good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. sarah palin will join donald trump on the campaign trail today. the one time republican vice presidential candidate enthusiastically endorsed trump taking aim at the gop and president obama. this morning, the reaction to the endorsement is a reminder of just how polarizing the former alaska governor is. the right leaning "washington times" is calling palin a conservative superstar. while the new york "daily news" has a much different endorsement. back in 2012, palin endorsed ted cruz in his senate race. >> we are going to give them hell. >> reporter: donald trump is touting his biggest endorsement yet from sarah palin. >> he is perfectly positioned to let you make america great again.

no more pussy-footing around. our troops deserve the best! you deserve the best! >> reporter: from day one, i said if i ever do this, i have to get her support. >> reporter: a favavite of tea party conservatives, palin's endorsement is seen n a major victory over trump's rival ted cruz. the two are locked in a virtual ad heat in iowa. >> listen. i love sarah palin. sarah palin is fantastic. without her friendship and supporor i wouldn't be in the senate today. >> repororr: jeb bush was less plomatic during a fox news appearance. >> i respect donald trump. i don't think sarah palin has the ideas to keep us safe. >> reporter: on the democratic side, hillary clinton picked up the key endorsement of the human rights campaign, the nation's largest lgbt rights group. rival bernie sanders had his comeback. >> we are the only on the democratic side not to have a super pact and i'm proud of it.

a strong lead over sanders nationally but latest polls show sanders is beating her in iowa. now clinton will return to iowa today. she is expected to spend four days in the state this week versus just one in new hampshire. back to sarah palin's endorsement of donald trump. it came on the same day palin's son trac was charged with assault and possessing a weapon while intoxicated in connection with an incident involving his girlfriend monday night. the palin family attorney declined to comment on the case. >> don champion here in new york, thank you. coming up on "cbs this morning," we will have more on sarah palin's endorsement of donald trump. hillary clinton campaign is dismissing the latest report on her e-mails. smsted -- some of the classified e-mails found on her home server had a higher security clearance

government services. some contained information on highly sensitive programs. the clinton campaign s ss these were not classified when they were sent or received. ben carson temporarily suspended his campaign after a volunteer died following a car accident. a van carrying three carson volunteers and a paid staffer in western iowa flipped on its side on an icy road and hit another vehicle yesterday morning. 25-year-old bradon joplin died yesterday afternoon. the others were treated at a nearby hospital. to international news now. at least 19 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at a university in pakistan this morning. heavy gunfire and explosions were heard at the university located in northwest pakistan. classes had just begun. pakistani troops rushed to the scene and most students have been evacuated and police say at least four of the gunmen have been killed. so far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. michigan governor rick

for the flint water crisis. contaminated water has put thousands of children at risk for potential brain damage from lead poisoning. said snyder, i let you down. some are pushing for on his resignation. omar villafranca reports. >> reporter: michigan governor rick snyder has apologized to flint residents about their poisoned water. >> i'm sorry and i will fix itit >> r rorter: snyder said he will release all of his e-mails to the public on wednesday. >> you deserve accountability. >> reporter: fli's water trouble started in april 2014 when with the city left the detroit water system and drew water from the flint river to save money. despite assurances it was safe, residents complained about the water smell, taste, and appearance. in september 2015, a group of doctors found dangerously high levels of lead in flint's children's blood. the flint switched back to the city water in october, but a pediatrician said the damage is

>> there is no safe level of lead in a child, none. >> reporter: the governor is askingng the federal government for nearly 1 million. he says the state will pay for medical and behavioral treatment for affected children. he'll also deploy additional national guard troops to distribute bottled water and filters to every flint resident. concerned parents were anxious to hear the governor's plan. >> something needs to be done. you poison a whole community full of kids, you really tear up their future. >> reporte corrosive river water ruined flint's water pipes. even today, lead water flows through the taps. omar villafranca, cbs news, lansing, michigan. the eastern united states is bracing for what could be a major winter storm this weekend. heavy snow, some predict up to two feet, is a possibility from washington, d.c. to boston. another snowstorm made for slili roads and rough travel in kansas

and the deep freeze that gripped much of the country froze part of a fountain in fayetteville, north carolina. meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz has more on the storm heading east. >> reporter: we are tracking the makings of a major east coastt storm.m. trackiki the storm that came across the west coast on the day on tuesday and take a cross country trip and become a full fledged blizzard by the end of the week. by friday the snow stretching across the south. maybe as far south as alabama and georgia with a little bit of that snowfall. as it takes the corner deepens rapidly. as we head into friday, the snow extending through d.c. and new england into the start of the weekend. a big area of low pressure slowly lumbers oututo sea as we head through sunday. so it's a friday, saturday, sunday event. highest confidence in the big snow, talking over a foot of snowfall, around the philly area down through d.c. and to roanoke, much of virginia, west virginia, and maybe even eastern kentucky with this one.

that. not just the snow totals but talking about onshore winds and strong coastal winds at a full momo and high tide and that could big pockets of coastal flooding comparable to a tropical system we might see in the summer or the fall. blizzards looking more likely along with major travel disruptions by the end of this week into the weekend. i'm meteorologist eric fisher for cbs news. the massive search for 12 marines on board two helicopters that crashed off the coast of hawaii was suspended. the helicopters went late last thursday while on a training mission. debris has washed ashore. life boats have been recovered and wreckage has been found on the sea floor. so far, no sign of the crew. coming up on the "morning news." now miracle recovery. a man is revived after being found frozen and lifeless on the side of the road. and confirmed cases of zika virus in the united states as health officials urge testing.
