking more steps to end human trafficking in the state. a week after state and local law enforcement agencies were part of an f - b - i raid in omaha that ended with 21 arrests and two trafficked minors rescued from sex slavery... governor pete ricketts announced the state would be splitting money from a federal grant to end human trafficking between different state agencies. most of the grant money will go

((narr-3)) 68 year old william crum says he was reacting to a *spider biting him.... a claim he doubled down on tuesday, even in handcuffs. crum was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. adoption request was filed. jake>> a former canton south dakota pastor is heading to prison for having sex with a minor. tony haglund pled guilty to a charge of felony child abuse... admitting to having sex with a then 15 - year - old girl while pastor at canton lutheran church between january of 20 - 11 and december of 20 - 13. he's now been sentenced to three years in prison... and also has to pay 10 - thousand dollars in restitution to the girl's family. jake>> an iowa teacher is raising moneto buy special ball - chairs for her kindergarten students. kara pulley says she's raised 28 - hundred dollars using the website "donors - choose - dot - org." she thinks hers is the first classroom in her district to use the ball - chairs. pulley says she wanted to use the chairs as a way for her students to get out a little bit of energy. studies show that children who are allowed to move around during the day have better focus... and that can lead to better grades. "kindergarten has been more academic-based than in the past.

we've lost a lot of playtime and so i thought it would be a good way for -- 5 and 6-year-olds have such busy little bodies. i thought it would be a good way to keep their bodies engaged and keep their brains learning." pulley says she's noticed a difference in her students since having the chairs she says they are more engaged and she's even noticed better posture. jake>> bad news from the u - s supreme court for property taxpayers in sioux city... the amount you pay in taxes to fund sioux city schools could be going up. that's because the court ruled a surtax on income made in *other* states is unconstitutional. the money raised by that surtax went to local schools. the des moines register estimates sioux city will lose 282 - thousand dollars in surtax funds thanks to this decision... because a lot of people live in sioux city... but they work and earn income in nebraska or south dakota. we hope to hear from sioux city superintendent doctor paul

plans to deal with this funding loss tonight on siouxland news. jake>> a college in northwest iowa is trying to attract students to its manufacturing program. northwest iowa community college in sheldon held its second annual "manufacturing day" event yesterday... showing off its production welding... advanced welding technology... engineering design... and design technology programs. students were part of tours of the campus' facilities... presentations from companies who hire program graduates... and... they saw displays of the products those companies make. "last year we did manufacturing day in our other building and we kind of found out that we were a little small there so we moved over to the llrc thinking we would have more room and today it's packed in there again. i would speculate that next year we're gonna have to have more footage to host this event." yesterday's event drew more than 100 students interested in learning more about that program. jake>> yesterday we told you
