he is accused of killing nick stanley found dead in his truck next to highway 80. an autopsy revealed he was killed, shot to death. investigators say he may be with his girlfriend, 22-year-old jessica gonzalez, she is wanted for accessory in the murder. people in alameda count very to skip a dip in the pool because of new rules on drain covers. authorities say they had to temporarily close several public pools because they don't meet federal safety regulations. under new rules that went into effect july 1, pool and hot tub owners are required to install drain covers so people won't get trapped. the department of environmental health estimates 40% of the public pools in the county don't meet the new standards. residents of walnut creek apartment complex say they are getting some peace of mind after investigators arrested a man suspected of a string of sexual assaults. george kiriyama has the latest.

>> reporter: rick can smile once again. for weeks she says she felt like a prisoner in her own home. fearing for her life and her 6-month-old baby girl. >> we were contemplating moving because you know, we were scared to live here. it's sad. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: her fears have been replaced by relief. the investigators have arrested 22-year-old antonio mouton, a spoken they say is responsible for attacking three women. she feels she has her life back. >> it's going to be great. i'll be out like a light. i won freaked out. definitely nice to know that that's not of concern. >> reporter: deputies arrested the man on tuesday night. they had to wait a couple of days to match dna. some neighbors say they will continue to be alert. >> you never know what's going to happen. you can't trust everybody. you never know who is lurking out your door or outside for

that matter. >> reporter: brook says she's going to have something she hasn't had in weeks. peace of mind. >> not going to be constantly staring at my door and window worrying that you know, and even when i come home, having -- looking and closets and wondering if somebody's in there. >> reporter: george kiriyama, nbc bay area news. >> george says there are neighbors who say they are still upset with the complex management over lack security. they'd like to see them hire more guards. right now there are two guards per shift for a complex that has more than 2,000 people. police have released a new sketch in the case of a driver killed at the port of oakland. investigators say this man ended up in a minor accident with another truck driver the morning of june 24. the fight then escalated, the man shown in the sketch killed the other driver. 5'9", 180 pounds, and between 30 and 35 years old.

the attack happened on middle harbor road before maritime street. there is a $10,000 reward for information leading to arrest. firefighters north of calistoga worked putting out hot spots from a fire that started yesterday. the flames were reported around 5:00 p.m. off highway 29 near tubbs lane. only 10 to 12 acres burned but crews are worried that wind could help spark dry grass. five homes were threatened. highway 29 was shut down in both directions for over three hours. no one was hurt. a new warning about online security. "the new york times" says researchers are raising alarms about vulnerabilities in some of the secure corners, the banking, and e-commerce industry. these often use a third party to encrypt private information but with more and more third parties getting into the encryption business they worry they will eavesdrop and attack the

websites they work for. some say such attacks are possible in theory but they point out the system has worked more than a decade. a supply manager who works for apple is in federal court accused of taking kickbacks from six asian companies that supply iphone and ipod head sets. paul devine was named in a grand jury indictment along with a man in singapore. apple spokesman tells the "mercury news" apple is committed to the highest ethical standards in the way we do business. we have zero tolerance for dishonest behavior, inside or outside the company. you could call her the $100 million candidate. the "mercury news" reports meg whitman pumped another $13 million into her coffers that brings her total personal contribution to $104 million but she's not done. she will spend up to $150

million of her own money to win the governor's seat. the legal wrangling continues over the gay marriage ruling. attorney general jerry brown is making his opinion official. he filed documents urging the ninth circuit court of appeals to allow gay marriage to resume on wednesday as scheduled, the move a direct response to opponents who urge the court to stop the marriages until the court can hear an appeal. unless the ninth circuit weighs in or opponents take their appeal to the u.s. supreme court, at 5:01 p.m. next wednesday same-sex marriages will resume. this morning a new lockheed martin satellite lifted off. the so-called advanced ehs satellite is on the way to replace the mill star satellite. the new technology will make cell phone, tv and gps reception better and help with military communication. later in this broadcast our own

china continues to struggle with severe weather. overnight heavy rain triggered a land slide that killed five people and trapped more than 500 others. surveys are still going on and china's official news agency suggested the death tolls may still rise. roads were partly restored in a region where more than 1100 were killed in a mudslide. for the survivors more than 10,000 of them have been forced

to live in tents, schools or find shelter with family and friends. this morningment ob and the first family are traveling to the gulf coast and spend the weekend on the beach. a quick end to the summer vacation. but there is no break for the crews working at the spill site as they try to find a permanent seal for the well. jay gray is in gibson, louisiana with the latest. >> reporter: after a round of tests on the floor of the gulf admiral thad allen says work isn't quite finished yet. >> we're trying to assess the options we have. >> reporter: engineers say the static kill worked so kel that the mud and cement likely went down into the reservoir below the floor of the gulf and up through the area between the pipe and casing called the anulyst. as much as a thousand barrels are trapped. there is concern it could force it out and into the gulf. this morning engineers are still looking for a fix. >> we could even put another

"the new york times" says at least a dozen device makers are being investigated. overseas many doctors are government employees and even paying them for a consultation could violate the foreign

corrupt practices act especially if the payments are unusually large or undisclosed. president obama has taken a stand on the proposed mosque near ground zero. he's in favor of it. a white house dinner celebrating the month of ramadan the president said muslims have the same right as anyone else to practice and display their religion. plans to build the mosque sparked national controversy compelling top republicans to speak out against it. this is the first time that the president has commented on the matter. if you haven't opted for overdraft protection with your bank you might be in trouble. by tomorrow banks will no longer automatically cover debit transactions that exceed account balances. it's part of a federal ruling to clamp down on overdraft fees. the court says the process was unfair and deceptive, taking millions in fees the judge ordered wells fargo to pay more

than $200 million back to customers. a slip of the tongue and a slide down the chute. this morning we have new video showing the actual exit of a jetblue flight attendant. a sign blocked some of the view but you can see the emergency side deploy and moments later someone use it. that flight attendant is said to have cursed at passengers over the intercom, grabbed two beers, releasing the slide, then using it. he has said he was reacting to rude and uncooperative. the airline has not found anyone to back up his story. >> a southern california teen who sailed around the world is facing misdemeanor charges this morning. police say the 18-year-old zach sund sunderland was arrested in the back of a home. three others were arrested. he maneuvered around the pirates

think you're safe. i think you need both of them. layers obviously are going to be good. >> i have tie-dyed sweats. >> you need them. you'll start off at the golden gate bridge there is a lot of fog, mist and drizzle and the roads are a little slick especially in the hills. along skyline boulevard. layers are the case. last year the festival was sunny. this year not the story. the next shot to oakland. a lot of cloud cover. and here as well. as we look out over the city of oakland, 7:118. as we move to the south end of the bay, san jose, lots of cloud cover as well. we are sitting at 60 degrees in san jose. that is the warmer spot. the rest of the bay area in the 50s. that fog bank, 2100 feet deep so a lot has blown over the hills. it's going to take time and get some sunshine going. this is 7:00 a.m. a lot of the fog hugging the

city, east bay and into the north end of the bay. by 9:00 a.m. we still got it in place, now moved down to the peninsula, sky line boulevard, plenty of it there. as we go through 12, we're getting clearing mainly close to the coast we have that fog with us most of the day. 3:00 p.m. as well. it's going to be a chilly daysh 50s along the coast. the satellite, a little spin right about here. this is helping to give us a thick fog bank during the evening and sends it our direction, really blows in as we go through the overnight and into the morning hours. this is going to be the story through tomorrow. don't expect sunshine at the beaches. san francisco, by the way, july, the coolest on record in san francisco. the rest of the bay area dealing with cooler conditions. we'll get cooling this afternoon along the coast. we'll manage a little bit of sunshine for the padres game and the giants today. and we'll get sunshine along south beach and along the park. 109 palm springs through the central valley in mid-90s. bakersfield an fresno.

field. as for the a's, yesterday opening a set against the twins in their first visit to new target field. 2-0 in this one, down just one. double to deep left that scores. we have ourselves a ball game. 2-2 at that point. the next inning the twins get it right back. the ball is going to bounce out of the park. this is a ground rule double. the a's outhit the twins 14-5. minnesota wins 4-3. shocking does not begin to describe it. thursday the niners were concerned whether glen coffee was okay when he didn't show up for practice. yesterday they found out why. the 23-year-old is retiring. the running back was about to begin his second season in the league but informed the team yesterday morning that he is done so. no reason has been given. according to reports coffee has not filed retirement papers with the league and not planning to

is going to be with us most of this morning through the afternoon. some sunshine, bayside and inland. only 70s and 80s for afternoon highs. we'll enjoy the sunshine if you go to the giants game, a little bit of sunshine. a little breeze going on as well. but that's at 1:10. along the coast 50s and 60s. you'll need the layers again today. >> thank you. here are three words that strike fear in many kids -- school starts monday. it does at least in the san jose unified district. it's a safe bet no one has been busier getting ready than teachers and staff at trace elementary. on july 5 a fire destroyed more than a dozen classrooms and library. the next day the district promised to have everything ready to open on schedule and it looks like they will meet their goal. teachers have been readying classrooms and the community pitched in with thousands of dollars of supplies to help the school open in time. 20 portable classrooms have been

brought in to help t. fire was determined to have been arson. no one has been arrested for it. in one week two sisters will go back to school with quite the story to tell about what they did over their summer vacation. they worked hard to raise money for the second harvest food bank. as chris shows us, the kids had fun doing it. >> reporter: it was on a tour like this one about four months ago that a seed was planted in the mind of kaitlyn and emily. when the sisters saw the work in san jose they decided to get to work. >> my family is very lucky that we can afford healthy food so i thought we should help people who aren't as lucky. >> they did more than hand over the piggy banks. >> we collected the cans and bottles that we used already and we took them to the recycling place, then they gave us money. we decided any old clothes or

toys we didn't want we would sell. >> then she got creative and played her violin in front of a local store raising about $85 in about 90 minutes. this week the girls handed over a check for almost $800. this is just some of what a family in need would get from second harvest. the bank using bulk buying and donations are able to turn every $1 into two feels so by raising 788 dollars they were able to provide almost 1600 meals to families in need. >> i think that by seeing these kids stepping up at this time of year and making a difference can just be so inspiring to so many people. >> both my husband and i are incredibly proud of them. we couldn't be happier as parents. we feel very lucky that we ended up with such great kids. >> the girls will keep raising money, a lesson in charity for all of us. kris sanchez, nbc bay area news. >> still ahead on the bay area
