tim kaine is heading to denver. what hii plans are while he's in town. >> boy, i started sliding in and it was gone. there was nothing i could do, it was toast. first, a crazy scene unfolding today at the cherry creek reservoir. fire crews and divers spent several hours trying to get thissthing out. russell haythorn talked to the driver tonight. russell, what happened? >> you can see it's back to normal on the boat ramp. back to normal right now, but way too much excitement, earlier today for one family. jeffrey rine says he was backing his boat into the water and his truck slipped on the algae, and slid into the lake as well. his 7-year-old granddaughter was in the truck with him. both made it out safely.

finally pulled it out. it made for quite the spectacle on a busy cherry creek reservoir. ryan says he's been boating his entire life, and never expected this. >> it's the moss. when i backed my boat into the water, the moss grabbed ahold. i couldn't stop. it just went in. >> today could have gone a lot differently, and thankfully, it wentwon their favorer. there was a young girl inside the truck, as well as the as it started to slip, they were both able to escape on their own. >> so the truck went in at 10:00 this morning. they didn't get it out until 3:00 this afternoon. the reason why, is because just a few feet beyond the waterer, there's a lip actually on this boat ramp, and the truck, and the trailer were actually caught up on the lip, because they were so far in. divers with south metro fire rescue had to come out with

they took the air bags under the water. they pumped them up, and that helped to loosen the truck and the trailer, and they were finally able to get it out. luckily, there were no injuries, we're happy to report that. we just talked to the trrck owner a moment ago, he's still out here, he was walking back to the shore with his wife. he said we're going to try to spend some time on the beach, and try to salvage this russell haythorn, denver 7. >> glad everyone's all right. a few hours ago, firefighters were busy battling this braise. -- blaze. the flames burned nearly an acre before firefighters got this under control. they're still working to determine what caused it. take a look at this man. aurora police are looking for 71-year-old walter rogers. his family is worried, because he has dementia, and a history

colorado small business leaders to talk about the economy. the event is not open to the public. we told you yesterday, green party presidential candidate jill stein is also bringing her campaign to denver next week. stein is looking to forward bernie sanders supporters. arapahoe road is closing for the next two insides under i-25 for bridge work. it will reopen tomorro then shut down again monday night during those same hours. the on and off ramps will remain open. if you are as tired about the traffic on i-25 as we are, there may be a solution coming. c-dot approved a big dollar amount this week in the first step toward widening i-25 from castle rock, toward monument. brendaliss gonzalez is live. drivers should not get too

molly. c-dot doesn't have the millions of dollars it's going to take. but they're starting a study anyway. you may be disappointed about how long this could all take. the area between castle rock and monument is the only stretch of the highway with just two lanes of traffic in both directions. c-dot approved a little more than $3 million for the study. a spokesperson tells me, studies e projects like this one, we're they're going to be looking at environmental factors and the best options in moving forward. the project would take around 10 years to complete, and cost around $270 million. that's money c-dot says they don't have yet, but they do know they need to do something as more drivers add onto the congesti. >> it's becoming too frequent of a problem that we're getting heavy traffic.

new tonight, an update to a story we brought you as breaking news this week. at least two cu students are trying to break their leases. that's according to our partners at the daily camera. last wee out of their apartments just one week after moving in. the city says they can't live there, because of the way the rooms were divided is illegal. students say swinging book shelfs were installed in the two bedroom units to make for four bedrooms. now the shelves are nailed down, but management is promising thissis just a temporary fix until they can come up with a permanent one. a crisis. that's what one denver city council member calls the number

the waiting game continues. >> that was mitch jelnicker reporting. councilmembers are trying to figure out how to pay for it. 3 mayor miccael hancock has a 10 year plan to build about 6,000 affordable housing uniis. one proposal would put up a property tax in denver, and increase fees for developers. developers say the fees could get passed onto owners and renters. >> 80% of the market they're building is luxury concerned about the fees being increased on homeowners, most of the product being built is luxury housing. >> reporter: community members will vote on the plan this week. then it's off to the full council. the cdc says 99% of people are not caring for their lens properly. the biggest mistake. first, don't sleep in your

sunny monday, and another cool down is headed our way. if you had in your mild that the 70s were going to stick around a little longer. don't fret, they'll be back. at this point, we have rain coming up from the south. i don't think ww'll see any rain from this. if you're down toward telluride, in the way of severe weather. but at this point, we have light, to moderate showers, popping up through this area. also, with our drought monitor, it came out this week, and shows especially aaong the i-25 corridor, it's extra dry here, and down toward telluride in durango. the places where we need some of this rain. it looks liie by the middle and end of the week, we'll get here.

high. our winds shifted in from another direction. 60s toward blackhawk. 71 for ever green, and 80s toward aurora. as we go in through tonight, we'll have temperatures dropping into the 60s. it will be a nice, mild evening for us. tomorrow, we'll be back up around 90 degrees once again. your bus stop forecast, 66 as your headed outside early in the morning. a little bit of a cool start. 90 for our during the afternoon. we're not expecting any thunderstorm activity here for denver. tomorrow, most of the showers will once again show up to the south. and even include areas from eagle to aspen in the higher elevations, especially by about 5:00. you can see that we have most of the action here on the western side of the state vs. the eastern side. for 6:00 a.m., tuesday morning, it looks very quiet across the state. 59degrees tonight, with clear skies. mild conditions, and then tomorrow, 90 degrees.

66degrees to start. you'll be pulling off that me, - jacket, it will be 90 degrees, with sunny skies, as you're headed home. plenty of sunshine across the state right now. this view from the top of loveland ski area, and this view from our rooftop at denver 7, looking at high, cloudiness across the mountains. as for our current temperatures, we're in the mid- to upper 80s. yesterday, we only got up to 76. that's quite the turn around with our temperatures. across the mostly in the 80s. still in the 90s for the western slope. just some cloud cover coming up from the south. i don't think we'll see any rain associatewide these clouds, but some changes are coming our way on the seven-day forecast. it does include another cool down. i'll tell you exactly what that will show up in a few minutes. from keeping us on our toes. soaking in a hot bath may do mooe than jurelax ou.

welcome back. today, littleton, some pretty inspiring athletes joined together to compete in the state summer classic. olympics. there were competitions in boccie, cycling, and tennis. we talked to one of the athletes who said this means so much to her and her child. >> it brings more confidence to the athletes. they get out here with a group of friends, and just do the best they can. that's what we tell our kids. just go out there and have a good time. it's all about the fun, it's not about the medals, and the ribbons.

i'm denver 7 meteorologist stacey donaldson, i've decided this is like where's waldo. where is the cloud here in sterling, colorado? the vera wireless camera is looking out across no cover here around denver. looking toward the mountains. and over the city, so it's been a nice, warm day, and very dry. it will continue to be warm into tomorrow. highs right around 90 degrees. it will be sunny though, as we hang onto the dry weather. then another cool down coming our way. and that will bring some rainfall as well. so really, today, the only places seeing rain are in the southwestern quadrant of our state. mostly from telluride, to

we've seen light to moderate rainfall. a few scattered showers to the southwest of denver, but until the city, we really have just seen a few high clouds showing up. in the mountains, just to our southwest, a few scattered showers, and really nothing to speak of here to the south. light, moderate rainfall, nothing severe at all. 90degrees our high today. yesterday, we only hit 76 for a high. so it really turned around, once our winds shifted. 87degrees is normal. those highs, after being the mid- to upper 0s. so it has slightly cooled. 83 for lakewood. 86 for denver, and 87 for bennett. as we go through the evening, we'll have temperatures dropping into the 60s. but i do think we'll have overnight lows in the upper 50s, officially at dia. tomorrow, highs around 90 degrees, with partly cloudy skies for the afternoon. so bus stop time tomorrow for some kids. 66degrees, as you head to

but not for too long. our future cast into tomorrow morning, nice and quiet throughout the entire front range. into the afternoon, scattered showers, down into southwestern colorado. the higher elevations here into aspen, montrose, this will be 5:30 p.m. i still don't think we'll see any rain here in denver, but that will change by the time we get to tuesday and wednesday. 59 degrees overnight. clear skies, mild conditions. and tomorrow, right around 90. it will be sunny and dry. a pretty warm day for us dia, up to erie, 92 in longmont, aad platteville. 70s from grand lake into leadville. but leadville actually will be 63 degrees we'll have 70s for the mountains. 80s and 90s for the eastern plains. as we go knew the next few days, the highs around 90 degrees. then the cool down occurs.
