after the long red eye flight. rob redell is live this morning. welcome them home. >> they just pulled up here at at&t park, an overnight flight from frefl to sfo. a lot of players were getting their bags or getting into cars. we have the main head honcho of the team. can you tell me what the move was like among the players? >> i think professional. we are moving to games three, four and five and philadelphia is not going to be an easy team. it's 1-1. we felt we had to get one. we would like to have gotten two. we win three, we go to the world series. we win two, we are in good position. we need to try to accomplish one of the two. >> do you feel like mission

accomplished from the weekend? >> it's not mission accomplished when you lose the game, but we felt like we had to win one. it was a tough environment and they were a good team. game 1 and game two. it was a lot closer than the score indicated, but it got out of whack late in the game. >> how do you not get comfortable with home field advantage? >> the whole advantage is not necessarily a baseball playoff. the samplea and texas series can be a mixed bag. we have a lot of energy from the crowd and that will help us a lot. tuesday 1:00, pretty quick turn around. we are ready to go and the guy will work out tomorrow and the crowd will be into it. they will help us. >> every time we see you out

dangerous problem. good morning, chris. >> good morning, laura. it's no secret that the tree lined streets is one of the big draws in the downtown area. it's beautiful here. the trees can create danger. they are required to have by city code. you are required to have at least one street tree from the curb and the trees around me qualify. the problem is that those trees require maintenance and that's the rub where the city does not provide a service of an arborist. this was a painful lesson that one family learned in january of this year when a 60-foot tall maple tree crushed a car and trapped the family inside and ultimately killed a toddler. it was a terrible tragedy and insult to injury, the homeowners were responsible for maintaining the tree.

when we reported on the story, an arborist told us it would be impossible to know that the tree had root rot and was a terrible danger without the arborist. the service costs money and that's where this partnership comes in with the ground works program. that's a branch of the downtown business owner's association. they will be trimming the trees behind me. the palm trees along almaden boulevard off the freeway. they are going to be providing services in other parts of the city as well. we will talk more about that in about a half hour. in downtown san jose, chris sanchez today in the bay. >> we will look forward to it. thanks, chris. >> new this morning, the 3-year-old boy from pasadena who was lost by his drunk father is and sound. police found him sleeping in his father's car in a parking garage overnight after a 25-hour

a live look outside this morning. these are expected highs and you can see a temperature drop. san jose 68 and fremont is 67. looks like fall has arrived. new this morning, officials are warning of a serious terror threat. saudi intelligence warp of an attack on europe, particularly france. this is the latest in a series of warnings that put european leaders on edge. sources from north africa and the united states also warned of the attack. the last two weeks, europe heavily armed up security. right now a typhoon is tearing into the philippines. with 140 mile per hour wins, super typhoon mag set strongest to hit the country in years. thousands have been displaced so

far and seeking rehuge in neighboring areas. they are warning the typhoon may damage crops, homes, and power lines. the area is bracing for heavy rain. >> over weight children with a high body mass index are more likely to have high blood pressure. a study finds that small changes in weight could ig 95 cantly impact blood pressure in over weight kids. they study more than 1,000 kids recording height, weight, and blood pressure. changes affected blood pressure and all the weight categories, but that was 4 1/2 times greater in overweight kids. the kids can really improve their blood pressure just by losing a few pounds. by the end of the year, sprint will offer the first 4g wireless in the bay area.

good monday morning to you. 5:22 and san jose starting off with cloudy skies and not a soaker unlike we wrapped up the morning with intense showers. we are stuck with the clouds and not too much in the way of showers around oakland. 59 degrees and mostly cloudy skies over in the san francisco area. 57 this morning. jacket weather. not necessarily umbrella weather today. between now and about thursday, things will be turning drier. what's left of the showers may be around the hilltops in the area of south san jose. as we head through the next 24 to 48 hours, tuesday and wednesday we will start to warm up with north winds and next weekend, we will likely see a few more changes headed our way.

59 in oakland and also in the 50s current low in san francisco, most low cloudy skies and notice we are not seeing much wind. what's typical after rain is it takes time for the clouds to clear. we will see that today. you can see what's left of the showers rotating into central and southern california. still an outside chance of stray showers in the east bay or parts of the south bay. most of the action moving into southern california as that low sets up across the southland here over the next couple of days. around the bay area, mostly cloudy skies to start off and it will be a cool day. 68 degrees and mid 60s for oakland. san francisco is 63. 67 in petaluma. tomorrow thanks to a little bit more of a north wind, we will clear out and warm up in the middle of the week and next weekend not the best timing. looks like more rain for the north bay on sunday. back to you. >> watch what your pediatrician

>> just a function of getting off a red eye. you want to talk about a quick turn around. the team then had to hop a flight from fill to sfo. from sfo, they hopped the bus to at&t and pulled up in the past hour. a lot of the teammates coming off and focussing on where is my bag so i can go home and get shut eye. that will be the key for the rest of the morning. they do have the light work out later in the day. then of course they have to sleep tonight before their game at 1:00 here tomorrow at at&t park against the phillies. in about 10 or 15 minutes, we will hear from the team manager on what needs to happen over the next 24 to 30 hours the team to be ready against the philadelphia phillies tomorrow. we will give you a little insight on your best bet for getting seats to the games. the three games and home field advantage tuesday through thursday here.

even out. the metering lights will turn on about 6:15 or 6:25. the south bay getting more crowded and no major issues. the thing i marked is the chp had a report of a coyote that was hit. sounds like an injured animal. the rest of the northbound directions are moving smoothly. this is the south bay commute. a few sprinkles down here? >> highway 17 might be seeing a little bit of that. in san francisco we have the clouds and no raindrops. 57 degrees to the north and napa is 52. jacket weather around the bay area. here in concord we are at 54. southwest wind at close to 7 miles per hour. for the afternoon it will be cool. a lot of moist from your yesterday's rain and a lot of north wind. it may take time to break the clouds up. expect a cool day and mostly 60s around the bay. tomorrow as the north wins pick up more, we should warm up into tuesday and wednesday and cloud up for the weekend. more rain early on sunday.

back to you. >> new this morning, the weekend rain in the bay area has a lot of people preparing for wet weather. starting today, people in oakland can pick up sandbags and plastic sheets to protect their homes. they are available at oakland fire stations and the city advises people to clear leaves and garbage to keep streets from flooding. a safeway is offering free and low cost mammograms today. there will be a mobile unit to help under privileged women with a doctor's referral. it is sponsored by catholic health care west st. joseph's medical center. the service is available at 2250 monument boulevard in concord. also free tests to see if there is lead in your kids's toys. bring the toys to monument community first five center on clayton road today. if you can't get out today, don't worry. they will have another free event october 23rd in

trees. when bad weather strikes and the trees fall, there is a lot of confusion about who should clean it up. chris sanchez is live where a new partnership starts today. solving a dangerous dilemma with the city trees. good morning, chris. >> no surprise that there so many tree-lined streets in the city. it does require each to have at least one street tree. that's lick this alarm almaden boulevard. the problem is that trees need maintenance and the city does not provide assistance to homeowners with that. a lot of homeowners don't know they are responsible for maintaining the trees. this is a lesson that a family in san jose learned painfully in january as a giant tree fell on to a truck in front of their property and crushed the family, trapping them inside, cultimately killing a 2-year-old boy. it was a 60-foot maple tree with

root rot. an arborist said it would be impossible to know that tree was in danger of falling without the services of an arborist. that costs money. sometimes as much as $400 per tree for trimming and maintenance. that's the reason for the partnership between the city and ground works funded by local business. they will be going through downtown, trimming the trees today and on through december. that may not help you, but the tree tips might. here's what to do to make sure the trees are safe. you should try to do a structural pruning every four to five years when they cutoff the dangerous limbs, anything in danger of falling and keeping the shape of the tree as well. make sure they have an adequate water supply. when you plant new young trees, water them deeply because they develop a deeper root system and come rainy season, you don't have the worry of that tree losing the root system.
