out here who said this is likely weather related. we will continue to follow updates as we get them. molly henderson, denver 7. and it's an issue for the next couple hours as temperatures fall and snow all throughout the metro area extending into weld county and the eastern plains. this snow will continue to be moderate to heavy. some of the reports towards byers, a couple of inches. and this storm is swinging a lot of moisture into eastern colorado and lighter snow in the mountains and rain in southwestern kansas and strong thunderstorms in the panhandle of oklahoma into the panhandle of texas. this system has a slew of warnings, blizzard warnings

have slick conditions indeed. and the roads, very slick. the state patrol is warning that i-25 is very slick near castle pines. earlier, we rode with one of 86 cdot plows spreading chloride they said they were lucky to get ahead of the storm. >> this isn't bad. we have been able to keep up with it pretty well. we a jump on it, and we were able to make another round and scrape off what was there, drop the material, and it's wet again. >> russell, what problems are you seeing out there? >> reporter: well, eric, i must say we have seen road conditions deteriorate tremendously in the past hour, so at 4:00 and 5:00, we were

conditions on the roadways, wet and slush, and once the sun went down, it got really slick out here. we're on i-76 northeast of the city. and we've seen 5 to 6 spinouts in the 5- mile span from brighton and back to the denver metro area. so this storm also appears to be picking up in intensity now with flakes that are bigger, and the snowfall is increasing in intensity as i mentioned. i know we sound like a broken record every time we say this, but if you don't have to be out tonight, it's a good idea to stay indoors. there is a lot of black ice. back o you. >> thank you, russell. and dia is expecting several inches of snow in the next two days.

showing many cancellations as many people are waiting out the storm in the terminal, and one family said they are trying desperately to get home to orlando but have no idea when that will be. >> it's just a nightmare, yeah. 3 it's terrible. we got stuck in aspen and had our flight canceled. >> hundreds of canceled flights with passengers still getting out of town. if you are traveling, make sure to check your flight frequently and get to the airport early. and as you can see from this live picture up near idaho springs and i-70, they are getting hit here but this is great news for some. and today, we're finding out more about the deadly shooting at this week's motorcycle expo. the man killed is identified as victor mendoza.

the bottom of the stairs but aren't naming suspects nor calling this man a shooter. we spoke with the iron order lawyer who said this picture and the allegations are out right fabrications. the mongols' lawyer said this picture will help his case in proving the mongols' story. and this man may know more about a bank robbery in parker last week. he was seen at the champion bank before the robbery, and now, police want to talk with him. he had his face covered with a fake mustache and beard and is still on the run. sending your kids to all- day kindergarten could set you back hundreds of dollars a year but now, a bill that could save money and help the school districts' budget, mark?

they fund .58 of a student's education but the bill would take that to 100% with a price tag of $140 million but it wasn't the money that was a sticking point for one republican. >> you can tell me what numbers that? >> reporter: in this kindergarten classroom, numbers, colors, and shapes have the students' full focus. 80% of the students in the adams' school falls below the poverty line. >> it's really important for us to have the contact with the kids. >> reporter: in adams 50, the district pays for all kids to go to all day kindergarten. across colorado, not all districts or parents are able to do the same. >> this bill lets the voters to decide how they want their money to be spent.

the issue before voters today, asking, should taxpayers's automatic annual $20 refund be redirected to fund all day k in colorado? the republicans doesn't scrutinize the $140 million price tag as much as the funding priority suggesting % that the shortfall should be dealt with first. >> good job, naomi. >> reporter: meantime, back in classrooms, students work hard to make the most of what kindergarten lessons they're afforded or able to afford. these are the priorities as laid out in the bill. the full-day kindergarten is coming first but now, they're writinn an amendment to flip those around and put the funding shortfall first on a priority list. we'll, of course, have much more as they go back and vote on this later. starting today is the first chance to get tickets to talk with edward snowden and

right now, the race is on in iowa. the first caucus of the collection year, and if the polls were to pick tonight's winners, donald trump and bernie sanders are getting the lance, ur caucuses are a month away. will we see an influx of candidates before then? >> reporter: the short answer, eric, is no. colorado doesn't play a big role in the nominating process but we are a swing state. once he nominees are selected, we will see advertisements galore and visits non-stop. they are the fame of tv viewers, polite -- political ads. it won't be just candidates running them but super pacs. >> i guarantee we'll see super ads about whoever the democratic nominea and the same on the republican side. >> reporter: i asked how soon

and cdot has several of these signs up along the i-70 mountain corridor warning driver that is traffic laws are in effect. if you are headed up to the high country, yoor car must have 4 wheel drive or snow tires, or chains. and if you get caught without snow tires, you can face more than $100 in fines. if you block the interstate and are found to have bare tires, that could cost you more than $650. now, i want to share another interesting fact with all this snow that we're getting. snowpack levels that feed the colorado river are slightly higher than the long-term average. and experts say that could change come spring but right notice it's looking pretty good. thank you, jennifer, and here was the view at monarch. you can see the thick clouds coming in there and i'll run this one more time. look at the clouds building in

the high country and many resorts picking up 1-2 feet. the focus is farther to the east, and that's where the front of the weather system is over the eastern third of colorado. you can sse the thunderstorms across southwestern kansas and all the snow up in nebraska. numbers in denver, 30 and 25 and 44 and 17 are the normals, and the snow is coming down in denver. roads are slick, 27 downtown and at the airport and winds east northeast howling in at 20 upslope direction. temperatures, mid-20s and that will mean a lot of slick continues as the readings fall to the teens overnight. statewide, everyone is at or below freezing with the cepgz of the southwestern corner. this storm is located in a

that brings the up slope right in. and you can see on the futurecast as we go into the evening hours, most of nebraska which is virtually -- the whole state is under a blizzard warning for the storm. and we are still getting good snows even into the early morning hours as we start getting into the rush hour. still snow along i-70, i-76 and most of the metro area. so you will want to allow plenty of extra time and an hour for extra time tomorrow and road closures east of denver, east of watkins towards the kansas border. lows in the teens and for tomorrow, here comes the snow continuing during thh day tomorrow. the storm overall for denver and you can see getting up close to 8-9" of snow.

will be a decent storm, a foot off of burlington, and there will be snow off and on in the mountains for the next several days. 14 for leadville. 24 in denver and 22 in limon and 3-6" of snow and 13 for a low for tomorrow, and another 1- 3" of snow, 1-2-inch in the metro, and weather conditions will stay cold all week long and the sun comes back out and the temperatures don't do much. we'll give our bright spot to saturday at 42, but tomorrow will be our white spot as the storm system continues to cover eastern colorado. that you will month, denver 7 and u.s. bank are honoring volunteers in our community that make things possible every day. one of those volunteers sppnds many days working with students at regis university packing
