6:01 am
low 70s in san jose. 60s later on today in oakland and san francisco. we're following some more breaking news out of san francisco. we told you about this starting at 5:25 this morning crews are on the scene of what is now a four-alarm fire. now what this is is a google image, one of those street view images of the area where the fire is. it's going on right now at a four-story apartment building. we do not have word of any injuries but are still trying to get more information. it's happening at 800 hyde near sutter street. we do have a crew on the way and are trying to get more images. this is not an actual picture, obviously, this is one of those google street views to show you where this fire is going on and some of the buildings that are in this area so we'll get more information as soon as our crew arrives. new this morning, oscar grant supporters plan to shut down the port of oakland this weekend. instead of working, thousands of port workers are expected to
6:02 am
rally at noon at oakland city hall on saturday. they want former bart police officer johannes mehserle to receive the maximum prison time after a jury convicted him of involuntary manslaughter in oscar grant's death. mehserle is set to be sentenced november 5th. three uc berkeley grads are set to stand trial in iran. shane bauer and josh fattal are imprisoned in iran. they have been there since their arrest july of last year. they released sarah shourd on bond just last month. iran says the hikers crossed their border illegally. under iranes islamic law espionage can be punished by execution. secretary of state hillary clinton says there is no basis for the trial. two teens accused of setting a san jose school on fire will be in court today. 16-year-old lazarus ravelias and 17-year-old cleford dwayne are
6:03 am
expected to have pleas. the fire caused $10 million in damage. prosecutors charged them as adults and are being held without bail. they could face life in prison. two masked men accused in a takeover robbery in the east bay are still on the loose, however we do have a better idea of what they look like. some good pictures taken from a surveillance camera. they do have masks and hoods on but concord police say the men were armed with a shotgun and pistol. they burst into two restaurants ordering employees to the ground. they allegedly took money from safes and then ran away. witnesses say both men wore masks, gloves and hoodies. now, the robberies happened monday night at the round table pizza on treat boulevard and 40 minutes later they robbed the subway sandwich shop on concord boulevard. a nonprofit group that focused on finding a missing boy in oakland is trying to start a camp in his honor. they say they're one of five
6:04 am
finalists for a $10,000 volunteer award. it helped in the search for hassani campbell. if selected, the group hopes to start a summer group that would teach survival skills and swimming to low income and at-risk students. the boy's foster parents were jailed for a few days on suspicion of murder but the d.a. decided not to press charges. the bay area's largest county is clearing the air bypassing tough new outdoor spoking restrictions. the santa clara county board of supervisors unanimously approved new laws against smoking. you cannot light up at the county fairgrounds, at indoor shopping malls, all county parks or hotels or motels. smoking is also banned within 30 feet of any outdoor service area such as atm lines or a ticket line. the new law still needs final approval next month before going into effect. bart will break ground on a controversial project. the project will cost $434
6:05 am
million and bart hasn't named the price that riders will pay. the transit agency says if more people don't ride the train to the airport compared to the current bus service, it may have to charge as much as $6 just to hop aboard. the bus ride right now costs just $3. >> for more than one person that would be pretty bad. i mean if you were traveling two or three people at a time. >> whatever they charge i'm going to pay it, so -- it's better than parking your car. >> bart says the project will create jobs. it should be finished by 2014. giants fever just keeps getting hotter and hearter. they lead 2-1 over the phillies and the talk is turning to the as for the giants. bob redell is live this morning with a look at the youngest starting pitcher on the team. bob, he was just in high school three years ago. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, brent. and for fans, especially after yesterday's shutout by the giants of the phillies, that torture that fans have been
6:06 am
griping about at least is starting to ease. you're talking about madison bumgarner who will be starting for the giants today over here at at&t park. first pitch at 4:57 in game four of the national league championship series against the phillies. and you are correct, think about it, just this past summer madison bumdpaugarner wouldn't legally been able to buy a beer at at&t park. he just turned 21 years old. his buddies on the team are expressing confidence. buster posey being one of them. cloedser brian wilson calling him a secret weapon. this morning fans here on the streets of san francisco seconding all those emotions. >> i wanted him to pitch a week ago in this game today. and bochy is doing -- he's coaching really, really smart here. really smart. i think he's matching up wits with charlie manuel here, a battle of these two managers who have been in this game for a long time. so yeah, i'm happy that he's
6:07 am
pitching today. >> reporter: at&t park lit up bright and early this morning. if you want to get into the game, there are tickets available. we checked stub hub, an online retailer. tickets at least right now are starting in the $50 to $60 range. those are your basic standing room only. to give you an idea of how the excitement for the giants has grown from yesterday to today, we went to another website called fan snap. they're a comparison shopping site for people selling tickets online. yesterday the average giant ticket for game three was running around $240, $250. today the price, the average price has jumped up to $360. wouldn't be surprised if they were to win today, even if they weren't, that price would go higher tomorrow. bob redell, "today in the bay." you might recognize the guy bumgarner faces today, it is joe blanton, formerly of the oakland a's. his last start was nearly a
6:08 am
month ago. game four starts at 4:57 this evening. probably going to have traffic backups in that area. we're already seeing one on the bay bridge this morning. >> this is unrelated but the wij wi -- bay bridge will see a lot of folks heading in for that game. the metering lights were turned on about an hour earlier than people expected so these folks did not expect to be here. they are late already. avoid the maze if you can because an earlier accident at the metering lights caused them to be turned on very early, just about 5:40 this morning. there's the slowdown off of berkeley and the berkeley curve leading back into emeryville and making its way not yet back to university avenue. but there's the slow spot. the rest of the maze approach moving smoothly. bart is a good option for you. earlier problems have cleared but we do have minor delays, ten minutes for some of the lines so if you're going to bart get to the stations early taking you under the water avoiding the bay bridge backup.
6:09 am
other folks might hit the san mateo bridge. that's showing a nice, easy drive. over the next 20 minutes we expect to see a lot more folks heading through the area. i'll keep my eyes on this part of the commute. that ripple effect hits the east bay and bleeds all over the place. nice, cool temperatures but no rain at least for probably game two of the three games here. the game tonight with the giants. >> what's the weather like? >> looks pretty good. it may be a little chilly but tomorrow might be a different story. right now 54 degrees in san jose and we do have fog set up through the santa clara valley this morning. that's a little different than the last couple of mornings where most of the fog has been right around san francisco and oakland. this morning some fog around 880. you can see traffic there picking up. northwest winds at 5. in san francisco, 56 degrees. game time temperatures, again, a later start today, we don't have that 1:00 start time today.
6:10 am
just before 5:00 in the evening and we'll be cooling down so i bet we'll see misty skies and probably some patchy clouds to hopefully cool down the phillies again at least for one more game here in san francisco. let's show you what's going on in terms of the satellite-radar view. southern california getting socked by a lot of rain and thunder. if your travel plans include l.a.x. or orange county, you will see some delays due to the weather off to our south. we have a frontal system approaching the coast. that's the reason why late tomorrow we'll see rather big changes for our forecast. today once the low clouds break up a pretty decent afternoon. it's going to be cooler than yesterday. low to mid-70s around san jose. low 60s san francisco, mid-60s around oakland. tomorrow increasing clouds during the day, chance of showers late tomorrow. we'll see if that impacts the next game. friday a few morning showers and sunday looks like a lot of rain coming in, especially for the north bay. back to you. it is 6:10 right now. bay area students are supporting bullying victims. find out how they're doing it
6:11 am
coming up. election day is coming fast. we'll take a look at some of the big races and get the truth behind some of the campaign ads coming up. 19 years ago today fire swept through the oakland hills. you'll see how some people put their lives back together after the fire. and a live look outside this morning. once again the south pbay. we'll keep you updated on your commute all day. reporting what matters to you, you're watching "today in the bay" with laura garcia-cannon, brent cannon, business and technology with scott mcgrew, and traffic with [ male announcer ] carly fiorina. she's against banning assault weapons... and that's reckless and dangerous. she's for risky new oil drilling that could threaten our jobs. fiorina's plan would mean slashing social security and medicare, which would devastate seniors. and she'd make abortion a crime. no wonder fiorina is endorsed by sarah palin.
6:12 am
carly fiorina. just too extreme for california. [ boxer ] i'm barbara boxer and i approve this message.
6:13 am
good morning to you. taking a live look outside overlooking san francisco this morning in the distance. you know, much cooler as you head out the door. i know i had to grab a thicker
6:14 am
coat as i headed out the door pretty early this morning but these are some expected highs in the bay area. san francisco 63, san jose 75 and oakland 68 degrees. 6:13 right now. bay area students will show support for gay teens by wearing purple shirts to school today. students want gay teens to know there is a supportive community of young people willing to help them through some hard times. it is called spirit day and it follows several suicides by teenagers that were bullied because they were perceived as gay. the high school says the event will help struggling gay teens shed light on the darker moments of life. new details about don't ask, don't tell. the pentagon is now telling military recruiters to accept applications from openly gay and lesbian applicants, but recruiters must tell them that the moratorium on don't ask, don't tell could be lifted at any moment. the defense department's plan to abide by a federal judge's ruling which says the ban on
6:15 am
gays serving openly in the military is unconstitutional. that ruling will be appealed at the ninth circuit court of appeals in san francisco. a stockton man says he tried to reenlist in the army yesterday but didn't have any luck. 24-year-old ryan miller tells the associated press sergeants that he spoke with told him that they had not heard about the policy change. miller is openly gay and was discharged in 2006. he says that he went to the navy recruiter next door and signed up there instead. the worst bay area fire in history started 19 years ago today. thousands of people lost their houses, dozens of people died in the oakland hills fire. but a lot of people rebuilt and put their lives back together. "today in the bay's" christie smith is live in the oakland hills and talked to a woman, one of the many who rebuilt. >> reporter: good morning to you. it took her two long years to rebuild and she did it with some of the ideas that you see at
6:16 am
this exhibit in the oakland hills. it's about fire preparedness, things you should keep in mind like keeping your vegetation low, no tall trees to catch fire. 19 years later sue piper still talks about it because she says people still need to know because, of course, disasters will always happen. during the oakland hills fire she says she fled with only a few things. she and her daughter jumped in their car. they say they saw people running past them on foot. she said the two of them kept talking during their very slow ride to keep from panicking. now, when she was allowed back home a couple of days later, she said there was really nothing left. it was an emotional time, but she and her family survived. she says one of the toughest parts actually was dealing with her insurance. through it all, she says a lot has changed in terms of keeping defensible space and property inspections that go on now, but still she worries. >> the problem is that people
6:17 am
move away, new people move in and the memory gets dim. there isn't -- with fire. there isn't much you can do about the weather and there isn't much you can do about the topography, but the one thing you can do something about is your vegetation or your fuel load. it's not just the vegetation, it's also how your house is built. and so it is really, really important that people recognize they have to be vigilant. >> reporter: now, her husband helped to maintain the firestorm memorial garden around here where less than two weeks ago a bronze sculpture has vandalized. just yesterday volunteers were out there working to install better lights, and they say they're working on getting some sort of security out there as well. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> hard to believe it's been 19 years. thank you. it's 6:17 right now. changes at starbucks this morning designed to get you to stay there a little bit longer. scott mcgrew joins us with more. >> good morning, laura. starting today starbucks will
6:18 am
offer interesting content to people using ipads and laptops, really anything that connects to their free wi-fi. you can access free music, movies and e-books sort of like an itune that say works only in the store. starbucks has new competition from places like mcdonald's, which also offers wi-fi and fancy coffee. steve jobs will take the stage later this morning for the once in every few months announcement, this time talking about a new operating system for the mac computer and perhaps a new macair notebook. apple, which dropped the word "computer" from its name is refocusing on the mac after the runaway success of iphone and it pad. you can get bernie madoff's monogrammed slippers at a new york city auction along with his wife's 10.5 karat ring. the auction takes place next month. at the last auction a million
6:19 am
dollars was raised to help pay back at least a fraction of the victims of his giant ponzi scheme. and news.com reports this morning google is going to quit scanning for wi-fi networks as it drives its cars around mapping roads. they had been recording the names of wi-fi networks as a way of improving maps. that mapping lets your iphone figure out where it is even if it can't see gps. google had gotten into lots of trouble in several countries after it revealed it was recording people's personal data. it was sort of an accident. other companies map wi-fi networks, it happens all the time. if it's done the right way, it is, laura, harmless. well, the bay area is getting ready for a visit from the president. he'll be in town tomorrow and friday for a couple of campaign stops. president obama will be here to support jerry brown and barbara boxer who are both locked in
6:20 am
tight races. just one of the many stops he's making in the buildup to the november election. the president will be in oregon and washington state today where a few other democrats are in tight races. the big concern for the white house is keeping the democratic majority on capitol hill. a new nbc news poll shows six in ten americans are not happy with the way the country is being run right now and they are looking for a change. that change could be putting the republicans back in power. radio stations in nevada just pulled a campaign ad that told latino voters not to vote this election day. the ad was slated to run in california as well. senate majority harry reid's camp is trying to link the ads to an opponent, sharron angle. a republican group called latinos for reform paid for the ad. the spanish ad said don't vote, it's the only way to send them a clear message. the races for california's governor and senate seat are still too close to call. 13 days to go till the election
6:21 am
and candidates are doing everything they can to get those extra few votes. we want to check in with "today in the bay's" political analyst larry gersten this morning. you know, i think laura touched on an important point and is part of what is happening when we see president obama and clinton coming. they have got to get the vote out. every single one could count. some people will go this is a non-big election year, i already voted the folks in that i want so i don't need to turn out this time but that's exactly the sentiment they're trying to overcome. >> yeah. the president is not at the top of the ticket and for that reason the turnout is always lower in a midterm election. what they're trying to do right now is inspire the base. the democrats get out the democrats, the republicans get out the republicans. but there are two groups beyond that that we want to look at. first, latinos and, two, independents. latinos are as likely to be as much as 20% of the vote this time and they have traditionally have gone democratic. so the idea is to get them out. independents, we don't know
6:22 am
where they're going to go. they may be tilting toward the whitman side so the whitman folks are working very hard on them. those will be the two cohorts or groups that these candidates will be pounding on in the days to come. >> let's talk about the new ads that are running. i just saw a new one from jerry brown targeting whitman and kind of painting herself as an outsider. people are saying in this election it's about cleaning house and putting new people in but that's what governor schwarzenegger is doing and brown is saying, look, we put in fresh blood before and look where it got us. do you want to do this again. >> it's a very clever ad. it shows schwarzenegger saying a few words and whitman saying exactly the same words and it does it again and again and again. the idea is this, schwarzenegger has a very low public approval rating. 20%. so if you don't like him, the ad is implying, why would you like her. and we'll see how this resonates. it comes at a critical time.
6:23 am
the voting has already been in process for two weeks. half the voters will vote early. so the question now remains who will be able to inspire people or discourage them, as it might be in nevada, in the next 13 days. very, very close. >> i want to jump to the senate race between carly fiorina and barbara boxer. kind of the same thing, the incumbent, the established politician versus a newcomer. in essence you could make the same argument. >> yeah. the nice thing about those race is those candidates are even further apart idea lodgeally. you name it, those two are like oil and water. so the voters have a very clear choice. but this is an anti-incumbent year. boxer knows this, the democrats throughout the country and the republicans for that matter know it. so anyone who's a democrat or republican and an incumbent faces difficulty. we're going to have to see whether boxer for the fourth time can fend off a challenger. it is her greatest challenge to date.
6:24 am
>> where do you see movements like the tea party playing in this. some people are saying in one hand they're splitting and dividing the republican vote owe that could be damaging to the republicans. on the other hand they get to that notion of kind of energizing people that are upset with the status quo and they are going to the polls which is what they were mentioning they're trying to do on the democratic side as well. >> you have to look at the tea party on a state-by-state basis. in delaware it's not working at all, we know that with christine o'donnell. but if you look at nevada, at kentucky, those are states where the tea party is doing very well. again, they're tapping into voter anxiety, they're tapping into a bad economy. the other thing the tea party has to worry about is staying close to those fiscal issues. every time they get on to another issue such as a social issue, whether it's something like abortion or something like that, that's when it starts to fray. so the more they stay tight, the better they tend to do. but it's a state-by-state issue. >> good to talk to you once again, appreciate it.
6:25 am
now "today in the bay" traffic with mike inouye. good morning. it is 6:24. i want you to look at the screen because this is a little unusual even for this time of day. it's 6:24. the metering lights have been on since about 5:40, 5:35 this morning. an earlier accident at one of the metering lights has caused those to be turned on very early and this is the backup now coming off of the berkeley curve. there's a new disabled vehicle somewhere in lane 10 just off the fast track lane so watching for further delays. we see the backup extending out of emeryville, very slow. now slowing in both directions right around university avenue. but the big brunt of this slowing coming out of emeryville down to the berkeley curve, the maze itself and out caldecott tunnel. 24 is moving relatively smoothly, okay on the east bay so far that. will be a major 38 for folks heading into the city. hyde street is closed between bush and sutter because of this apartment fire we have been following. it is closed for a few-block
6:26 am
area so use maybe jones or polk as your alternate to hyde street if you're heading south through the city in that area. also the giants game tonight at 4:20 so you'll see a lot of traffic on the bay bridge approaching the city. the instance tent at the toll plaza will cause a shift. we'll see additional congestion. we'll be back after the break with more news and your forecast.
6:27 am
6:28 am
welcome back. 6:28. quick check of your forecast this morning. a lot of fog around the bay area. 55 san jose to get your morning started. as we head toward lunchtime, 60s for most of the bay area. mid-70s san jose. 60s san francisco and oakland. late tomorrow, though, the rain starts to come back into the es the time i 6:28 we'll have more news coming up after this short break.
6:29 am
you know it's bad when the press asks if you'd take a lie detector test. meg whitman didn't tell the truth about not voting or about how long she lived in california. she got caught in insider deals at goldman sachs. she changed her story about physically abusing an employee. she campaigned as tough as nails on immigration knowing her housekeeper of 9 years was undocumented. her tv ads have been condemned as false and misleading. and even her hometown newspaper said meg whitman has demonstrated "a loose relationship with the truth"
6:30 am
new this morning, anxious giants fans cautiously hoping that all that torture is about
6:31 am
to come to an end. i'm bob redell. we're taking you live outside at&t park where today it's game four against the phillies. iran plans to put all three uc berkeley hikers on trial. see how that's supposed to affect the woman released from prison. and a live look at the san mateo bridge. i'll give you two reasons why this bridge will see much more traffic today and a milestone or at least a stepping stone for a major east bay commute spot. we'll talk about progress since and progress in the future on "today in the bay." from nbc bay area, reporting what matters to you, this is "today in the bay." and we have another update on that breaking news that we're following out of san francisco. kind of a google map here look at where it is. a four-alarm fire that we first told you about at 5:25 this morning. it's at an apartment building on
6:32 am
hyde street in the knob hill area. so far we do not have any reports of injuries but we do have a crew on the scene gathering more information trying to get details about how many potential units might be affected and whether or not there are injuries and the latest state of the firefighting efforts. as soon as we get those new details for you, we will tell you about them. also new this morning, nbc news has confirmed that two uc berkeley graduates being held in iran are now set to stand trial. the country accuses shane bauer and josh fattal of espionage. under iran's islamic law they could be executed if they're found guilty. iran says the men crossed the border illegally to spy while they were hiking last year. iran also says they expect sarah shourd to stand trial. they released her from prison last month but they see it as though she's out on bail and should return for the trial. many experts do not expect that to happen, but we are in contact and trying to get some information out of the u.s. state department. as soon as we can get some more
6:33 am
details and clarification on that, we'll bring you that as well. giants fever is turning to world series dreams. the magic number now is two. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in san francisco with how some of the fans are handling what they call giants torture. >> reporter: given the torture they have been through in months of late, good morning, laura, the sense -- i've gone from talking to fans outside at&t park is they are confident but they don't want to come out and necessarily say the giants are going to go to the world series for fears the torture will continue and it will jinx the team. >> the cart before the horse here, you understand. i have faith in them. they're playing one game at a time the best way they know how is their pitching. and i mean i'm excited inside, but i don't want to get too excited because it's been torture. >> reporter: you sound pretty confident. what gives you concern, if there is any? >> the hitting.
6:34 am
he probably messed up the lineup. if it wasn't for cody ross, we'd probably won tuesday 2-1. >> reporter: coming up within the half hour we'll have fans' thoughts on 21-year-old madison bumgarner taking to the mound starting the game tonight and also on what it's going to cost you if you want to get a seat inside at&t park for the first pitch. game four against the phillies tonight at 4:57. reporting live from outside at&t park, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> it's been fun to watch. thanks, bob. a rare appearance and a big ovation for barry bonds at at&t park. he and several members of the 2003 world series team were on hand. look at barry, jumping around and having a good time, smiling and basking in all of the cheers. the fans do adore him. he is the career and single season home run leader. the giant did not resign him after the 2008 season amid
6:35 am
allegations of steroid use. we have a lot more giants coverage coming up, including another live report from outside of at&t park. and we continue to follow breaking news this morning. another update out of san francisco this morning. the fire is happening on knob hill. we've got reporter kris sanchez live on the scene with the very latest. kris. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. this is absolutely the worst way to wake up in the morning, a fire in your building. lots of folks are standing outside. you can see tons of smoke still pouring out. the good news is that there are no flames pouring out. firefighters are still trying to finally get this knocked town and fully under control. the folks who live in this building, many of them students at one of the nearby art academies, are standing around wondering what's going to be left when this is over. a few people have been transported to the hospital at st. francis memorial. the firefighters are putting water on it. it is a multi-floor building and
6:36 am
it looks to be like it is in very bad shape. the buildings here in knob hill very close together and the fire appears to have spread to one of the buildings behind this particular apartment complex -- or apartment building, i should say, 824 hyde street. this is between sutter and bush and it is completely shut town. there are emergency crews lining the streets here. we have fire, ambulances, other folks here responding to this fire and certainly lots of folks who are looking to see what happened and whether or not this fire could spread. we're going to try to get more details for you and bring them to you in just a few minutes. >> thank you, kris, we appreciate that news as it's breaking this morning. another fire that we were keeping track of, two teens accused of setting a san jose school on fire will actually be in court today. 16-year-old lazarus ravalias and a 17-year-old are expected to enter their pleas. they are accused of setting this fire at trace elementary school back in july. it caused $10 million in damage.
6:37 am
prosecutors charged them as adults and they're being held without bail. they could potentially get life in prison. it's 6:36. we want to check your morning commute with mike inouye, including probably some delays on surface streets around that fire this morning. >> definitely hyde street is closed between bush and sutter so keep that in mind. you can use polk or jones as your alternates. now over here getting into the city we have a big problem because of an earlier accident at the toll plaza metering lights just past the toll plaza itself. it caused the metering lights to be turned on right around 5:40 this morning. the bulk of the slowing coming through emeryville, really slams down as you're leaving berkeley westbound 80. your east shore freeway. this is causing a significant delay. but the rest of the maze is moving smoothly. just the tail end of slowing for 580 coming off 24 but we're starting to see the ripple effect. as we have a big backup here, we see more of the maze starting to
6:38 am
back up. i'm going to suggest bart as an alternate. earlier problems we had at civil center and the montgomery station, those stations have reopened. we have a ten-minute delay on some of the lines because of earlier equipment problems but overall the system is moving smoothly and it's a great alternate going under the water into the city because of all this backup that's expected in this area. 6:38 right now. it's breast cancer awareness month and we have another special guest coming up. and a fight spills from the football field into the crowd. see what sparked a football brawl. and it's round four before the giants and phillies. a preview is coming up. looks like we'll see cool temperatures around game time and we're seeing big changes coming soon to your forecast. we're talking rain coming back. we'll walk you through the changes coming up next "today in the bay." reporting what matters to you, you're watching "today in the bay" with laura garcia-cannon, brent cannon, business and technology with scott mcgrew, and traffic with mike inouye.ey
6:39 am
6:40 am
6:41 am
good morning to you. 6:41. we're waking up to quite a bit of fog, including san jose, 54 degrees, 56 in oakland, northwest wind at 5. into san francisco we're seeing fog, 56 degrees. also watching the weather conditions around that fire, four-alarm fire burning and knob hill, winds 5 to 15 miles per

an easy decision to do that. it turned out to be a fruitful decision because they found a second tumor during my surgery. >> which was good that you made that decision as well. you're hearing more and more people making that choice, most likely because they have a strong history of breast cancer in their family, are you not, doctor? >> that's correct. >> now, you used a very innovative, fairly new and you're doing it right here in the silicon valley, of using -- explain to me, fat from different parts of the body to rep reconstruct? >> yes, laura. as you know, breast reconstruction is a critical part of a woman's recovery. in the past to get really natural results was very involved using flaps from other parts of the body, very time-consuming and difficult procedures. using the patient's own fat with the assistance of quality implants that are available today, you can obtain results that will rival that of using these difficult flap procedures without scars. >> does it add extra complications at all? >> no.
6:48 am
>> which is good. >> it's less dplikcomplicated. >> you're happy with the results? >> i'm thrilled. >> and cancer-free. >> cancer-free is the most exciting part but then on top of it to feel like i have such a great end result. dr. berkowitz is just amazing. >> and it's just a couple of years you've been doing it. >> fast grat grafting has been a century but it's been difficult to get good results. a company has made much more reliable ways of transferring that fat and getting good takes of these grafts. >> and you are as well making a big difference by sharing your story. it is breast cancer awareness month but be healthy the whole year. thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you. now "today in the bay" traffic with mike inouye.
