roadway. thank you for joining us on this saturday moerng. i'm kris sanchez with "today in the bay" meteorologist, craig herrera. right around halloween, people want a bff as a meteorologist. >> the forecast is good. some of the showers coming throug thkris, a couple of them lingering into the east side of the bay, well inland and closer to the valley. closer to fairfield. headed up 80. you will have showers. snow? the sierra as well. we do have delays at sfo, 57 minutes for arriving flights due to low ceilings. prepare and call ahead of time. we will have a couple of scattered showers at 8:00 a.m. noon, a couple of scattered lingering showers, north end of the bay. not a whole lot. a little bit. the rest of us are clearing out through 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, the big day, looks like it will be dry. i will have more details coming

up. we begin with developing news. right now, 16 people are in the hospital. two of them in critical condition after a concert at the kou palace. they are being treated for drug overdoses. >> we saw a lot of altered levels of consciousness, inability to maintain their own airway. a lot of vomiting. >> any idea what kind of drugs were used? >> we are getting from the police department and from the local people a lot of ghp, cocaine, lsd and then alcohol. >> all 16 people went to the sub sonics spookfest sponsored by live 105 radio station. we have contacted live 105 but they have not returned our request just yet. several djs performed at the concert but it was not build as

a rave. this is the second following a music event at the palace. this is a video from five months ago to the day when nine victims were hospitalized following a rave at the very same venue. two of the people died as a result of the drug use at that party. this morning, a pregnant woman is recovering from a gunshot wound after she and two other people were shot outside a movie theater in the peninsula. this happened near the strint theaters. police say the suspect and one of the victims bumped into each other and then got into a scuffle. the suspect pulled the gun and shot all three victims before running away through a pedestrian tunnel leading to a nearby b.a.r.t. station. all of the victims, including the pregnant woman's unborn child are expected to survive. so far, no one has been arrested. a san francisco man, who deputies say savagely beat a south bay priest at his lows gatos retirement home is out of jail on $25,000 bail. the 65-year-old priest molested

him and his brother when they were kids 35 years ago. he attacked the reverend in front of a witness in a small room connected to the lobby of a retirement home in los gatos. witnesses say he punched the priest in his face and all over his body until the priest went down. then, he took off. >> he shows up in front of other people and starts attacking the father with closed fists until he goes down to the floor. >> by the way, in 1998, lynch and his brother were awarded $625 after suing the jesuits over this abuse. he never faced any cell charges. >> the police are trying to figure out whether a teenager died in a murder/suicide pact with his twin brother. they found the 15-year-old's

body hanging from a branch in a ravine near hayward high school. his body was found after his twin brother broke into a nearby home and tried to set it on fire. the officers say the teen stabbed himself with two knives and screened shoot me at responding officers. the armed teen lunged at them but they were able to use their tazor to bring them down. >> no question, the tazor saved this young man's life on that day. had there not been a tazor, they would have been forced to use their firearms. that would have been more tragic. >> a note left behind by one of the boys said they were unhappy and wanted to disappear. the surviving brother remains in the hospital with a self--inflicted puncture lung. san bruno fire victims say they are feeling the burn again. they met at a community meeting to learn more about dealing with agencies like the irs and

insurance companies and the tax assessors office. the irs says that the money that p ge&e has given to them may be taxable. it is a complicated maze that involves a lot of red tape and some victims compare it to having a full-time job. >> it adds a lot of stress. it is bad enough to lose everything you have and then all of the sudden find out the moneys that you did receive from the entity that actually caused that could be taxed. >> eight people died in that san brie know explosion. four people still remain in the burn unit. starting monday, san carlos police officers will bm san mateo county sheriff deputies. after a year of negotiatations, a five-year contract begins where san mateo will provide lae enforcement services for san carlos. they pay san mateo $7 million almost annually and save $2 million each year by not having their own police department. many of the former san carlos

police officers will be assigned to work at the county jail. then, those officers will eventually be eligible for patrol, investigations or narcotics task force duty. daycare could get tougher for many california parents monday. that's when the funding for the welfare to work program goes away. the governor slashed that funding when he signed the latest state budget. it helped the parents of about 55,000 kids afford child care. these are the working poor. state assemblyman, jim beals, says they have allocated some money to ever could the next three months but he says there is a catch. >> it is only good for the kids that are zero to five. it doesn't take care of the kids that are over five. so now we are faced with those kids getting cuts november 1st. >> beal says that state lawmakers plan to propose refunding the cuts to that program in december. it is too late to mail in your ballot to the mid-term

welcome back, looking live at san jose where you might feel a couple of sprinkles. they are moving out of the way. we could see a nice halloween forecast. we will talk to craig in a bit. officials in the u.s. and yemen are searching for terrorists that tried to mail two bombs to a chicago area synagogue. they seized packages containing explosives on cargo planes in the united arab emritz. they spent the day searching planes and partial trucks for other explosives. president obama said the attacks were a credible terrorist threat. >> to take whatever steps are necessary to protect our citizens from this type of attack. >> it is not yet clear what the packages were intended to do or what the target specifically was. preliminary tests indicated the packages contained the explosives petn, which is the same chemical used in the

attempted christmas day bombing last year. san francisco international airport say there are no changes to the security because of this threat but they are taking increased security measures, some visible, some not. area passengers say they are being extra vigilent and most are comfortable with the security in place. >> i fly a lot. it is a good sign that they caught the bags. good thing that they are finding them. >> tsa says there is heightened cargo screening and additional security at airports but they don't specify which airports those are. imagine someone hacking into your facebook account and posting elicit photos of you to all of your friends. this is exactly what a man is accused of doing to thousands of people across the couldn't interest i. the suspect is 23-year-old george bronc. he was arrested yesterday on 30 felony accounts including i.d. theft, extortion and child pornography. investigators with the chp say

that bronc would break into people's e-mail account and take images and post those images on to the victim's facebook account and lock them out of their facebook account. in many cases, the images were nude or semi-nude photos. this has to be the absolute worst investigations my officers have been involved in. >> he and his parents have declined to comment. the folks who were targeted in this facebook scam. they say that their son is innocent and he is not responsible for hacking into those accounts. now, when trick-or-treating this weekend keeps safety in front of minds, children are four-times more likely to be in a motor vehicle on halloween than any other day of the year according to the national highway traffic safety administration. the combination of children walking after dark, candy and vision compromising costumes are dangerous. here are three safety tips that you can follow. one, parents are encouraged to walk with their children door to

into the southwest. if you are headed over to fairfield or headed up 80 want to do some skiing, showers on the way there. once you get there, a couple of snow showers as well. across the south end of the bay, some right over the santa cruz mountains. 17 over the hill into santa cruz, tap kappa tola, a couple scattered showers. if you are expecting somebody in for the weekend, call ahead of time. they might be delayed. if you are leaving, sometimes a little delay in catching up as well. that will be for the morning hours. as we go through the rest of jast noon, we are going to continue to see some scattered clouds moving through. this is the tail end of a front coming through this afternoon. this is the storm that's coming through now. i talked about the little bit of moisture coming around. this is requesticily moving over to nevada. the tail end of this storm will pass over us later this afternoon. give us the chance for a couple of scattered showers into the north end of the bay. no the a whole lot but a little bit. what we will see are more clouds moving on through later this afternoon into the evening. a couple of scattered showers,

we are mainly in the 50s. we will warm up another 10 degrees from where we sit right now. low and mid-60s for afternoon highs. it will be dry. more on the seven-day forecast. we will take a look at the texas forecast in a couple of minutes. decision 2010, election day is tuesday. candidates are doing what they can to get out and get your vote. in oakland, democratic candidate for governor, jerry brown, will rally his troops. this morning, he is kicking off a three-day, 12-city tour he bills as let's get california working again. after this morning's rally, brown will head to the central valley. republican candidate, meg whitman just left the central valley and southern california where a campaign stop turned into a clash with state workers. a california nurses association bus has been following whitman along her tour. the latest field poll which came out on thursday puts whitman ten points behind jerry brown.

one month ago, a survey of likely voters put them neck and neck at 41% each. this morning, the stanl is set for the biggest fake political rally in history. comedy central's faux political pundit, stephen colbert and jn n stewart are setting up for faux political rallies. they are styled along glenn beck's restoring honor in which he urged crowds to turn back to god and restore traditional values. >> something like americans in favor of return to sanity or something like that. >> yes, president obama just plugged the rally! you hear that, colbert. how does that taste? >> folks, folks, i'm not worried about this, because getting endorsed by president obama is the kiss of death.

closer to gilroy, san martine and even to watsonville. if you are headed south along 101 and closer to the coast, you are going to get scattered showers. what's falling over the hills is closer to mt. hamilton. not a lot of people affected by the light showers. they are light showers. we talked about delays at sfo for arriving flights. 57 minutes. they are still in place and will be there for a little while. only some 50s right now. 52, san francisco. about the same for livermore. not much change from the places close to the water all the way toward places in our warmest inland valleys. a lot of the cloud cover keeping the temperatures pretty uniform around the bay area. the cloud cover due to the storm. this is what's passing through right now. a very weak storm. given some snow to the sierra. 7500 feet. this is the next one that heads up into the pacific northwest. seatt seattle a lot of rain with this. for the north bay and santa cruz

outside the ballpark right now. grant, you think the giants are going to mess with texas or what? >> reporter: i don't know, kris. you guys were pretty mean to us when we were out there in san francisco. it is going to be a tough road ahead, for sure. you said it. we are hoping some home-cooking wakes these rangers bats up. that's not like our ranger team to be basically slumping it out there and not looking good at all. you know, many of you guys there are probably wondering about what's the whole deal with the antlers and the claw. we have video of some fans, a big deal here. we should tell you, this was not a fan-driven idea. this was a player-driven idea. the antlers supposedly signaled a speed play, like a deer being very fast and then a crawl, which would be a power-play. by the time you get a big hit, you do something very strong and great, they would throw the claw at you. between me and you, i can say it, this is in san francisco and we are not seeing this in texas.

i think that whole thing is a little silly. the rangers have grabbed on to it. they are loving it. the bands certainly hafans cert on to it as well. they do not think you guys are going to bring out the brooms. the players don't think that. the fans don't think that. clearly, if the rangers game three here at the ballpark here tonight is a must-win situation. the giants have a long history with world series and championships going all the way back to new york. the rangers don't. every game from here on out is the biggest game in franchise history. kris? >> i have to agree it is a little silly but you have to admire the spirit of the fans that they want to participate and be part of it all. >> reporter: absolutely. from what i hear, you can kind of appreciate it, because i know you are a texan at heart. >> i grew up in texas but i grew up on astroturf. if you grew up in houston, you can't be a fan of texas rangers.
