controversy over people using it do to awful things. yik yak is an app where you can keep your identity a secret from other users, and you can see everything written by people near your general location. think of it as a local message board where you don't know the names of who is posting. on tuesday, students at the university of missouri noticed hateful, racist threats of violence against black students and faculty posted on yik yak, warning people to not go to campus. if you've been following the news, you know that this adds to the racial tensions on campus, where students and faculity are protesting how the school is dealing with racism. well guess what -- the university police arrested the suspect who posted those threats to yik yak. he's a 19-year-old who is not a student at the school.yik yak works with the local authorties to track down people who do such things and violate the rules. what you do online isn't anonymous just because an app advertises as such. and this is an ongoing problem with yik yak, with morons who think they won't be found. there were four mass shooting threats made on yik yak at four different universities in the past 30 days, and you can find multiple reports of similar threats and hateful posts at school campuses going back to last year. yik yak is also just a breeding ground for cyberbullying and mean gossip when no one's names are published. and everytime i open it up i'm looking at the worst of the internet, i couldn't even show you the feed from my phone's app because it was too nasty i would have to blur out the whole screen. it's just garbage.well let's move on to another social media app making news. and i do mean making news. facebook is diving deeper into the news business with an app called notify app sends you from a variety of different publications. you pick the topics you're interested in, like tech or sports, or you can get specialized reports from one publication, such as the daily morning forecast from the weather channel, or fox sports score reports from your favorite team. and if you tap into the notification, it takes you to the full article or video. it's right now only for iphone users in the us. the benefit is that you can get lots of news alerts without having to download the app for each of these seperate outlets. facebook getting ews shouldn't surprise you -- every social media app days wants be a news just lk snapchat discovtwitter moments an apples app. but iggest challenge

kristine frazao shows us... a single deployment can lead to a lifetime of debt... a reality some are now hoping to change. 3 they answered the call to serve...but for so many - there are battles to fight once they return home as well. trent parker/u.s. army veteran "we had everything, the picket fence, two kids, cars, garage big house."veteran trent parker was stationed in iraq when life at home began to crumble.once he returned, he ended his marriage and is still dealing with mountains of debt, which he says ruined his credit and prevented him from getting a federal job. trent parker/u.s. army veteran "i'm having a no-win situation with being a veteran, having the skills to move into the right positions but having something on my credit deter me from that."k standupit's an issue familiar to so many veterans and one some lawmakers now hope to tackle - to provide an extra layer of protection for active duty military who have trouble paying their bills while they are deployed. senator sherrod brown is a co-sponsor of legislation to amend the fair credit reporting act, making some exceptions for u-s troops .sen sherrod brown/d-ohio"we shouldn't allow them to be penalized by the financial system when they're serving our country."according to the consumer financial protection bureau more than 650 active duty service members have filed complaints about their credit reports in the last three years.for ebony mccormick, leaving the army meant a tough transition - one that landed her on the streets for months. ebony mccormickyou get used to a certain level of structure a certain kind of discipline and then when you get out it's a whole nother worldmaking that other world a little easier to navigate is something this former paratrooper says could help him and others land easier on their feet. coming back home, not only are we start from scratch. with learning about finances, and how to spend finances. it's tough. we always start from ground zero.
