. "siouxland news at sunrise starts now" 3 3 good morning, and welcome to 5 o'clock.i'm jacob taylor.thanks for waking up with us on this xxx morning.
5:01 am
3 3 3 we start off this half hour with the largest batch of emails yet from hillary clinton's private email server... just released by the state department. as c - b - s news correspondent don champion shows us... this development comes as hillary clinton continues to lead the pack in the democratic race for the white house. 3 the latest trove of emails were made public...hours after hillary clinton picked up key endorsements from 13 female democratic senators.nat/sot - aren't they an amazing group in one of the more personal exchanges - clinton asks a senior adviser - which channel she could watch the showtime series 'homeland.' in another email, sent to her daughter

benghazi attacks, the former secretary of state says the incident was launched by "an al qaeda-like group."despite her email controversy - clinton leads the democratic field.in an interview with monday with charlie rose -- she maintained she would not put u.s. boots on the ground to fight isis in iraq and syria.(sot clinton) i think the best way to defeat isis is as i've said - from the air which we lead, on the ground which we enable, empower train, equip and in cyberspace. on the republican side of the race front runner donald trump rallied georora voters monday night...in front of a crowd of 5,000 the business mogul joked that cnn should pay *him* to participate in the next debate trump sot) i won't do the debate unless they pay me 5 million dollars.... giving the money to veterans.the latest cbs news poll shows trump may be losing ground to texas senator ted cruz... cruz has surged in iowa to second place.

3 two people were killed in a crash early yesterday morning near yankton south dakota.an (ack - yer - uh) acura driven by a 31 - year - old man was going west in the eastbound lanes of highway 50. that's where it hit a subura that was *going* east head on... it was driven by a 30 - year - old woman. the (ack - yer - uh) acura caught on fire after the crash. the driver of *that* car died there. the *other* driver was taken to a hospital in sioux falls... that's where *she* died. two *other* vehicles were involved in the crash later... but those drivers were *not* hurt. 3 and the heavy... wet snow yesterday was to blame for a

accidents.iowa depratment of transportation cameras caught what happened *after* an accident on interstate - 29... near the highway 20 exit. a semi hit a car in the northbound lanes. this was just before a tow ban was put into effect for woodbury county yesterday. nobody in either the semi or the car was hurt. 3 3 and believe it or not... not *every* accident reported yesterday can be blamed on the snow. like this one... at the intersection of west 7th and hamilton. this was yesterday morning. police say one vehicle ran a red light and hit the other. one person was hurt and taken to the hospital. investigators say they don't think weather was a factor... just human error. 3 and it was "all hands on deck" for clearing the streets of sioux city.yesterday the city had 50 pieces of snow - plowing equipment on the streets. and the plan was to have 12 to 15 pieces of equipment out on the roads overnight. make sure you get your cars and trucks off the main streets especially... so snow clearing can happen today. and it wouldn't hurt to do that on the side streets...

neighborhood. 3 "and then we'll come back in the morning and evaluate it and go from there. we may end up putting all 50 pieces in the morning too, as of right now i don't know, just busy. we're supposed get more snow and if that's the case, the day crew will be going back out in the morning."crews will be paying extra attention to intersections and certain streets across the city... to make sure roads are as safe as possible given the conditions. 3 yesterday's heavy snow forced the city of sioux city to delay garbage collection.so folks who normally have their garbage and recycling picked up monday will have it picked up today instead.the city asks people affected to pull their bins off the curb so snow plows can clear the streets.this *only* affects people who have their garbage picked up on monday. people who have their garbage picked up on tuesdays should still put their bins out just like
5:06 am
3 but... there was at least *one* group that didn't mind the snow too much.most kids all across siouxland had their first real *snow day* of the year yesterday. a lot of schools will have late starts this morning... too... like sioux city's public schools and bishop heelan catholic schools. both have a two hour late start this morning. a group of kids in dakota dunes were building snowmen yesterday. they even had scarves... clothes... and wigs for'em. ithose kids were playing for hours outside... but the cold wasn't going to stop them from enjoying their time off. 3 a little boy in 3 a little boy in indiana slept through his first picture with santa... but it turned out to be a really cute picture anyway!6 - month - old zeke walters dozed off while he was in line with his parents to see saint nick at an parents to see saint nick at an evansville mall. instead of waking the boy up... santa told them to let him sleep... and he improvised. this adorable photo is the result

nod off with a sleeping zeke in his arms... nestled in a big green chair with the book "the night before christmas."dad posted all the pictures to his facebook page. they've been liked and shared more than 500 - thousand times. the walters' said they went back to the mall to tell santa the good news... but by the time they tracked him down baby zeke had dozed off again. 3 3 3 3 3 3 coming up this morning... coming up this 3 coming up this morning... rising arctic temperatures have scientists nervous that

3 rising arctic temperatures have scientists nervous that trapped greenhouse gasses might be escaping the frozen ground and increasing global warming. c - b - s news correspondent mark phillips takes a look. 3 (sarah and norbert leaving unis in the dark/scraping ice off car/)it's a long way from paris to svalbard, norway. it's not just winter up here, just 800-miles from the north poll, the arctic night has set in. sarah strand -- a 22-year-old from california -- won't see the sun again until mid-february. and darkness isn't the only hazard.(sot sarah strand and norbert pirk get gear and guns out of van) so i will take the flare gun if you wanna take the rifle... (s) it definitely has to be running if we're going to get any data. (m) otherwise all this suffering is for nothing. (all laugh)(sarah checking instruments/ws frozen svalbard)what the instruments s are showing is ththt greenhouse gasses that scientiests used to believe were trapped forever in the frozen arctic ground... are now being released.(sot sarah)(062802+) the main thing we are looking at is the gas exchange with ground carbon dioxide, methane. but then we are comparing that to other parameters that we are measuring here. (mp) like temperature, snow ...(s) yeah. (grazing reindeer)the worry is that with arctic temperatures rising more quickly than anywhere else, the gases may be escaping at an increasing rate. and the more greenhouse gasses, the more global warming. (sot norbert pirk)n: there are concncns of that, yes. especially wiwi the pepeafrost thawing // eded // we're trying to shine someme light on this.(m) in the dark. (n) in the dark (laughs)(oncam 061328 01:1) one of the most remote spots on the planet has become the centre of research into the future of it. and it's not just because of what will happen to polar bears, the scientists say what happens up here is what's going to of us. (sot hannah miller)the frustration comes in when climate change deniers use any of the uncertainties to say that your argument is false. you can have uncertainties and still have a solid argument.(sarah and norbert walking across dark arctic landscape)a solid argument -- being sought in a frozen-solid landscape. cutting-edge science, on the northern edge of the world.

3 not even kid's toys are safe from hackers. we'll show you how much they can learn about your kids... next...

3 3 good morning, (le mars)... it's (25 degrees) outside at (time)... as we take a look from our (icon ag & turf) camera. 3 hackers have turned high tech toys into ways to spy on your kids. here's your c - net tech update. 3 "not even kid's toys are safe from hackers. i'm bridget carey, this is your cnet update.***""if your kid owns a vtech learning toy, a hacker could know their names, birthdays and where they live. the app store for vtech's learnng lodge was breached a little over two weeks ago, and according to a statement from vtech, (video from vtech: 0:22- 0:35)and according to a statement from vtech, this exposed the names, e eils, passwords, mailing addrerees and download history for 5 million accounts. but it goes way beyond that. a hacker also was able to pull up the photos taken of kids and their parents, along with chats and audio recordings made with the kid connect service. (photo from motherboard: 0:35-0:49) that discovery comes from motherboard, which was first to report of the hack. motherboard has been talking with the hacker involved, who provided the proof. the hacked data also includes names, gender and birthdays of more than 200-hundred-thousand kids. (video from vtech: 0:49- 1:22)the hacker reportedly found tens of thousands of photos on vtech's servers, and says there are no plans to publish or sell the data.motherboard consulted

appears that vtech did not do enough to encrypt customer data or passwords to guard it from hackers. vtech selllltons ofofid's learning toys, like tablets, phones and even smartwatches. when you have a company as big as vtech not doing the basics when it comes to security and protecting your data, it should show you we have a huge cybersecurity problem on our hands. companies need to care to invest in securityefore they get hacked, not after.""*** so -- what's more worrysome than your kid's toys getting hacked? how about flying delivery drones swarming the skys. (video from amazon: 1:46- 2:36)it's a future amazon believes strongly in, and the company has released a video showing off a new design for drones that can get a package to your door in 30 minutes or less. this prototype drone for prime air will load a shoebox-sized package from underneath the craft, lifted into it's belly, and is then sent flying off to your home. what you're seeing here is actual footage f fm a working prototype. amazon says there are sensors on board the drone to prevent the craft from hitting other things in the sky. when the craft gets near, you get an alert to make sure your yard is clear for landing, and you have to put out a big plastic amazon logo landing base, so the drone knows where to drop your package. amazon first started talking about delivery drones during the holiday shopping season of 2013. but this project will not be taking off in the real world until the us federal aviation administration sets rules on how to handle commercial unmanned aircraft. personally i'm more curious to learn how amazon plans to deal with neighbors that plan on shooting these drones out of the sky. because you know that's goingngo happen.
