bay. >> it's moving in right now. let's take you into oakland and berkeley and you can see pretty heavy showers around 880 and 80 as well. close to 15 miles per hour. you can see the showers approaching as well by concord and antioch and a few more showers west of hayward. not so much in the south bay, but the line continues to advance through the morning commute. the other item to watch, they may fire off thundershowers. we are seeing those offshore and those will track our way this afternoon. the temperatures are a bit cooler than the warm day we had yesterday. the raindrops and the clouds will be running cooler. we have rain today. we will let you know what to expect in your halloween plans in a few minutes. >> halloween is very important.

coverage. bart marks a milestone. u.s. representative john gar mendy will join lawmakers in pittsburgh to extend the train system into aspect ok. e bart is eastern contra costa county bart. it will extend 10 miles and it's expected to provide more than 600 jobs during construction and 40 to 80 job when is e bart is in service. it's expected to be completed in 2015. this morning, san francisco mayor gavin newsom will head across the bay bridge to cal to stump for votes in his effort to become lieutenant governor. he will join democrats at a get out the vote rally. uc berkeley one of several campuses that newsom is expected

today. a suspected leader of a street gang is in custody. hayward police arrested 22-year-old samuel at a home in modesto. he faces several charges of drug trafficking. another suspected gang leader, ruben chavez ran from a house in man ticka. police believe they were involved in a homicide in las vegas as well as other crimes. four fremont middle school students are recovering from injuries in a bad car crash. they were hit while walking down a sidewalk. a driver had lost control and it happened at scott creek road. two of the horner junior high students suffered skull fractures. another needs stitches. no charges have been filed against the driver. a trial begins minute for a sexual ra haszment against the

department. one of her supervisors made inappropriate sexual advances towards her and when she complained, her boss and others in the department retaliated by filing unjustified investigations against her. she quit in july after being stripped of her duties with the canine unit. they said they treated her fairly and accused of making the advances was properly disciplined. another burger beef in walnut creek. they want to block a proposed mcdonald's drive through restaurant on citrus circle and oak grove road. the intersection is also the entrance to the woodlands neighborhood. they say a drive through will change the character of the area and they are worried about traffic and noise a mcdonald's would generate. the city is studying the manner. folks are proposing an in and out burger for the same reason. it's a big weekend for sweets.

streets will be filled with kids and parents can make sure it's a safe night. christie kmith is live with tips to keep your kids safe. christie? rep>> reporter: we are in the glenview neighborhood and it's dark and hilly. this would be a good example to talk about safety for your kids on halloween, especially when all they want to do is run to the next house to get more candy. according to the cdc, about 84% of accidents involving kids on halloween happen at non-intersections. some kids are choosing to cross in the middle of the street. another sobering number is that car-related fatalities jump about 30% on halloween weekend. the key here according to those who look into it is setting ground rules on what is and is not acceptable and increasing

visibility on your child. here are some ideas according to the experts. you want to use a flashlight or something bright that blinks to make them more visible. trick or treat on bright streets that you can that are well-lit and only approach houses that are well-lit. in 15 or 20 minutes, we will talk about ideas and things that you can do with the big heavy bag of candy. i was speaking with my photography who said his son came home with about 20 pounds of candy. that's after steve skimmed off the top for himself. he had good ideas of what they did with it. that's the latest from here reporting live in oakland, today in the east bay. >> my family we call that the dad tax. >> we have the dad tax definitely. my kid is getting smarter. there is a lot of candy he

you will find wet roads around the east bay. concord about to see the rain in the next ten minutes or so in san francisco and san leandro light showers. not so much in san jose, but towards the end of the commute, the rain is approaching the south bay. cold unstable air for the afternoon. combine daytime heating and we could see a chance of isolated thundershowers for the afternoon. an interesting day to say the least. all-around the east bay and the coast will see highs in the upper 50s. today will be one of the wetter days. lingering showers expected to kickoff the weekend for saturday and showers for the far north bay on sunday. halloween will be dry. look at the temperatures inland. trivalley, mid- to upper 70s early next week. >> thank you much. ditching the front desk. see the growing trend that makes checking in easier for hotel guests.

terms of weather headlines. rain for the east bay and pushing south through the afternoon. we are going have to watch fur thundershowers. the weekend will start off with more showers, but halloween looks dry. you can see the loop showing you all the rain from san francisco over towards oakland and berkeley. good down pours. that will follow you up towards the delta. there is the delta towards fairfield and right around ve nearbyia. wait about a half hour or so and the rain will spill into the south bay. temperatures with the cloud and it is raindrops, not as warm as yesterday. we did manage upper 70s around the bay area. mild, but not as warm. low 60s for richmond and oakland 65. mid 60s for san ramon and pittsburgh. rain at times with a slight chance of thunder.

the nasdaq was up to 2507. mgm studios voted on whether to send the company into bankruptciy that would give them 95% control that produced such hits as star trek and run day to day operations. they are trying to force a merger of mgm and lion's gate. it remains to be seen how the story will end. >> stunning new information on how many families have been hit by job losses. a survey released by a san jose state research center shows two out of five households were hit by job losses since the recession began. slightly more than half said they or someone in their family still had not found a new job. 42% or more positive say the current business conditions are better than a year ago.

children on also and carrying a flashlight and making sure that they are bright and they have something perhaps reflective on their costume to make sure they can be seen. specifically by cars because apparently that's a big issue. you also want to make sure you set the ground rules before they run down to the next house like crossing intersections. make sure they know to do it safely with an adult. the cdc said 84% of accidents involving kids happen at non-intersections. of course once you are home safe, what do you do with the boat load of candy for your child's health and teeth? one halloween mom expert is suggesting that you only allow about two to three pieces of candy per day and that's after meals and suggests donating candy for other things. trade it in for toys. dentists have options as well.

you saw what christie was wearing with the rain slicker and you need it towards berkeley this morning. you can see the heavier batches of rain towards the north and east getting into the berkeley hills and approaching st. marys. right around the bridge, a good down pour to the north and east and trivalley with clouds spilling in and the raindrops for the moment holding off. they should be on the approach in the next half hour. temperatures we are talking 60s from the east bay and beyond. low 60s around richmond and oakland. mid 60s across the hilltops of the east bay. the showers will carry over into saturday, but the trend will be drier. halloween looks fine. we will be drying out and warming up early next week. >> coming up, the san francisco giants accused of using stero s steroids. we will tell you which one. and another. just a dishonest politician, trying to hide his record of failure. the real brown plan?
