we will expect the change and the build upstarts there and 15 minutes still with a watch over the next 10 to get it cleared. the bay bridge shows a light volume and we are expecting the lights to be turned on closer to 6:30 or 6:45. >> quickly approaching 6:02. pg&e is trying to put people at ease bof a natural gas pipeline. the east palo alto portion of the pipe is not at risk. the segment near dumbarton does not need to be repaired or replaced. the pipeline showed up in the utilities list of the 100 highest risk segment. they did not meet with the leaders as it had with other leaders on the list. that's because the pipeline was listed as being in menlo park. it is scheduled to be assessed again next year. >> a band that made headlines

will go away. gavin newsom will veto the ban on most mcdonald's happy meals. supervisors passed an ordinance that put nutrition values on fast food meals that include toys. newsom plans to release a report on what the city does do to fight obesity today. it could be meaningless. it was an 8-3 vote and eight votes can override a veto. they exactly a challenge in court. >> a lot of times children make a bee line for home because it's time for a snack. kids are doing a lot of snacking these days. it could have an effect on their health later in life. today in the bay's christie smith has more on your kids's nutrition and what it should be. >> the best sopgz say healthy sit down meal, but more and more kids are eating on the fly with a snack as they run out the door. this can affect the way they develop and affect their

behavior and the way they perform in the classroom. this new study is by the american diet etic foundation and 42% of white and hispanic kids miss breakfast and that is 59% of african-american kids and they are finding a large number of kids are not active. 64% of families surveyed engaged in sedentary activities like television watching and video game playing three or more days a week. here's what one dad who works out every day told us on how his family tries to stay healthy. >> we had dinner and breakfast every day. we have a very healthy family, but kids are being ignored by families. >> why do you thinks that? >> families are so busy. mother and father working and out and just very busy. >> here's how this is affecting

the waistline of everyone here in california. 31% of california kids are occurred overweight or obese. 25% of adults in california are considered clinically obese. the study found that a number of kids said they would be more active and go outdoors more often if they felt safer in their neighborhood. live in fremont, today in the bay. >> you can lead by example. thank you. >> a nursing student who is in the country illegally will rally outside of barbara boxer's office. steve lee is now in an arizona detention facility since september after immigration agents raided his san francisco home. lee was born in peru and moved to san francisco years ago with his parents. a judge denied his family asylum and ordered him to leave the country, but and his family stayed. he was studying to be a nurse and his friends hope that

senator boxer and dianne feinstein will step in to stop the deportation. >> he is being taken from his home where his entire is and popping him in a strange country he knows nothing of by himself is unbelievable and breaks my heart. >> if it does go forward, lee would end up in peru and his parent who is face deportation would be sent to china. his mother will speak at a rally at noon. >> 6:06. two san jose plfrs fired after an alleged cover up will be back on patrol in a few weeks. the officers will be back on the job on december 5th after a month long arbitration process. the sergeant and officer let a woman off the hook even though paramedics believed she had been driving drunk. the former san jose chief rob davis fired the officers, but

the punishment was knocked down to an 11-month suspension without pay. >> a mom is fighting caltrans wanting them to pay for damage to her car. in her fight, it could affect you if your car is ever damaged. a crowbar fell from the upper deck of the bay bridge, slamming into a car while she was driving with her daughter. wedged into the grill of a mini cooper. cal transand the mcm construction company said they will not pay. >> i thought they would be relieved nobody was hurt and i wasn't filing any lawsuit or anything like that. they have been completely uncooperative. >> the construction company said they were not working on the bridge that night. caltrans will not say why they deny the claim, but they can pursue legal action. caltrans denied responsibility

for another problem in january. you might remember we had the story and an electrical short sent the mechanical gate at the tunnel into traffic. a steel pole sliced into an nbc news employee's car causing nearly $10,000 in damage and so far cal trans is not paying for that either. >> we have more about the man who literally stopped traffic on the bay bridge. chp closed the upper deck for more than two hours because of a standoff. the man is craig carlos valentino from antioch. he called 911 and said he was going to blow up the bay bridge. police did not find any explosives in his suv. he faces charges of brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats. new this morning, the obama d main station is considering a privacy czar. >> the department is working on a report that will be critical of how companies are protecting

or not protecting our privacy. we don't know the details of the report, but the "wall street journal" said the obama administration is considering announcing a new proposed law and even a privacy add in order to crack down on violations. the ftc is in charge of privacy, but the rules are weak and the ftc gets involved after the fact. new laws hit bay area companies hard, notably facebook and google that may have to reassess business practices and hire new supervisors and lawyers to stick to the laws. the companies honestly have no one to blame but themselves. facebook in the news for at least the appearance of privacy violations if not legal violations. google is in a huge legal battle over the mapping cars. this is a situation where the companies may have inadvertently

good morning. another live look at the shot from the south bay. you see the clear skies and the temperatures once it warms up will not be bad. the full forecast in a few. >> san francisco is a busy place getting in and out of the city. it takes time, patience, and if the board of supervisors gets its way, it will take money too. san francisco wants to impose zone charges on people who drive their cars into certain parts of the city. a proposal and the board will consider would charge a fee to drive in congested areas. here's a look at the areas. drivers would be charmed from 18th and laguna and that includes the financial district, mission, china and north beach among others. it's considering charging $3 to

the 3300 passengers spent days stuck at sea on a trip that was anything but a vacation. the fire caused the shut down of most power on the ship including the engines and left passengers without electricity, hot water and food. their reaction to the ordeal is a little mixed. >> i think the worst part is the food and the smells from the toilets and the rotting food. >> the crew was fabulous. what they had to go through is beyond words. >> carnival said all passengers are getting a free ride in the future. >> a fiscal emergency calling for a special session to tackle a hole in the budget plan. schwarzenegger signed the deal over a month ago, ending the longest stalemate in state history. the firefighter nor's move comes a day after the analyst office projected a $25 billion deficit for 20 months. the special session will start

december sixth when lawmakers worn in. >> gavin newsom may have to delay his inauguration. "the insider" blog said the mayor wants to make sure that the next board of supervisors are the ones who pick his successor. they can put the brakes on the selection as long as no one has been appointed. newsom has to be formally gone or resigns. he is scheduled to take the lieutenant governor's post on the 3rd and he can be innaugurated on january 4th. the bay area coast guard crew will spend months on the oil disaster in the gulf of mexico. it made a detour to help out the carnival cruise strip stranded

in the waters near baja, mexico. they conducted oil-skimming mission and direction operations in florida. the ship collected more than 137,000 gallons of oil in the gulf. russian leaders call for an investigation into how the spy ring in the u.s. got exposed. that ended operations in june when a russian intelligence officer told the u.s. about the spy and defected. 10 russian spies were sent back to russia. one source said the government has probably sent an assassin to the u.s. to find the defector. the cold war is a hit with video game buyers. call of duty is the best selling thing. at least if you measure it in 24 hours of sales, not spider man

thanks for joining us this morning. take a look at the sunrise. isn't it beautiful? >> it has the giant orange thing too. new video this morning, president obama landing a few hours ago in japan for the final stop of his 10-day visit to asia. he is getting mixed reviews on how successful the trip has been. kristin dahlgren is live in washington, d.c. with a look at how the president's policies are stack up in the global economy. >> hey there, brent. a lot of people saying the president left the summit empty-handed. he has been hoping to double u.s. exports in the next years, but he was unable to reach an agreement with south korea on exports. the agreement would have increased things like beef and autos from the u.s. to korea. the president said he hoped to get some type of deal done within the next couple of weeks or so. the g20 was unable to come to an

agreement about under valuing currency. the president called out saying china manipulates to make the exports appear more favorable and cheaper. others accused of a federal reserve of doing the same to the dollar. a lot of controversy and the president went to japan for a business meeting there and he heads back to the u.s. he has a busy week ahead with congress into session. he was asked about the bush tax cuts and extending them. there has been no agreement yet and he wasn't dealing with the issue while abroad, but he thinks extending the cuts is a bad idea and ex-10ing them to the middle class is the priority. we will turn to scott on more on how this is impacting the market. >> you mentioned the dollar and that has been a big problem. gold has been at near records depending on how you measure it. more of a record in the 80s, but
