homeowners. chris sanchez joins us live with what this means for people who are trying to rebuild. >> any time tragedy strikes, the best way to help folks rebuild is to give them money. they are looking to buy out home ownerships who don't want to rebuild. those who respond quickly stand a $50,000 bonus. since the blast, many of the people wonder how they could rebuild and how much they would get if they chose to move instead. 87 families lost homes and 18 others were badly damaged. this offer to buy is the way that pg&e officials want to help people get back to normal as quickly as possible. to get the bonus of the $50,000, they have to sell within six months. if will selling price is less than what the house was worth, pg&e will pay the difference.

they call this the largest waterfront project in the city. it will alter the look of the pier. the parking lot i'm standing in between the two buildings along pier 15 and 17 will be gone. in its place as you see in the renderings will be the bay. exposure to the bay and bridges connecting the two piers. this is a $3 hundred helped mill project to mix the modern with the old with historic buildings on the pier. this new location will be more sensual than the old location in the marina district and easily accessible by bart and muni. this will allow the ships to dock here and share the research with museum visitors. >> i want to stress that the feel will be the same feel that people love. that is what it is. that doesn't go away.

>> this is a public and private partnership between the port and the city of san francisco. you may be aware, the port has been trying to revitalize the embarcadero o. private donors have already contributed more than 2/3 the cost and more than $90 million needs to be raised. they are confident that will happen. the first phase of the new exploratorium which will open on pier 15 is scheduled to open in 2013. in the meantime, the old location will be open. reporting live here in san francisco, bob redell, today in the bay. >> we are hours from the start of game three. the giants and the phillies play at 1:00 at at&t park. the game is sold out, but you can get ticks at stub hub. we checked this morning and standing room ticks are $55. just $58 for a seat. you can get a good deal on lower level tickets. bleacher and lower box left

the president is counting on hispanics to vote democrat. an earthquake rattled the city of church christ, cutting power and phone service. people into the streets weeks after a more powerful quake caused extensive damage. the magnitude 5.0 quake was one of hundreds with a magnitude 7 quake on september 4th that destroyed thousands of homes. residents of the san bruno neighborhood whose homes were damaged or destroyed are offered a buy out from pg&e. documents revealed that the homeowners who sell within six months stand to collect a $50,000 bonus. pg&e said the offer is part of a financial initiative to help the residents put their lives back together quickly. more information in a live report. one of the largest circus tents will be setting up shop.

tracy? >> good morning, everyone. you have a couple of races in california that washington and the rest of the nation are watching very closely. first of all, your senate race between carly fiorina and barbara boxer who has been a fixture here in washington for sometime. that one is extremely close right now and also jerry brown, the democrat versus meg whitman for governor. brown according to the latest polling seems to be up just slightly, but again a close race that we are watching here nationally. what appears to be happening is democrats and republicans focusing on their base, trying to make sure that those people who have made up their minds about how they will vote get out to vote. you are seeing president obama who is visiting your area on thursday and sarah palin get out and other big names. president clinton was stumping for jerry brown. michelle obama who is out on the trail. you are seeing them out at this

point. the democrats it seems are running against the economy, at least that's what the gop wants them to run against. more tough economic news. the federal reserve said factory production is down because people are not buying. that's something else they have to deal with. live from capitol hill. . >> are it's 5:44. months after the mass oil spill in the gulf, things are looking better than expected. damage to the gulf of mexico is less dramatic. most scientists think the spilled oil was simply added to water already tainted by farm run off over fishing and smaller oil spills. it didn't have a lot of impact. they will turn their attention to the ocean bottom. the concern is that oil will cause genetic mutations or weaken a species newscast gulf. bp is now in phase three of the gulf clean up.

their homes and 18 other homes were badly damaged. the offer to buy is one way pg&e officials are trying to get people back to normal as quickly as possible. to get the bonus of $50,000, homeowners have to sell within months. if the coming price is less than it was worth before the explosion, pg&e will pay the difference. there is a $50,000 offer on the table for people who want to stay and rebuild and that is good if they can finish the project within 16 months. an attorney who represents the victims tells the chronicle that the deal is not specific enough and could end up costing the homeowners the right to sue in the future, something a spokes woman refutes. any offer does not appear to move the pipeline from beneath the community as residents would like to see. as homeowners weigh their options a i panel will look at the maintenance and inspection records and act perhaps most

importantly how to make sure this doesn't happen again. back to you. good morning, everyone. apple has $51 billion in the bank. one of the things we learned as the south bay mega company talked with reporters and analysts on the phone announcing the quarterly profits. though the numbers were blowout, a fantastic rise in revenue, investors were disappointed in learning they sold fewer i pads. apple sanction over $300 a share. the take away on this is not so much apple disappointing as it was the investors getting too excited. a day after reports that facebook was sending what was supposed to be secret information to advertisers and game makers, violating their own policies, the u.s. congress is asking tough questions.
