if you could ski as fast as on time lapse, you would get a medal. until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, it includes summit county, vail, aspen, the san juans, probably look at another 6-8 inches on top of what is already fallen up there, you can see on the bigger picture of radar, scattered snow in the mountains and a little bit on the eastern plains, light accumulations south and east of denver. but it's to the west of denver, the big numbers are piling up with snow, and meteorologist cory reppenhagen is live. >>reporter: mike, we've had had pretty good snow up here in the high country already today. we've got a couple of inches up here at the eisenhower johnson tunnel, an hour and a half, two hours, but it's let up a little bit right now, it's hard to tell because the way the wind is blowing this snow, it looks like heavy snow, these are actually tiny flakes, but it's looking.

lanes are ssow right now, but this is going to be a difficult driving process throughout the night. >> okay o. stay warm up there, cory. part of a big storm system, once it sweeps through here, it will cause headaches for the eastern united states. remember, you can get your latest weather on your phone or the new snowcast app, anne. we are learning more about the bizarre chain of events that led up to denver's fire chief getting stabbed. it happened near a busy intersection of colfax and speer and chief eric tade says he never met the woman until yesterday. denver7 reporter lance hernandez talked to the chief and he tells you he was leaving the station when the woman jumped into his car? >>reporter: anne, he had pulled out on colfax and stopped at the traffic light there, he was talking on the phone whhn the suspect opened the passenger door and hopped in. now, she allegely stabbed him on his right leg and hand.

wearing today. doctors had to repair torn tendons and tended to the wounds. he said the attack by marlene rodriguez caught him off guard. >> it was very unusual, a very surreal experience. without getting into denver police's investigation, probably the scarrest thing was being it was going on. >>reporter: now, tade says that his car doors automatically lock miles per hour. he said he never got up to that speed yesterday. he says he may start locking his doors manually from now on and by the way, the suspect is being held without bond at the denver county jail, due in court tomorrow morning at 10:00 o'clock. reporting live in denver, lance hernandez, denver7. >> thank you, lance southbound university is back open after this cement truck rolled earlier this afternoon near iowa.

we do know that one person was hurt. it's not clear what exactly caused that crash. and this man is accused of a deadly stabbing in downtown denver. calvin johnson is accused of killing -- joust hours into the new year. the body was found in anly off of 10th. johnson is in jaillwithout bond. a family was able to make it out of this burning lack spur home thanks to their dog. the dog alerted them to he house fire early this morning, in the perry park neighborhood. tonight, that family is out of the home, after the fire obviously destroyed it. everyone was able to get out, safely, thank goodness. this nurse is accused of groping women, and he's in more trouble tonight. fort collins police just charged thomas moore with a second count of unlawful sexual contact. 6 victims have come forward with similar allegation s against moore saying they were assaulted while patients at hospitals. two of the victims included patients from nebraska.

finally have water in adams county tonight after several water mains broke. things are beginning to return to normal, there is plenty of work to do. 78th street and washington and crews are working to get the water pressure back to normal. >>reporter: anne, they were out here all day, they just wrapped up here, you can see there's still all of the gear and equipment ready for them to continue tomorrow in the morning, anne, you can see still, if you look at the roads closely on washington street, still wet. what it looked like here earlier in the day before crews got all of the water main breaks fixed. the streets were flooded. including a part of the fire station on washington street here. four schools were cancelled and more than 1,000 more were without water for hours. also without water, that fire department who had to work with other surrounding departments

know him, call the police. . 157 people aa denver public schools will be out of a job, officials say they cut the positions ahead of budget cuts. none of those positions include teachers. this all comes as denver public schools is adding nearly 50 positions for teacher lead sglers friends and family of %- this colorado springs marine are honoring him. the coast guard has suspended the search for the marines, the vigil tonight is at the american legion post in fountain. one person went to the hospital after this crash in highlands ranch this morning on wild cat reserve parkway. just south of university. investigators say the car slammed into a pole, knocking it into someone's backyard and you can see the car is pretty smashed up here. no word on what a exactly led up to that crash. and you're taking a live

mark boyle is breaking down these plans and these two bills both want the state to pay more, but they have different approaches. >>reporter: that's right, right now, the state considers a 5-year-old kinder garter a half a student, they hey pais right now, 58% of a full day kindergarten plan, the rest is up to the district and the parents. one lawmakers plan would shift that away from the parents, leaving the state with 100% of the bill. some parents are paying $300 per child per month to send their kids to school full time at 5 years old o. >> i believe that we claim to have a k-12 education, we should fund k-12, particularly since we tend to fund other programs. >>reporter: jim wilson is brother tusing the bill in the -- introducing the bill in the colorado house, 100% of every child's full-day kindergarten, 247 million dollars.

fund it, but that's all money that's coming out of the school's general fund, that could be used for something else that the state funded it. >>reporter: another similar bill is being introduced in the senate. it would shift the refinancial responsibility from the district and the parents to 0.58 to 100 over five years, 13% per year. >> so critical that we're getting more kids into full day kindergarten and some relief from the pocketbooks of our middle class parents. >>reporter: senator kerr's bill would put the issue to a vote in the next election. something that must be done in colorado for students to keep up. >> in the long run, the money that we would invest in full-day kindergarten, more than pays for itself in the achievement of our students. >>reporter::now, both know that these are very early in the process and face an uphill battle, however, they're hopeful that all of these equations will

partly cloudy on the plain, highs stay cold, upper 30s to low 30s at lower elevations. low 30s out towards the grand valley. looking ahead, across the nation, this storm becomes a very mean system as it drops down the south, gathers moisture off of the gulf of mexico, combines with cold air from canada and turns into a really big storm for the eastern third of the country for the rest of this week and the weekend. some areas in new england could be looking at a couple of feet of snow. for us, it's milder, and then, a little cold front arrives on sunday. for tonight, a few flurries and 20. for tomorrow, kind of a windy day. but clearing, high 38. looking ahead, beautiful for friday. with 50. 55 on saturday. that's our bright spot. a little front arrives on sunday, won't be much. a few flurries and colder into early next week. looking at the specifics on the broncos game, probably about 40 at kickoff. dropping into the lower 30s, maybe flurries later in the game. >> all right.
