road" with this story. 3 it all began here in raleigh, north carolina with a flurry of plastic bombshells. nat playing battleshipa few years ago, 11 year old twins -- carter and jack hanson-- got really into the game battleship. that got them interested and naval warfare in general which eventually led to a family vacation to see the yorktown - a retired aircraft cacaier in charleston, south carolina. bite carter "my mind was just blown - like blew (explosion sound)!"the kids say the yorktown changed their lives. bite carter "i just realized how amazing history can be." and it was about to get even better. on that same trip the boys learned about a world war 2 vet named robert harding who actually served on yorktown. they got his email address, started corresponding daily, and became really enamored.the boys keep his pipiure by their beds and if you ever go to the yorktown with them, as we did, they'll chew your ear off about mr. harding and what he did onboard as plane handler. nat jack "when the plane is ready to launch he would go unstrap this and the plane would go flying that direction."the folks who run the yorktown say a lot of kids love the ship, but no kid has

3 early numbers show thanksgiving holiday shopping sales were off to a good start.sales tracker (uh - doe - bee) adobe estimates more than one billion dollars was spent online thursday. up 22 percent from last thanksgiving. (uh - doe - bee) adobe says more than a quarter of those sales came from mobile devices. another firm... channel - advisor... says sales at amazon were up 30 percent from a year ago as of midday thanksgiving day. a number of stores also opened their doors on thanksgiving for holiday shoppers... like target... walmart... macy's... best buy... and kohl's. 3 saturday was small business saturday... an annual event started six years ago as an alternative to black friday and cyber monday. here in sioux city quite a few local shops were part of this.some people call it "the day we all shop small." small business saturday is a nationally recognized day encouraging communities to support local businesses.
