of brotherly love. they are headed off to philadelphia trying to wrap this up. they won't get much of a welcome for the giants. this is time to step up to the plate an win. game six could clinch a world series bid for the team. jonathan sanchez will be on the mound for the orange and black in a pitching battle. who is on third? manager, bruce bochy says he knows but isn't giving any clues. the giants will have limited practice time because the plane here was delayed in taking off because of the president's bay area visit. air force one tied up a few of the runways. the team went right from the airport directly to their hotel. today's matchup was initially set for 1:00 this afternoon. now, the game will be played at 5:00 pacific. that's because the yankees were eliminated last night. if the giants win tonight, they will face off against the texas rangers wednesday here in san francisco for game one of the world series.

wife. he had access to the chemicals as part of his job. ritten house is not a suspect in his wife's death. the prime suspect was shot by police in august. pg&e will move the pipeline that nearly blew up a san breaux know neighborhood. where will it go? that is on the minds of many people. moving line 132 will be a difficult task. the utility was supposed to show six supposed routes for the pipeline. now rs the company says it is not ready to do that. the california public utility commission, the cpuc says it does not have the authority on relocating gas pipelines and neither does the federal government. cities and counties are able to weigh in if the pipeline crosses county rights of way or roadways. the menu is changing for outdoor diners in san francisco. starting tomorrow, smoking off the table. diners cannot light up anywhere where food is served. it will be up to restaurant

managers to clear the air. if the customers light up, the restaurant faces a $500 fine. restaurant operators say it is unfair and they may get burned. >> shared, maybe. as long as you have the proper signage up, why should it all be on the restaurant? why shouldn't the people doing the violating have to pick up part of the fine. >> the department of public health says it doesn't plan to hand out fines right away. they are going to give diners and restaurant owners a little time to get used to the no-smoking rule. durham your high school homecoming dance? most of the students at san jose high school will not because they can't go. 500 students got tickets but the other 75% will be on the outside looking in. the school says it will only pay 12 teachers to chaperone. so it had no choice but to limit the number of students at the homecoming dance.

trash crisis for years, because collectors stopped picking up trash when the dumps are full. they say the government will take over management of the dump and blame poor condition of the dump by local operators. three american hikeers detained in iraq were on the iraqi side of the border according to a u.s. military report. the report was posted on line by the wikileaks site it was written on july 31st of last year. it says the hikers ignored warnings about the travels. the report also predicted that iran would accuse the three of spying, which, of course, it later did. military experts say that the document is a field report and not meant as a definitive account of what happened. it is among nearly 400,000 secret u.s. military documents revealed by wikileaks. >> this is a big shark. to inflict this kind of a wound, it probably was a great white. they are not very common in california.

>> not very common but in this case, deadly. an experienced, 19-year-old body surfer is dead after he was bitten and dragged under water by a shark. this morning, u.c. santa barbara students are mourning the loss of their classmate, lucas ransom. the shark went on his leg and ripped it you off his pelvis. >> the friend was surfing. the victim was boogie boarding, saw his friend go over water, came up, something was wrong. noticed he had been attacked by a shark. >> his friend says that his last words to his surfing buddy were, help me, dude. the friend dragged him to the shore where he later died. as "today in the bay's" beverly white reports, ransom was a talented athlete who had been haled as a hero in a dramatic water rescue just three years ago. >> reporter: former senior life guard turned sheriff's deputy

game in cal. look at the clouds. it is dark out there as we look out over oakland. the east bay hills are going to get a lot of rain today. we will get some into the north end of the bay. same for the south end of the bay. we look out over san jose. a lot of cloud cover. the rains come through the santa clara valley have been very light. that will change as we go through the evening and into tomorrow. let me show you the radar. within the past hour, you can see the energy just really coming through in pockets as we come on here. this is also something to point out. snow across the sierra, gusty winds as well. if you are headed up there for the weekend, you will need extra time and the chains. we have rain coming through santa rosa 101 down through nevada and the east side of the bay. look at all the green popping up on the east side. santa rosa, rain at times. if you are traveling south into the city, the roads are going to be wet and slick. heavy rain from concord over to walnut creek and danville. once you get down into fremont, hayward, newark, union city,

spotty showers. look at san jose. nothing coming through right now. maybe just light mist. the temperatures are in the 50s. we will warm up only another 7 to 10 degrees. tomorrow's rain is going to tap into warmer weather. tomorrow, temperatures will come up. it will feel muggier. this is the big story. this is the storm that's coming in tomorrow. it is capping into what was once a typhoon. guess where that is all coming? right to the bay area. what we are getting today is the first round. the next one comes in tomorrow, especially during the afternoon and into the north end of the bay. so for today, plan on some umbrellas, layers, rain, about an inch or so today across the north bay hills. a quarter inch to half an inch. tomorrow, 2 to 5 inches of rain. this will do quite a number. this storm we typically see close to february. we are getting it rather early.

we are also going into a la nina. when we get that, we are typically cooler than average and have more rain than average. we will see if it pans out. this is certainly an indication of that. this is 9:00 a.m. saturday. heavy rain the north end of the bay. 1:00 p.m., rain for the north end of the bay. santa clara valley and east bay, very light. by 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00, there is the rain for chris's friend for her birthday party. sunday, 7:00 a.m., look what's coming down, yellows and reds for the north end of the bay. that is where we have the 2 to 5 inches o raves expected by the time we get into monday morning. monday morning, a couple of scattered showers. most of it again is tomorrow afternoon. highs today 50s and 60s. tomorrow, that will tap into warmer air and good solid rain coming through. tomorrow, a rainy one. tonight, halloween in los gatos. i will be there. those little pets will get wet.

fee or rhea could decide whether republicans take control of both chambers of congress. they would need to win ten senate seats, now held by democrats, one of them being barbara boxer's seat. the latest polls show boxer with a slight lead. the republican party is pumping money into fiorina's campaign to keep the race close during the last days. three east bay cities are set to roll something new to voters on election day, something called rank choice voting. instead of casting one vote for a favorite candidate, voters pick their top three candidates. oakland voters will use the new voting system. critics think it could be too confusing. a high profile mayoral race is underway in oakland. it could mean that a voters number three choice could end up winning. it will also be used in berkley and san leandro. it eliminates the need for expensive runoff election. air force one is becoming

something of a regular sighting at sfo. the white house first lady, michelle obama, will be in san francisco monday night to attend a fund-raiser for barbara boxer. it will be the first lady's second trip to the bay area since her husband took office. the president just left san francisco yesterday morning. still ahead on "today in the bay," it is one thing to root for the orange and black but we explore the links that superstitious fans are willing to go to give the giants a playoff boost.

oakland, same story here all the way over to sonoma, cloud cover here. a lot of clouds over the bay area. some producing a little bit of rain. same for the south end of the bay. there is sonoa there, pretty calm. a few light sprinkles. here is the radar. we will start off with a one-hour loop just to show you what has been coming through the bay area most of this morning. if you haven't stepped out, if you are about to hop in the car or get over to public transit, you will need the umbrella. they are wet up in through ukiah ya down through fnevada 101 through napa and vallejo. at times, heavy for concord and walnut creek into the hills. we were just talking about the rain coming through here. you have showers that will come on and off all day long. tomorrow, a consistent, steady

rains coming down and heavy. there is danville, concord. we talked about 680 getting rain. right over to livermore. a little bit of a break. fremont, you have some. the rain has now moved off into the hills. this is the storm coming through tomorrow. notice this large fetch of moisture. it's a lot warmer tapping in subtropical moisture. that holds a lot of moisture. it is pointed directly at the bay areas we go through tomorrow. what's p haing today, the first one is coming through. adding the primer before the paint, if you will. getting things ready nice and juicy. the second one comes through and gives us all the steady rain. for today, with the rain in place, a quarter to half an inch, for most bay area locations. that hose gets pointed directly at us and the storm comes over us. a little warmer tomorrow. it will be tapping into that subtropical moisture. 2 to 5 inches for the north bay hills. that's a lot of rain in a short amount of times.
