3 it was a tense morning yesterday at sioux city's iowa national guard readiness center. fire crews were called there just afr 8 - 30 for a fire. after a ten minute search for the fire most of the fire crews were cleared from the scene. an investigation found the source of the alarm was a faulty light ballast. there was no fi... and everyone at the center was back at work a little while later. 3 the new pork processing plant under construction in the bridgeport industrial park could be getting more help from the city of six city. the city council is thinking about approving a tax exemption for the new seaboard - triumph pork plant. the plant will be the biggest employer in sioux city when it opens in january 20 - 17... adding 12 - hundred new jobs. more information about the possible exemption isn't available yet... but it could come up at the hearing

unanimously approved by the council last night. council member rhonda capron says she's excited about the possibilities e plant is bringing to town. 3 "this is part of a huge...huge developement for us. probably the biggest in sioux city history at this point. us back up into the 60's.3 3 shock this morning over a classroom confrontation in south carolina. video is showing a school resource officer forcibly removing a student from a room. as c - b - s news correspondent don champion shows us... in the video... you can see the officer tossing the girl *across* a classroom. 3 (pkg)-nats- the incident is downright difficult to watch. this cell phone video captured the moment a south carolina school resource officer tossed a female student across a classroom monday. look again- here you see the officer grab the girl. remove her from her chair. then toss her across the room.(sot tony robinson ingest from wltx 2:48) "i've never seen anything so nasty looking so sick" (-:50) classmate, tony robinson, recorded the video. the officer had been called to the room to help escort the girl out because of disciplinary problems. robinson spoke exclusively monday night to cbs affiliate wltx.(sot tony robinson ingest from wltx 2:58) "that's supposed to be somebody who is going to protect us, not somebody who we're supposed to be afraid of or scared of; it definitely was a scary experience" (3:03) the incident happened at spring valley high school in columbia. classmates say it all started when the girl

refused to put away her cell phone and leave the room. the richland county sheriff is now investigating and reportedly called the video disturbing. (sot richland county sheriff lieutenant curtis wilson) of course we're going to look at what happened that led up to it, that incident that took place and then what happened afterwards. the unidentified student was arrested. the officer involved, deputy ben fields, is now on administrative leave. don champion, cbs news. 3 a second student was arrested when she tried intervening when the first girl was arrested. 3 sioux city's school board is closing the book on the last step before construction can start on a new elementary school on the northside. the school district and the last of eight homeowners in the way of the new bryant elementary school have agreed on a purchase price for the

homeowners had already agreed to sell their homes... the district plans to demolish them this spring. this last homeowner was holding out... saying the price the district offered him for his home was too low. now the district has agreed to his counter - offer... settling on a price of 214 - thousand dollars. 3 "this is in the neighborhood of the 35th home that we've purchased in the last number of years, almost 8 years since i've been in the district. every one of them we've been able to come to an agreement with the homeowner and not use eminent domain." now that the settlement's finished... demolition on those eight homes will happen in the spring... the new school is scheduled to open in 20 - 17. 3 it's about to get just a little bit harder to access sioux city's chris larsen park. the city's closing chris larsen road and the walking trail between floyd boulevard and the anderson dance pavilion until next summer. that's so crews working on the i - 29 construction project can finish work on the new

expressway between nebraska street and floyd boulevard... as to re - build chris larson road. while this is happening... you'll still be able to get to the riverfront from hamilton boulevard. 3 students at morningside elementary got some special visitors yesterday morning. some of the sioux city musketeers turned up to welcome the transitional kindergarten class into the muskies' kids club. four muskies players will volunteer in that classroom through the year... teaching them how science... technology... engineering... and math applies to hockey. 3 "it kinda brings back alot of memories obviously everybody has been here before. actually i haven't been to pre-school little interesting to see how its set up and how the kids are. . " each monday... a different group of players monday's group brought the students an autographed jersey. 3 a group of young siouxland soccer players is heading abroad for a pair of tournaments next summer.
