good morning, everyone. it is friday, november 12th. let's start with rob and a wicked forecast for the weekend. >> it is looking outstanding, but it's cold outside. about half the area waking up to the 30s and obviously sunrise a couple hours away. 39 in livermore and 34 out towards fairfield. a light breeze this morning, a sign we have high pressure keeping us dry and giving us chilly temperatures to start off. the afternoon is outstanding. 68 around livermore and dublin. highs in the upper 60s as well as concord. highs in the upper 60s and for the weekend, we are talking 70s. the seven-day forecast is coming up. >> rob is at work and i'm at work. that's about it. >> it should be light. yesterday was veteran's day holiday officially, companies like ours are observing it

today. we are looking at westbound 24, a minor accident and a car went off of the roadway. a lot of activity has been down the embankment and about 20 feet of fencing went out. that's how far down the roadway this side of the road the car went. there may be crews affecting it and i will watch and let you know if the slow lane is affecting it. the caldecott and the maze approaching the toll plaza which is clear. we will tell you about an issue in six minutes. >> as a parent of two, kids are snack their way to a lifetime of health issues. christie smith is live with more. good morning. >> good morning and happy friday. the trend is certainly alarming, but you can understand it given people's busy schedules. it shows that more american kids

are skipping breakfast and lunch and opting for a quick snack instead. they are focussing on kids ables 8 to 17 years old and it's broken down by race t. shows that 42% of white and hispanic i cans often missed braft fast. that number is 59 percent per for african-american kids. breakfast is rarely if ever eaten by about 12% of white and hispanic kids and 18% of black kids. the problem with this, the snack versus a solid meal, previous studies found missing breakfast is tied to missing school and lower test scores in some cases. one recommendation is that it's an opportunity for parents and schools to offer nutrition snacks instead of high sugar ones. coming up later, we are here at a gym and we will talk about people's plans for their

children. live in fremont, today in the east bay. new this morning, east bay teens will tackle an adult issue. kids gather to talk about the sentencing of former bart police officer convicted of killing oscar grant. many of them not happy about the out come. johannis messerly was sentenced to prison last friday. this youth town hall is at 5:00 at the pro arts gallery in oakland. organizers plan to stage more protests over an officer that killed a popular east bay barber. yesterday a rally forced police to close down the fruit va le bart station again. they were protesting the shooting of derek jones by two oakland police officers. the rally started at bancroft

and seminary yesterday and ended at the fruit va le bart station. bart leaders decided to close for about an hour. >> they took him away from his 2-year-old daughter. she'll not ever know her father. >> the police chief said his department has toon sensitive to the community's needs. the family hired taurn john burris. >> an eaft bay woman is caught in a fight. nicky doil thought they should cover the damage to her mini cooper. a crow ball fell from the bay bridge and hit the car. her insurance company filed a claim, but caltrain blamed a construction company. they also deny responsibility. she feels luck to have lived through the whole thing and is angry about the response. >> i thought they would be relieved nobody was hurt and i

wasn't filing a lawsuit or anything like that. they have been uncooperative. >> the insurance agent told today in the east bay about the case. not the first time this company has had a claim denied by caltrans. the first was in january when a short sent a mechanical gate into moving traffic. a pole smashed into a car causing $10,000 worth of damage. the drivers can pursue legal action and that's exactly what they are going to do. the governor calling for a special session to tackle a $6 billion hole in the budget. the governor ended the longest stealimate in history. the spokesman said the special session will start december sixth after lawmakers are sworn in. >> deuce the dog reunited with his owner after a strange

adventure. two robberies took the yorkshire terrier from his 80-year-old owner the day before halloween. police arrested the men and one claimed he released the dog in a park, but a couple found him and sold him to another person and that person called police yesterday after recognizing the dog on tv. an embedded microchip confirmed his identity and he is back home. you see the graduate school of journalism will show off never before seen photos of the beatles. it's at the center of photography at uc berkeley. mike joins us. we were talking about it is going to be a quiet day. some companies you had thursday off and some huh to work thursday, but you have friday off. >> if schools had thursday off, many parents tried to take friday anyway. right now it's light.

4:37. 0 dark o' clock. we have three lanes into the east bay and passing treasure island over towards the approach to oakland. keep that in mind. it is unusual and scheduled to last until 6:30. they will likely pick that up earlier. we have southbound 880 and reports just in of a car that hit and killed a deer. that will affect the drive to the san mateo bridge. keep things moving and we will have a break going on. not a traffic break, but a break in the traffic westbound with the tail lights. folks moving over to the peninsula. an easy drive across the bridge. >> here's rob. i was promising the world's greatest forecast. yesterday was great too. >> the weather will be outstanding and we'll get through a week without any rain.

fairfield will get as high as 70. even the temperature at walnut creek will hit the 60s. it's looking like a holiday there. the ice skating rink opened for business. they gave hundreds of people a free night of skating. it's the sixth year they have been open at the corner of civic and broadway. the rink will be open until january. a nice thing for the folks in walnut creek. >> exactly. great. you can do your lutzes or triple frips. >> or a sow cow. >> we will take you out near walnut creek. the interstate is clear. the lanes are cleared on the freeway through lafayette around oak hill road. they may have to do fencing repair. so far sounds like they are not buying it until later.

aid. asian markets dropped on speculation that china may hike rates as well. europe is lower this morning. we will get more consumer sentiment. the dow dropped to trade at 11,283. nissan is recalling 586,000 frontier pick up tricks and x terra suvs at a risk it is steering shaft could corode and crack. about 85% of the vehicles made between 2001 and 2008 were sold here in the u.s. nissan is recalling 18,000 sentras because of a faulty battery connection that could cause the car to stall at low speeds. >> good luck to the buckeyes this weekend. >> thank you very much. >> hundreds of yahoo workers could be facing more layoffs.

rumors swirl over a possible yahoo merger and rumors of layoffs as well. they are considering cutting 20% of the workforce. "wall street journal" puts the figure at about 10%. either way yahoo is not denying that layoffs are planned. it laid off 700 workers in april of 2009 and that is one in a long string of layoffs. we will need extra cash over the holidays. sears is the number one employer looking to add seasonal workers. they have more than 12,000 postings for jobs. next is jcpenney's and macy's. other companies are u.p.s., fedex and the holiday jobs could keep giving. 40% of the companies at careerbuilder.com said they plan to make some of those holiday hires full time. black friday is a few weeks away and the secret sales are
