good morning, i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm diane macedo. here's the top headlines we're following for you on "world news now." iraqi forces are now pushing into mosul, the last major city held by isis in the country. the extremist group lost a syria town, it said would be the staging area for an apocalypse battle. spending this monday morning in the dark following powerful storms that rolled through the northwest this weekend. trees came down blocking some roads. even so, forecasters thought those storms were going to be worse. there's a big warm-up on the way for the eastern half of the country. there will be high temperatures from chicago to new york, all the way into the 70s and 80s. some areas in the midwest could

bs and dodgers are at one game apiece after game two of the national league series. those are some of the top stories we're following on this monday. it is october 17th. from abc news, this is "world news now." good monday morning, everyone. we're starting overseas this half hour in a battle taking place right now. artillery and air strikes by the u.s.-led coalition have been softening up the iraqi city of mosul as government troops begin to move in. defense secretary ash carter says this could be a decisive moment in the battle against isis. >> the extremist group held the city for more than two years. government forces are moving in from the south and east.

and soldiers roll out as iraq announced all-out battle with isis has begun. the victory bell has won iraq's prime minister said and the liberation for mos started. 30,000 troops are backed by u.s. special forces advisers on the ground, and american jets carrying out air strikes. isis has held the city for over two years and is digging in to defend its biggest prize, burning oil and tires for cover, digging tunnels and setting traps for advancing forces. we visited a base looking at the front line, forces manning a post face-to-face with the enemy. this is the closest to the positions in the area. in fact, there's an isis flag on the next ridge over a mile away. it routinely is under fire. these fighters have lost friends and they tell us that they are impatient for this battle for mosul to get under way. including this soldier who did not want to be seen for security reasons, leaving a life in canada to fight isis. >> isis is probably one of the

think, probably. and i think it's very important for everybody that can do something to stand up and fight back. >> reporter: the iraqi military has dropped leaflets on mosul, telling residents to stay away from isis positions. around 1 million people are expected to flee 2 fighting in what the u.n. says could be the biggest humanitarian crisis this year. >> and in neighboring syria, isis suffered another setback. turkish backed rebel troops recaptured the syrian town of dabiq. they promised in propaganda the doomsdayattle against nonbelievers would start in the small town. instead, isis troops put up minimal resistance before leaving. back here at home, donald trump is pointing the finger after a gop office in north carolina was fire bombed. trump is blaming hillary clinton and the democrats for the attack that damaged a building and some of his campaign signs. police say a bottle with

through the window and a slur about nazi republicans was spray painted on the building, as well. >> when people try to stifle freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, you must come back with more speech and aggressively defend your rights. >> north carolina's governor said the fire bombing was clearly an attack on our democracy. hillary clinton also called it horrific and unacceptable. donald trump is launching a new tirade of wild allegations hillary clinton has a slight lead in the latest poll. and mike pence says the gop ticket will accept the results of the election, but trump continues to tweet claiming the election is rigged more than 20 times. abc's mart raddatz has more. >> reporter: in a sweltering south florida fairground, trump sounding victimized, wounded. >> these false attacks are absolutely hurtful. to be lied about, to be slanders, to be speered publicly, and before your family

day. beyond the traditional battlegrounds, trump showing weakness in utah, texas, alaska, and our poll shows while hillary clinton holds on to her lead, trump supporters are sticking with him. among likely voters, hillary clinton is beating trump by 47-43 points. that four point advantage, essentially unchanged from the two-point lead a month ago, and this surprising finding. clinton's lead among female voters is actually falling. off 11 points of white women withou trump, and while republican lawmakers, especially those in competitive races may be running away, the party base is as much with him as democrats are with clinton. her support among democrats, 89%.

as for those accusations of sexual aggression, 68% of voters say he probably has made unwanted sexual advances towards women, which he's denied, but 84% of republicans say it won't affect their vote. martha raddatz, abc news, washington. as hillary clinton takes a break from campaigning to prepare for wednesday's debate, she faces questions of thousands of hacked e-mails posted by wikileaks. there's transcripts of private speeches she gave to goldman sachs and takes a softer stance with wall street than revealed in public. the clinton campaign has not revealed the authenticity of the e-mails, but they blame russian hackers for trying to influence the election. two chinese astronauts on the way to their own space station. their rocket left the launch center in northern china early this morning for the two-day trip. the pair will spend 30 days in orbit, the longest mission so

the u.s. prevented china from taking part in the international space station because american authorities say the chinese space program had a strong military component to it. in the meantime, a european space agency probe is on its way down to the surface of mars. the dissent will take three days and the landing should take place on wednesday morning. the probe's purpose is to take measurements and measure and prepare a way for a european mars rover. meanwhile, the mothership will remain in orbit around the red planet and atmosphere. so morning time is prime time for orange juice, and you may have noticed prices rising. here is why. this year's ange harvest in florida is down 14% compared to last year. some officials say the sunshine state is in the midst of the worst orange harvest crisis since records began being kept more than 100 years ago. that has prices on the way up and they're expected to continue rising through the end of the year. >> will it impact the prices of mimosas?
