we want to get you started with rob and look at the monday morning forecast. >> we are off to a chilly start. the numbers towards lunchtime having a tough time hitting the low 60s. it will be jacket weather even though the rain moved on, but this morning it's the left over effects of all of yesterday's rain that could be slowing you down. >> standing water around one of those and a downed tree in napa and the soil might be an issue. at redwood road nearby, those are major through napa. wet roads continue and we have a new connector as well from richmond on to northbound 101 off of the bridge. that's new for this morning that came into effect friday. it will be different heading from the east bay to the north bay and down 101. an easy drive and a sheen on the roadways. slick conditions around the bay

and perhaps fog for the golden gate bridge. >> plans to regulate smoke detectors have people smoldering mad saying it's too invasives, but others say it could save lives. live in palo alto with what's so controversial about the plans. >> there two types of smoke detectors. relies on ionization, that is more common, but less reliable. the other is photo electric. more reliable, less common. it could be more common here in palo alto. a law would require new homeowners to replace the old ionization smoke detectors with the photo electric models. this is something they recommend they do because of the problem the models chose. that type uses the small piece of material for fire. they are not very good at

detecting moldering fires. they can be triggered by cooking and the fireplace. many times homeowners deactivate them out of frustration. they are less likely to trigger because of the beam of light. that detects up to an hour earlier. the city and the fire department is looking at this as a safety issue. if passed, the law would require homeowners to change out the alarms at the transfer of title during the purchase of a home. hotels, motels and rental homes would be required to do this after the start of the year. they have to do this with any smoke detector. if you are wondering, the difference in price between a photo electric and ionization. they are about $5 more. live here in palo alto, today in the bay. >> thank you very much, bob.

>> right now police in santa cruz are looking for a man who reportedly assaulted a tweern girl at ocean view park early saturday. she was watching the sunrise on a park bench when a man sat down next to her. look at the sketch of the man. the girl said she tried to leave after he asked if he would perform a sex act. he grabbed her after a short struggle and he was able to get away. the man is believed to be between 27 and 33 years old and about 5'9" and 150 pounds. health officials have a mess on their hands. 5400 gallons of rue sausage ends up in the pacific ocean in the san diego community of san marcos. waste spilled into a nearby creek that flows into the lagoon near interstate 5 that feeds into the ocean. the pill is capped, but warning

signs are up showing where the sewage flow is. beaches could be affected as far away as carlsbad and la costa. >> i want to get you updated on the oakland situation we have been telling you about. the gas leak there has been kapd. eight people have been evacuated as a result. we are not sure when they will be returning to their homes. we will have more in a live report. tar dale city leaders are trying to take control of the cow palace and trying to push legislation to allow the city take over some control of the venue. the state department of food and agriculture operates and the legislation comes after 16 people attending the concert had to be rushed to the hospital. if the legislation is passed, it heads to the senate that has the power to make it an ordinance. >> fremont solved a deadly

hit-and-run. the driver ran a man down about 6:30 on friday morning. an 83-year-old man suffered massive head injuries and later died. police are looking for a 1985 toyota avalon. >> remember the 10-inch dlak road crews discovered in a routine inspection of the bridge? the crack is fixed, but the whole job comes with a $1 million price tag. cal tran said they repaired it by sandwiching it between two new plates of steal. it two four days to do the job. bay area transportation official said bridge tolls will pay for the repairs. the toll report does not say why it costs so much. >> the city of san jose said they cannot pay about $110 million worth of construction for the terminal at the airport. they are looking at ways to raise that money.

the shortfall happened when the city tried to extend $450 million in credit. they agreed to about $340 million worth and some may increase their credit lines to the city. a fifth bank can no longer help because it's ending all business in the united states and that's where the shortfall comes in. the city council may ask for a credit extension from two other banks to buy more time while they negotiate a solution. >> whether it's golden gate park or many of the others, officials want to know what you think. they are carving out a budget and want to determine where the priors should be directed to. it's an opportunity to offer feedback on how to preserve and enhance the park. if you are asked in participating, head to nbcbayarea.com.

the ballot counting continues and we may find out who oakland's next mayor will be. chris sanchez is live with the count one called a reversal of fortune. pretty amazing. >> it is. imagine with me for a monday, you run for mayor and go to bed thinking you lost. you still think you lost and day sounds like you will be the next mayor. that's what happened to jeanne quan who has a comfortable lead over senator don perotta. for days she was in second place in the count. kwan got a boost because they were using the rank choice system and all of the second choice, most of the second choice listings on kaplan's

the country's largest fast food chains. it found that the industry 20 more than $4 billion on marketing and advertising last year. today's preschoolers see about 21% more fast food tv ads than in 2003. there more than 3,000 possible kid meal combination, but only 12 met the researchers nutrition criteria for preschoolers. most were high in salt and calories. teens 13 through 18 consume 800 to 1100 calories in one fast food meal. researchers say the number one worst meal was the dairy queen cheeseburger french fries, soft drink and chocolate dilly bar meal. indonesia on high alert after a voll canologist said it could erupt again at any time.
