boy, a dramatic rescue caught on camera yesterday in port st. lucie, florida. at least two bystanders and two police detectives pulled a 73-year-old man out of his car after it crashed in a pond outside city hall. he had been hit by another elderly driver, a 77-year-old woman, which sent his car careening right into that pond. no one was hurt. the same can't be said for that car. there will be more testimony today in a baltimore courtroom at a hearing to decide if a

new trial. the case of adnan syed was the first season of the popular "serial" podcast. he was convicted in the 1999 murder of his former girlfriend. but the podcast raised questions about the case. on the stand yesterday, a witness claimed she saw him at a library during the time prosecutors claimed he was committing the crime. she also said a former prosecutor said the potential alibi was irrelevant. and a real estate heir robert durst has pleaded guilty to a weapons charge in new orleans. he's been in custody since last year just as an hbo documentary series was airing that detailed his links to several murders. in yesterday's deal, durst agreed to an 85-month prison sentence. if a judge approves the deal, it could clear the way for durst's extradition to california to face charges for the murder of a former friend. the 13-year-old girl from virginia whose body was found in a pond across the border in north carolina will be buried today. >> authorities are learning it was social media that linked her to one of the killers.

latest. >> reporter: as the family prepares to lay their 13-year-old daughter to rest, authorities still trying to piece together the case. family and friends telling abc news, seventh grader nicole lovell was bullied at school, self-conscious about the way she looked after beating serious childhood illnesses. she had multiple social media accounts -- facebook, instagram, snapchat, kik. it was there police think she met david eisenhauer, the 18-year-old freshman, a former high school track star, charged in her murder. >> eisenhauer used this relationship to his advantage to abduct and then kill her. >> reporter: nicole lovell's parents say they last saw her last tuesday night. she snuck out, pushing a dresser against her bedroom door, climbing out her window. saturday morning, police arrest david eisenhauer in his dorm at virginia tech. that afternoon, authorities find lovell's body 80 miles away in north carolina. the alleged accomplice expected back here in court on thursday.

quiet, only waving to fans outside the courthouse after nearly two days of testimony and argues, judge steven o'neil denied a defense motion to throw out a sexual assault case against the 78-year-old comedian. >> how are you doing? what's your reaction? >> reporter: he's accused of assaulting andrea constand in 2004. cosby claims it was consensual. his attorneys argue that a 2005 verbal promise not to prosecute by then district attorney bruce castor prevents the case from moving forward, and that the current d.a., kevin steele, is biased and used, quote, cosby as a political football in the fall to get elected and that, quote, cosby isn't asking for special treatment. he's asking for a prosecutor who abides by the rules. steele shot down the accusations saying, quote, this is a blatant attempt to pick your prosecutor and you don't get to do that. judge o'neill ruled to keep steele on the case, saying he found no professional misconduct.

accept senator cruz's apology. carson many replied that cruz staffers should be fired only if cruz doesn't approve of what they did. tom llamas, abc news, nashua, new hampshire. nowather. there are reports of two more tornadoes in the southeast. the latest in southeast georgia. damaging some buildings and vehicles at an army base. no injuries were reported. it was the eighth tornado in the southeast this week. the administration building at a federal minimum security prison for women in alabama was damaged. brazil's president says the zika virus has gone from a distant nightmare to a real threat against the brazilian people. the government in brazil scrambling to start developing a vaccine. but until one is ready, the president says preventing mosquitoes from breeding is the best defense. the virus has caused thousands of babies in brazil to be born with unusually small heads. despite those efforts being made against the virus, there are growing calls for the olympics to be canceled.

finishing in fifth place in iowa, with 4.5% of the vote, kentucky senator rand paul has also dropped out of the race. the syrian peace talks are on hold with each side claiming that the other side doesn't want an end to the fighting. one thing is clear, five years of civil war has taken its toll on the country as video taken by a drone in homs shows right here. block after block of the city completely in ruins. once the third largest city in syria, homs has seen fierce fighting between the russian-backed government forces and the rebels. this drone video was taken by a group with ties to the kremlin. all too often mideastern refugees drown while trying to cross the mediterranean into europe. so, this rescue, 11 people off the coast of greece. this is especially uplifting they were saved bit italian coast guard. migrants died while crossing the sea. they came from kurdish iraq, libya, syria and other countries just devastated by the violence. now to that frightening
