homes the west side of highlands ranch. >> this is the chatridge fire and it torched 200-acre. forcing 800 people to evacuate at one point. denver 7 is live for us, the firefighters and their quick work may have saved homes there. >> a lottof relief out here tonight and things have returned back to normal. residents are allowed to go back this started around 11:50 a.m., crews responded fast, 12 agencies from the metro area and their hard work paid off. this is cell phone video. one of the 858 people who was evacuated. right outside his home near the irrigation pond where crews are drawing water and he had been watching the fire for hours when he was told to go.

teens and showers over western colorado. breaking news, as we learn a denver police ooficer has been arrested and charged with stealing. 3 who he was stealing from that makes it bigger news. denver 7 investigative reporter jace larson joins us. >> he was stealing from a suspect. this is the police officer, he took 12, $100 bills suspect. and it started with a chase and then the suspect flipped the car. the body camera showed him committing the crime. taking money that belonged to the passenger. and he returned it allegedly after he learned he was under investigation. and there was something else about that case. the passenger in the car didn't get charged and listen to why.

warrant was served. we heard the warnings, but now scammers use their kids to get money from you. one mom has a warning for you after getting a phone call no parent wants. >> i got a call on my cell phone from an emt who arrived at the scene of an accident and said my daughter was involved. >> that call was actually a sam scammer. >> and if i that i wouldn't see her again. >> the scammer asked for money and a place to meet. >> i just wanted to get to the scene so she called a friend to offer to follow her and they called the police. >> she said i'll follow you, just go. and thank goodness, i would have been at the bank wiring

accused of the death of that little boy and the disappearance of him from wyoming. he was 13 months when it happened and mark stewart has more on the colorado connection. people both in colorado and here in wyoming paying attention. a toddler disappeared and investigators said he's dead. tonight a man sits here in jail and crews in colorado prep for a difficult search. >> he was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but he decided he wanted to talk further putting things on hold when he was supposed to appear in court. this is the boy, he's been missing since last weekend, soon crews will search a landfill in weld county. a case that is difficult for investigators. >> it's obviously a big priority.

pulls at heart strings. >> in addition to the landfill search, evidence was removed from a home here in wyoming. six people are in the hospital after a bar fight leads to a shooting and roll over crash. it started early in morning and shots from fired and one person hurt. while the group was driving the victim to the hospital, the driver ran a red light and a car and then rolled at 11th, all of the people were rushed to the hospital along with a person in the other car. a corvette slammed into a pole and burst into flames overnight. you're looking at what is left. one person had to be cut out of the car. and the other passenger was arrested and to top it off, a passing car struck the front of
