at&t park about an hour ago after the overnight flight from philadelphia. when asked what the mood was like, the president told us professional in light of last night's 6-1 loss to the phillies. that being said, the team did accomplish what it felt like it needed to do and that was at least one win against the phillies. the team returned to at&t park and the next three games are here at home. the players have gone home. they weren't a chatty punch. they are up for a light work out with the team manager. >> they are playing good and you have to play your best ball. have to get back on track and get back to playing our ball. >> sticks are sold out for the next three games at the box office. he had to register in advance.

>> a national hero will raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving captain sullenberger is going to be the key note speaker for the street smarts program at doherty high school. it's called it happens. it is designed to try to protect teen drivers. sullenberger was the pilot who safely landed us airways jet with 155 passengers on board. everybody was okay. that happened in 2009. >> he was a huge hero. an icon. much like our own mike inouye. if you have good news, you will start with livermore. >> hang past the school you mentioned and we are talking about the exit off of 580. i will be a hero if you get out of the roadway over 20 minutes or a half hour before things jam up through livermore. we have an 18 minute drive. about 45 miles per hour on average as you head out of the

pass. you might get a few drizzles and sprinkles on the windshield. we will take to you sunol. that's a tease. sunol is looking nice southbound with the tail lights. things are picking up with the volume. this is before you get to andretti. about an hour, the slowing will kick in, but a half hour before you see slowing into the south bay. we will show you the map with the great speeds showing up close to the limit throughout the northbound routes. the incident reported southbound at saratoga, reports of a coyote being hit boy a car. you might find a crew there. light volume of traffic. the dumbarton bridge with an easier drive. they had a lane closed until early sunday morning. all lanes are open for the westbound direction. the emergency repair work we told you about got completed sunday morning in time for the midday traffic we had. no problems for the morning

chris sanchez is live with more on this dangerous dilemma. homeowners don't know what their responsibilities are. >> reporter: let's clear it up. you are responsible for the trees on your property. that's probably a no brainer for the ones that are next to your house, but did you know you are responsible for the ones on the other side of the sidewalk? the street trees that have to be planted in front of every house within 10 feet from the curb. you are responsible for them and they require maintenance. you are responsible for the maintenance as well. that was a painful lesson one family learned after a tree fell on a truck, killing a toddler. that had root rot and back then an arborist said it would be nearly impossible for the homeowner to know without a trained eye that the tree was in danger of falling. services cost money as much as $400 per tree for the major prunes they need every four to years. here are signs you may need to

call an arborist. you may want to look for a leaf change. you know the trees that you have on your property. some lose their leaves like this fruit tree. others keep their leaves year around. look for changes that are ob normal for the species that you have. also look for dead branches. that's a sign your tree may be in trouble. you want to look at the bark on the tree and make sure there not big chunks missing or bore holes from insects. perhaps the tree is become compromise and could be in danger of falling or dying. you want to look for mushrooms mostly along the base and the bottom of the tree. that would indicate a root rot and that would be bad news, especially as the rainy season comes. there is the beginning of a private-public partnership between the city and a group called ground works funned by downtown business owners in an effort to make sure that the

jackass 3d did in theaters. absolute number one with a bullet. it made $50 million over the weekend. the biggest movie opening in the month of october ever. as "the washington post" wrote "this provides undeniable evidence that america loves to watch people getting hit in the crotch." here's a real life stunt that uses science. a father and son attached an iphone to a weather balloon and recorded this video. big balloon launches are getting fairly popular. this month's magazine shows you how to do it and a group in san francisco is called space bridge that does it fairly regularly. it's perfectly legal as long as you follow safety guidelines that send whatever you want up very, very high. >> i look at that and think it's cool. >> the iphone transmits the

location so you can find it. >> get ready for new questions from your child's doctor that has guidelines. they are being told to ask kids how much television and computer time they get. the american academy of pediatrics is issuing a policy after they linked excessive screen time to attention problems, obesity and sleep and eating disorders. they are supposed to ask about media habits and that f they have access to the tv or internet in their bedrooms. >> now to a story that matters to everyone. the american heart association is breathing into the cpr guidelines. they want to take the emphasis away from breathing and focus more on chest compression. heart attack patients fare better when they skip rescue breaths and only do chest compressions. the priority now is keeping the blood pumping. >> you are getting the blood flowing to the brain and keeping the organs ark live.

the volume is increasing and no major slowing into the south bay. >> sounds good. we saw rain and a lot more than i expected. >> more than i expected too. a third of an inch and some of the it was heavy out in san ramon. 56 degrees in san jose and no rain right now. we have the clouds lingering, but no raindrops for the morning except in the hills of the south bay and the pass. maybe a few sprinkles and you can see the system diving into central and southern california. as high pressure builds behind it, we will see a brief warm up and waiting for tomorrow. the temperatures are starting to rise. 60s for the bay area and 68 degrees. 63 in san francisco and 65 in oakland and north bay seeing highs in the 60s and 70s. here you go. the seven-day forecast short-term and wednesday we warm up and dry out. for next weekend, more clouds and probably more rain. another soggy sunday could be in

you know it's bad when the press asks if you'd take a lie detector test. meg whitman didn't tell the truth about not voting or about how long she lived in california. she got caught in insider deals at goldman sachs. she changed her story about physically abusing an employee. she campaigned as tough as nails on immigration knowing her housekeeper of 9 years was undocumented. her tv ads have been condemned as false and misleading. and even her hometown newspaper said meg whitman has

where everyone put on pink. tape and what not. you top the get jerseys. >> yeah. >> tell us why you did this. you see video from friday night here. why did you want to do this? >> we decided to do it because it shows that we are supporting breast cancer and we are doing it for a reason, not just to put pink on, but we have some of our moms have breast cancer and we support them in their fight. >> it's a cool way. were the guys thinking i'm not going to wear pink? >> initially some of the guys were i guess i can wear it. other gis were like where is my pink jersey? >> the eventual goal is to get the jerseys, but it costs money. it costs a pretty penny, but hopefully get fund-raisers to help you. you got the opposing team to wear it as well. >> you have to be proud of your son. >> extremely proud.

friday, we told you about the far right lane approaching the high-rise. that's not big news because it was going to reopen or what we thought. the construction repair work took until sunday to fix. it's done though. a live shot shows you the nice flow of traffic westbound. all the lanes filling in with the tail lights across the flat section and an uninterrupted flow with the high-rise starting to flow. approaching this as well as 880 on the east bay quarter as you approach the transition and the construction. big slowing at the toll plaza because the lies have been turned on since just after 6:20. just starting to see the slowing across the overcrossing and all lanes across west grand towarding to build back and a 15-minute wait if you are heading over there. that's how big the back up will be. the upper deck moves into san francisco. not showing much yet.

good monday morning to you. a cool start. you will want the jacket, but for the most part you won't need the umbrella. winds mainly out of the southwest pumping in marine air and keeping temperatures cool for the area and the afternoon. it will take time to clear up. north winds will scour out the clouds and eventually we will see that as the upper level low dives into southern california. less of a threat today, but it

will be a cool afternoon as high pressure builds in and lead to a warming trend that will take us throughout middle of the week. 63 in san francisco. look at oakland. 65. warmest places out towards livermore and pleasanton. close to 70 am upper 60s and 70s. for tuesday and wednesday, inland temperatures in the 70s. it locks like another round of rain midway throughout weekend. >> san francisco is trying to bring more and film crews to the city. the city's film commission is trying to attract more productions like the filming of the harvey milk movie. they bring in a significant amount of money, however the commission faces tough challenges. there is a big misperception that there is a lack of facilities for film in san francisco and that is too expensive here. they try to say no, it's not. >> the giants are back from filly and we talked to some of

cars. two major manufacturers will start deliver of the first next month, but there is anxiety of what to do when the battery dies. today in the bay joins us live from washington, d.c. with advice from the experts. good morning, tracie. >> they are calling it range anxiety. the feeling when you are near e, almost on empty and you are not sure where the closest gas station is. owners of electric cars will have the same anxiety, but perhaps even more because there very view changing stations in the country. you guys are fortunate. in the bay area specifically near san jose there five or six of them and another in the san francisco area. not as bad as other parts of the country where you can barely find one at all. you mentioned the two new cars, the chevy volt and the nissan leaf, they get about 100 miles to a charge. the leaf or rather the volt will

switch over to gas-powered if that charge wears out, but the anxiety continues. what's an owner to do? there is an option. both cars have what's called fast charge. you can put it on fast charge and within 30 minutes to possibly a couple of hours, you can get near a full charge. that's not good news for people who don't live anywhere near a charging station and probably you will find that most people who don't live near the stations are not considering buying the new green cars. back to you. >> thanks a lot. >> we want this check in with mike and find out how the cars are getting around. you have the venetian bridge. friday we had that. >> it was thursday and a lot of fun. like tracy said, the gasoline is like a back up. it's electrical powered and then powers the battery system. that's kind of a cool option for you as well. it doesn't matter how you are powered if you are heading

northbound, it will cross the bridge. we have a minor accident there with a single car involved in the middle lane. that's your non-commute direction. it's an issue if that is your direction. the commute direction is southbound. in towards the walnut creek interchange. moving nicely and 24 itself, no major problems. deals with the westbound area. 580 showing the slowing through livermore and 680 south of the area. sunol and out of pleasanton. at least it's a clear view. rain over the weekend. >> we do. when you drive into work, it's the only time southbound 680 is not slow. the weather at least is not getting in the way. we have a cloudy start to the morning. a few showers in the far south bay. around that area diving into southern california as it continues to head to the south, chances of showers also on the

volunteers. 35 east bay charities will have a speed dating event at the david brower center. the idea is to show up to the event and you can quickly meet with charities from food bank and bicycle coalition. 33 other ones and find the charity you like best and brent and laura, make a commitment to help them out. >> we will tell you how we helped one later in the newscast. 6:49 and all the communities, if you own a home, you are responsible for keeping the trees healthy and safe in san jose. that includes the trees homeowners are required to have between the sidewalk and the road. with the rain arriving in the bay area, we have tips on how to know when to call an arborist. calling an arborist can be expensive and we want to make sure you know what to look for in case you don't need one. you want to look at the leaves

and you want them to look as they should for your kind of tree. no smaller or drier. you want to look for branchs that may be dead or dying. that could be a sign of trouble. you want to make sure there no big chunks of bark. make sure there no bohr holes. make it less safe. towards the bottom, you want to make sure there no mushroom or along the surrounding areas. that could indicate the roots are rotting. that could be trouble. that tree could fall. here are other tips you can look for. structural pruning, that big deep pruning that should happen every 4 to five years. call in the pros and make sure your tree has adequate water supply. if you are planting new or young trees, water them deeply when they are young.
