out of nowhere. she grabbed her little dog and crouched over to protect her. i asked what would've happened had she not done that?>> i don't think she would've been alive.>> they are not dishes, i feel people think so because of the way they look.>>reporter: this woman says these dogs got loose saturday night and police told her they hot one of them in the leg.>> when i went the emergency room i had $2000 ready thinking it was a shot to the leg, when i get there he was shot in the face. >>reporter: rodriguez says police should've used less lethal force. in this report the officers said he did leave any of that would've been effective. this man agrees, he watched the dogs dart towards the officer. >> the dogs went running up to

to shoot at the hospital? we will never have to know because of this officer and for that he is to be commended.>> a detective was shot by the suspect and critically injured. at the time his family was told he had just a 1% chance for surviving, he continues to recover tonight. the search is about to begin for a missing 13-month-old boy presumed dead. investigators will target this land deal. we have more surrounding this strange and tragic story. >>reporter: we know authorities will search this land deal tomorrow for the body of a missing rt-month-old baby boy presumed to be dead. officials in wyoming say this is going to be a painstaking search. we know the child's grandfather reported him missing and when authorities in wyoming followed up they found out the baby was dead.

boyfriend and someone in the home told police the baby was deceased and placed in a dumpster. they believe the dumpster dropped off gaage here. in this particular incident, we know three garbage trucks from cheyenne have dropped off trash here at this site. police have been able to narrow it down to a specific section and that is where they will they are going to bring in heavy equipment tomorrow, remove the trash and search through it by hand. they say this will be a painstaking process and they do not have a timeline. as we speak they tell us they are in the process of interviewing several people in this case and also trying to get a search warrant to search the home where the baby lived. this story just in, a live
