man who kidnapped her. 18-year-old briancon fronted a couple just before 8:00 sunday morning. he allegedly stand the man several times and kidnapped 18-year-old judy law. it happened near the intersection of capitol avenue and heavy steader road. he knew one of the victims, but police are not saying which one. they do not have a motive. the man who is stabbed is expected to be survived and police are now asking for the public's help in finding them. they may be in a black 2002 lexus with a license plate number you see on your screen. 6 dsj 212. it's not clear if he used his own car in the kidnapping. in walnut creek after apartment complex is becoming notoriously dangerous for a string of brazen sauls. the latest happened at the

cooler. it pushes the start date back of when you start bringing the grapes in. it's a scramble to figure it out, which grapes are ripe and which are in the spot where they make the best wines. they are making decisions. >> you want the heat to get the sugar levels up, but not too high and don't top the get in the rainy season when they account rot. >> exactly. the warm days, cool nights. we can feel the breeze. >> you all can't feel it, but you get enough temperature to ripen the grapes and it cools off enough to retain acidity and the tannins and the texture that go into the wine. >> how do the merlot grapes taste? >> they taste good to me. you take them off the vine and crew it up. it's sweet. not bitter. another thing is looking at the seed color to see it turn brown. that's another indication they are getting close to being ripe. >> maybe you are sweating it,

wondering when you will get the harvest. your uncle was a winemaker. >> he said this will be the vintage of my life if we pull it off and do a great job. i'm confident, but it's the late start date and they will make take grapes into thanksgiving. we never had that before. >> wow. grape pickers should be out here in about an hour. they want to pick while it's cool. it's better for the grapes. >> it could be a good year. thanks a lot. >> one of oakland's medical marijuana companies is expanding in a big way. the i grow store is celebrating its grand reopening under the name we grow hydro phonics. we grow is a national franchise, but 75 stores set to open soon across the country and plans in the works for a cultivation center. local politicians support the store including candidate jean

things sorted out, but it's back again with 50s out of the pass towards livermore. this time it's for real. likely because of the volume of traffic. you see the 15 minutes registering on the travel time out of the pass through livermore and towards the dublin interchange. seeing a slow down, but that has a light volume of traffic. westbound highway 4 coming out of the area and speeds around 50. we should see this string turn to yellow over the next couple of minutes. later on in about another 45 minutes, pittsburgh and bay point will show slowing as well. a nice easy drive through the east bay hills. you might get a gust of wind or two. we will give you a live shot and the camera shaking over the high-rise. you you will get caught and the chp issued a high wind advisory, but go ahead and extend the warnings. he has a look at the winds and the effect on your forecast in a moment.

what americans need to know this morning. >> let me tell you why you need to pay close attention. someone was arrested outside paris for a bomb scare on a train that shut down a train station there last friday. it turns out it was just a scare, but they had several and that is the type of thing that has led authorities to raise this new travel alert for americans heading to europe. they say don't necessarily cancel your plan. it's not a warning, but you need to be on alert in a few places. travel hubs like airports and train stations and tourist attractions that attract lots of people in one place at one time. the government is known for weeks of a general threat of some sort of terror plot being created for europe. they believe that eight germans and two british brothers in pakistan and afghanistan have been working on this perhaps with the help of osama bin laden.

it is a general threat. they don't have specifics that they have released. today they are warning americans to be vigilant if you are headed to europe and be on the look out for anything suspicious. >> thanks a lot tracie. today is the first monday in october which means the start of a new term for the supreme court and the first time that elena kagan will take her seat on the court. a controversial case involving the rights of protesters and military funerals. protesters claim that all u.s. war deaths are god's unishment for the military's tolerance of gay service members. they protest during military funerals. that's upsetting to the families. the court is expected to take up a new california video game case. california is looking to block minors from buying violent video games. a lot of people say that ultimately is an infringement of your first amendment freedom of

speech and press rights. they will look at all of the new cases. >> a south bay family is lucky to be alive thanks to quick thinking off duty firefighters and a garden hose. as flame ripped through a complex yesterday, two firefighters happened to be near by. they helped families to safety even they they weren't wearing protective gear. the firefighters join us now. we have an exclusive interview. we thank you for joining us. did you happen to be at the right place at the right time? >> we are actually driving by down into south san jose to handout flyers and talk about no on measure v. areas looked out the window and you notice the smoke coming out. >> what did you do? >> we didn't hear any sirens.

we should check and make sure someone called it in. people are starting to crowd around the house because it was burning and started to go to work. >> you went to work started alerting neighbors. did you call it in? >> we started to do the search before the fire got too much more involved. make sure everybody is out of the house. shut off the gas and electric and started to put water on the fire. he started to evacuate the exposures and make sure that everybody was out safe. >> here we see video of after firefighters arrived and they became more involved. all you had to do was use a garden hose. >> we use the garden hose and borrowed tools from the neighbors to shut off electricity and gas. you do what you got to do. firefighters adapt and overcome

since the beginning of time. >> my family has been out since 1883 and my uncle was overseeing the vineyards and has a good 35 years of experience. >> the late harvest for what? >> better flavors and better colors. we are seeing great a sydity out there. until january or until you start tasting the wine, it's hard to tell. everything looks great so far. >> this could be the best or northwest unusual vintage. >> it's the coldest summer and presents challenges and we had that heat spell and i hope we will see an indian summer where we have a great october. >> we are about three to four weeks later than normal. have you been sweating it or stress over it? >> i stay to myself a lot and lord grant me the wisdom for what i can't control. one of the first mentors in the

wine-growing game said karl, you never blame the weather. it is what it is. you work with what you can control and go from there. >> when you are testing the sugar content, how much is based on taste? >> that's where there is no real answer. when i come to make a decision, you look at the ph in the sugar which you get in the lab. at the end of the day it's all about flavors. we are farming about 2200 acres and i consider myself a flavor farmer and a tannen farmer. that goes into the wine. what does it taste like and feel like? >> we are waiting for the sun to come up and we have a bunch of men and women. >> it will be off the vine before too long. >> another windy morning here in livermore. >> so bob, it is kind of unusual that we had the cool weather. we had to be experts and what to do.

this process could last and they could be out there doing work into november or thanksgiving. >> as late as thanksgiving, i have been out here several years. the vines by then are okay. >> usually the first week in november we finish up. third or fourth week is when it could be, but it will depend on what the sugars do and how the fines are looking. you can see there is good green color and the canopy is holding up well. it's now picking the grape when is they make the best wine. >> it's thank goodness for the 105 degree days. >> they did good things in moving the sugars forward. there was a while where the shug ars were stopped around 22, 23 bricks. you want to get the 24 or 25. it took that jump, but it made it scramble. everything is ready to go. >> thanks a lot. an interesting look.

>> can't control the weather and i can't control it, but like him, i let you know what's going on and show you an early slow down through the valley. we are looking at a 16 minute drive. started early with the slowing out of the pass and moving over close towards north first. watch for more than we typically see. a lot of folks getting the start and antioch hit hard over the last 20 minutes and speeds dip below 20. the good news with the ferry back in service. the difficulties they had and they return back in service without issues. they were only out of service for about a half hour. both bridges at full speed, but we see the issues.

kind of unsettled, cool and windy and things warm up and get back to the 80s starting saturday. back to you. the war in afghanistan continues to move across the border into pakistan. new attacks in pakistan on nato troops. >> new attacks on tanker trucks that moved fuel to the troops in the field. this is from a past attack. terrorists in pakistan striking with 20 more trucks going up in flames. trucks are really sitting ducks because the government closed several border crossings after an american helicopter killed three soldiers. leaders demanding the warnings and the crossings be reopened. a lot of supplies passed through from america to the docks and trucked through pakistan into afghanistan. completely cutoff.
